Hey youtube fam: It's your girl, Lia back again with another video and today's video, as you can see from the title, we're gon na be getting into why I feel like you, should try crochet hair at least once., Give it a chance at least once in 2022.. Now I make this video pretty much every year. Every year, since probably 2019, I've made this video and always get some positive reception at the top of every year, because people start every year. Looking for new ideas. Looking for new things to try., Sometimes you know you got your sew-ins.. The micro links are new here and people are loving them.. You got your braids. The tried and true silk presses. Your wash and go's. Your twist outs., Your braid outs., But like sometimes I feel like crochet hair doesn't get the love that it requires.. So today, I'm gon na be telling you why and hopefully, by the end, I will have convinced you to at least give it a chance once. If it fails, give it a second chance.. I always say, give things second chances., But again with today's tips. I don't think you can go wrong in terms of trying crochet hair. Now, first things. First, I want to give this PSA at the top of this video. Something I recently have learned.. I feel like, even though I'm five and a half years deep of trying crochet hair, there are still things I learn each and every time.. I just had a best friend, go to a professional to get her hair installed for the very first time. She's been trying. Crochet hair, at least maybe six months less than I have. So she's, been in the game as long as I have. Occasionally trying crochet hair, but she for the first time, has gone to a stylist to get her hair done.. I'Ve never gone to a professional stylist to get my crochet hair done, but what she noticed when getting her hair done professionally was that splitting. Stylists tend to split crochet hair over and over and over again., Sometimes or most of the times more than I split my Hair. What i mean if you watch any of my installs, I show you., I tell you.. My videos are very clear in what I mean in splitting the hair, but depending on the hair, I tell you in every review video how many times I split it.. Maybe I don't., Maybe once or maybe almost twice, but I'm not splitting a hair into six pieces. Like one strand into six pieces. That'S not something I do., but I've realized some stylists do.. I don't know whether it is to save on hair or whether that's the best method for them to create a realistic hairline. Whatever the case may be, they do it., I don't, and so, when I review a hair, I've installed it and split it as many times as I say, I have in that video.. If your stylist splits the hair six times, it is no longer the hair that I tried.. Let me repeat: if your stylist splits the hair any more than I did, you cannot look at my Freetress Beach, curl video, my Outra Bahamas, Curl video, my Outre Dominican curl. My Mane Concept, Beach, video, you can't look at any of those videos and say hey. Well, it's not performing the same way. Lia'S is.. Why is it not? Lia is lying. Lia said it was going to perform this way and mine isn't.. If your stylist has done anything, that's different than what I've done in my install, we will not have the same results. Splitting changes, the overall look of the hair, sometimes and overall, the performance of a hair. Now Lia does not want beef with any stylist.. I'M not saying your stylist is doing it wrong., I'm just saying your stylist is installing it one way., I'm installing it another way. However, you can't evaluate the hair the same way. I installed it if you do a different, install method., So I just wanted to put that PSA out. Here. I've never made the disclaimer in any of my videos before because I didn't know style of split hair so often or so many times.. I was not aware of that, because I've never been to a professional, but now having learned that, I just want to put that little bug in the back of your head. If you ever get the urge to get on a video and comment. Oh, it's not performing the same, just make sure things are similiar at first.. Was it split? The same number of times. Uh was your nighttime routine.? If I use no products and you used a product just make sure we align on most of those things before and then you can get those Youtube, fingers ready to complain or to say you hated a hair, I loved or should say you loved a hair. I hated. So, let's get into the reasonings. First things: first, why you need to try crochet hair in 2022. Travel. Travel needs to be at least one of your main rationale for trying crochet hair.. Now the friend that I recently went to cabo with, if you caught my Cabo vlog., She is a travel only crochet hair, wearer., Meaning she typically only wears crochet hair. If she's going on a trip. She's gone on trips this year and she wear crochet hair. Me. I have a channel, so I do wear crochet hair a lot more frequently, but I can say if I didn't have a channel, crochet hair would be my number one travel style, period., The right crochet hair.. Now I have tons and tons and tons of videos on what I feel like are the right hair.. Now she chose a hair that I didn't love on land and she was like I'm your friend and I didn't even watch your content.. I didn't watch your video.. I watched a review video after the fact and then I was like uh oh.. I was in the store I had to make a rash decision.. Now the hair she wore she wore the lulutress beach curl hair.. I wasn't too fond of that hair um on land.. She took that hair out as soon as we got back from Cabo., But if you choose the right hair on your travels, I think it's a great option.. I think so many times we think box, braids., Okay, we're going on a trip. Let'S get our braids together.. Let'S get our box braids., Let's get our, maybe passion, twists.. Let me get our micros.: Let's get our braided styles together, because that has been the quintessential I'm going on vacation and that vacation involves water style., And I understand that but say you want to just go off on the limb and do a loose style.. What is your recourse? Are you going to do a sew in? Are you going to do the new, like I said, micro links? Are you going to do some tape ins, or are you going to do some clip-ins? Are you gon na do a wig? What is your other style? If you don't want a box, braid style.? What is your styling option? Don'T sleep on crochet braids.! That'S! The only reason I have this channel is because I was going on a trip and I needed a solution to go on said trip.. I knew sew-ins wasn't going to work, but I wasn't a braided person., I'm not a braid person.. The last time I tried braids and these are microbraids. I'M going to insert a picture. I was probably roughly 19 in this image. So roughly 12 13 years ago. Is the last time I tried a braided style like a true braid style in my head., Where I sat down on the chair and somebody took their time.. I don't remember how long it probably took. Probably six seven, eight hours. Micro braids was a time period. A time period when you would sit in a chair - and that was a great style, because I was in college - and I didn't know how to do my hair like that., What was I supposed to do Again at the end of the day, I believe that crochet Braids is an amazing amazing travel option., Not that you have to try it all the time, but if you want to try it at least once in this year and you're going on, I'm going to be near water, vacation. Look no further than crochet braids.. The next reason it's so natural., It's a natural, looking hairstyle. And what I mean is I recently my last hair that I've tried. I left some hair out., It's my first time ever leaving out hair in a style and I loved it., I loved it so much.. The hairline looks so so natural.. You could not tell me that wasn't my real hair., I was fooling even people in my real life who knew me who know me know me.. They were even like. I don't know.. I don't know if it's her hair, because it's staying consistently the same., That's the only thing that was tripping people up.. It was that the fact that it was staying, the same., The great thing about crochet, hair and I'll get into it in a minute. Is that you know you do get a level of consistency about it., Whereas maybe your natural hair would maybe you know, puff up., It would change. The curls might elongate., They might shrink up. Something might happen in your real hair.. Crochet, hair stays consistently the same, but other than that the blend was natural. The color was so natural of my hair. You get a natural looking style again. If you choose a natural looking hair, you choose a hair that doesn't look super natural. I don't know if my hair right now, i think it looks a level of naturalness. I think if you were up on me, maybe it's not as natural as that last hair, but again you get a natural look. I got a comment in that video. In my review video of the last year i tried, which was that roster free, tahiti, curl and somebody commented was like. I can't imagine why people are spending so much money on these sew-ins and all that when you can actually get crochet hair to look natural and that's what i've been telling people that has been the thing i've said on this channel so many times, people have this Image of crochet hair, just looking unnatural, looking like this image right now, they think of crochet hair. Looking like this, not cute, something that isn't not to say, you know her hair doesn't look cute. There are people who do not give a care whatsoever about the knots they think about crochet hair. In the same way, they do invisible, braids tree braids micro braids, where i'm not trying to fool people. I don't care about fooling people and that's totally fine, but i know a great deal of other people on the other side who are like. I do want to fool people. I do want a natural looking style, so don't be afraid, don't have this preconceived notion in your mind that crochet braids will not look natural. You get the right hair, you do the right combination and you install it correctly. You'Re going to have a bom, bom, bom natural, looking style now, the next reason you have to try. It is the versatility, the versatility of it, and i know that's strange coming from my hair, that is 97 of the time synthetic. I get this question a lot. Is it human hair? No, it's synthetic most of the time unless it's stated explicitly on the package and the hair happens to be a little bit more on the expensive side. It is nine times out of ten a synthetic hair, so you're like there is no variability in synthetic hair because by nature it's made in a factory, it's not hair. It'S trying to mirror hair. Therefore, it can never be as versatile as hair itself can be and you're right to a certain extent, but what i mean is in this year 2021 that i'm recording this right now i've gone from one look to another. Look to this. Look to that. Look to that look. I'Ve gone through so many different looks. I'Ve gone through so many different styles. It is an easy way to switch up. My look without having to you know i do love to dye my hair, so i have dyed my natural hair. You know several times throughout the years but say you do not want to, but you want to explore and play around with color. You can do that with crochet hair. So you want to explore and play around with length. You could do that with crochet hair and it's not as expensive as buying bundles, which are like 16 18 20 inches. And then, when you cut it up, you've cut it up. You'Ve cut up a purchase that probably cost you roughly 160 dollars pretty expensive to want to cut it up to want to dye it to want to color it to want to then curl it. I realize, with a lot of hair, whether it's brazilian bundles or cambodian bundles, they don't hold a curl as good, so you're curling the hair constantly daily daily daily you're flat ironing it daily daily daily you're doing whatever you need to do to manipulate it into a Style the time you spend in the mirror is very much so consuming, so you get versatility that i don't think you're allowed in other styles that you want to be a little bit more permanent. Of course, you can do wigs. You can take a wig off, throw it down, take a wig off, throw it down. I find that my crochet hair sometimes looks way more natural than my wig could ever just because you know i'm utilizing my own. You know hair for the parting space, whereas you're using kind of a lace and you're, hoping that the lace blends and people up on you, you know nine times out of ten, can see. Yeah, that's lace, but i'm like no. This is my. This is my scalp right here, so there's a more natural looking versatility that comes with this style that i think you need to be a part of number four. The reason you need to be a part of this is the protection of your own hair. Now i'm making this video as i'm about to go on a two-month sabbatical from crochet hair, meaning i'm about to get a silk press in because i just i just want to have a silk press. I want to enjoy silk press season, and winter is typically known as the press season we're coming upon winter as i'm filming this. So i have my two appointments because my stylist's books open you know a month before so i've already made my december and january appointments. Even though you know, i haven't even gone to my december appointment, but i'm going to engage and so press season for a couple of months and then i'm going to get back to crochet hair because again it's about the protection of my real hair, i'm about protecting It when i wear my hair in this look press, i'm wearing it out, i'm going to be, you know letting it breathe. You know letting it flow across my back and all of that and enjoying the time with the hair that i've protected using crochet hair. Again, some people don't care about their their own hair. They don't care about their natural hair. They'Re, like it's going to be covered 90 of the time anyways, i'm doing it for the protection of my own hair and a lot of people are so what it does is it allows you not to have to do that daily manipulation or that weekly manipulation. I know when i have my soap pressed in i'm gon na have to brush it. I'M gon na have to wrap it up at night, but the care for it is gon na be a lot different than the care that i'm used to on a day-to-day basis which, with the right hair, the maintenance can be very low. And that's a great thing about crochet hair: it can be very low to no maintenance, whereas with my silk press i'm gon na have to unwrap it kind of part. It just make sure i don't go out to some humidity, make sure that you know the rain. I'M protected from it with my umbrella. You won't really have to do a lot of that with crochet hair. I'Ve gone out plenty of times walked. My dog very briefly, ray started trickling down, and i was not scared at all. I wasn't like. I have to run back like i would have to run back into my house to get an umbrella if it were my silk press with this hair, it just protects itself, it's its own umbrella of protection. Again, if you choose the right hair and the fifth reason, crochet hair can be very affordable. Now, my best friend, like i mentioned, went to a stylist to get her hair done for the first time for our cabo trip. I too was going on that travel trip and i had made a hair appointment for the week before, but i unfortunately got the cancellation. I got them not even going to be able to do it. No reasoning, no rationale was going to be my first time going to a hair stylist as well, because it's my birthday we are going to mexico. I wanted to treat myself time to treat myself now. I shared in a recent video, my styles, the one i went to or was going to go to was charging. I believe it was 180, i'm inserting it right now me right now, as i'm recording this don't remember off the top of my head. Future me is inserting the prices, so, if i'm getting it wrong, as i'm talking, forgive me, but i believe she's just charging 180. for somebody who had never paid before i was gon na bite the bullet just to see how it was like what the experience was. Like, but that was kind of expensive in my mind and my friend went to the other stylist, i referred her to the other stylist who charged about 175, she charged about 175 but included a wash and all of that, the stylist i was going to go to With at the 180 price point, she needed you to come: pre wash pre blow dry, pre everything so just ready for the breakdown in the install. So two different price point: two different services and again i'm in charlotte north carolina. So the prices that i'm giving are relative to my a neighborhood and the stylist that i saw whose work i really liked. We both liked the work of the people that we respectively booked with, and so therefore that's who we chose, i mean there are probably people who charge 25 an hour and i would need to see their work to decide whether that is a good spend on the 25, but in the crochet hair braiding group, i'm a part of on facebook. I saw a thread that showed: how much do you charge to install crochets in what state do you live in, so sixty dollars for adults and forty dollars for kids? This person is in columbia, south carolina, i charge 60 to 70 depending on the hair. I live in south florida, 75 to 125 west palm beach, florida 50 to 75 in alabama 60 in georgia, 50 instead of 45 in north carolina 65 in kentucky. So i'm think the prices range a lot now again. Most of these stylists might not have a style seat like the way i found. The person that you know i found was, of course, through styleseed and instagram, and all of this some people are word of mouth. They might be in a small town, you know them, you found somebody who knows them and they charge these prices. So again, ours were pretty expensive, but depending on where you live, it's probably less than a hundred dollars way more affordable than any kind of sew-in. That you're probably going to get from most places, maybe same price roughly as a quick weave, but you get so much for the affordability of it. I mean the cost of the hair is very inexpensive and the gory thing about crochet hair, whereas i might not ever be able to do a sew in. I would never be able to do probably a sew in all myself. I don't know if there's a lot of people who could, conversely, with crochet braids i've, never paid a professional stylist to ever do my hair. The only time i've ever paid to get it done was my very first video. If you remember my freetress deep twist hair again starting this channel off - and i paid her, i believe roughly 30 bucks to install and again she is not a stylist. She just did it, there's always a family friend who might know how to braid down. It'S very easy to install crochet hair, it's one of probably the easiest things to do. So those are the reasons why you need to try crochet hair in 2022, from affordability to the maintenance level, to the ability to travel and have a style that can slay every photo that you take. This is why you need to have it in your life. Now again, i make this video every year and every year, people take it as a 365 crochet challenge, meaning i'm not going to not wear crochet every year. This is my new year's resolution. I am going to wear crochet hair every single day, every single minute. That is not come out, my mouth, that is not what i'm saying i myself will probably go roughly four months within this year without trying crochet braids, i'm meaning, whether it's a month here a month day or whatever the case may be, i'm not 365 trying crochet Here, because again, i'm doing this to protect something protecting an investment which is my actual hair that i sometimes want to see. Sometimes you want to see your investment. I think it's helpful for you guys to see too. So you don't just see hey constant crochet hair. Can lead to breakage it can lead to all these things. No, sometimes it can lead to positive results, and that's what i want to showcase on this channel. If you want to continue watching the journey on this channel, make sure you are subscribed to my channel. So you don't miss anything that i do over here, make sure you give this video a big thumbs up. So i know that you enjoy this type of content, make sure you're following me on instagram at lialavon89, so you can keep up with my shenanigans in real time and i'll see you in my next video. Thank you so much for watching bye,

Sherri Okere: Hey Lia, I love crochet braids because I don't have to do my natural hair for 6-7 weeks. For years I would wash, deep condition and style my hair every week which took 3-4 hours. I've been team crochet since September of 2021 and I'm loving the freedom . Taking care of natural hair is high maintenance. Don't get me wrong I love my long natural hair but it can be overwhelming at times. Thank you Lia, I'm team crochet braids for the next 2 years.

TK Lee: I just did my first crotchet because of you. Took me exactly an hour. I can’t wait to try all the kinds you’ve suggested

Tavi Libra: Hey Lia, Thanks for this video! I love crochet braids. Rocked them most of 2021 and plan to do the same in 2022. With regards to the personal experience with hair quality I think sometimes you can just get a bad batch. I bought 4 packs of the same crochet hair, same color, and one of the 3 packs had a noticeably different quality than the other packs. Luckily I didn't need all 4 packs, so sometimes you can just get an inferior pack of tried and true hair.

Jasmine Jazzie J: Lia is Absolutely the QUEEN OF CROCHET AND WE JUST LOVE HER CONTENT!!! ❤️❤️

JameeWoodard: Personally, I love crochet braids. I wear them about once a quarter. I can install them in about an hour and keep them in for a few weeks. Everyone should do them.

Gill Perry: ‍♀️I love the versatility of crochet. I do it myself, experiment with colour, am in complete control of the style and can change it at will without it costing a bomb ❤️ Definitely recommend it. Tons of tutorials and it's come a long way since I started in 2015

Ms Boro: You're preaching to the choir! I've worn only crochet braids (only done regular braids 3x) since 2016 and that's carrying on to this year! I may try a Silk press for the first time, if I can build up some confidence. Unfortunately, I've still not found any place to get Rastafri in the UK

mzstepz30: I’m new to the crochet game but can’t do it myself yet! I definitely got into it from running across your channel and fell in love with your whole channel!!!!!

Terlene Terry-Todd: I look forward to this yearly review! Your reviews are the reason I started using crotchet. Keep up the great reviews.✅

Michele Wilson: I have tried crochet/latch hook style....I wanted to say twice. The first was so bad wanted to forget it. After that, I watched more videos and did a twist style. Loved that one. And the third time went great too. Yes, this is definitely a style I will be protecting my hair with in 2022!

J Harris: Thanks for your review of crochet hair styles. I usually wear braids as protective styles. I'm definitely going to wear crochet hair this year because I want some curls and I am tired of trying to maintain my own hair. Also I like that you explained how versatile crochet hair styles are especially for wearing in the water.

stacy kennely: Hi Lia I am so glad you explained why hair styles may look different depending on the amount of times the hair is split , as well as the fullness. Your point explains the difference extremely well. By the way Bobbi Boss Gogo curl is one of my favorites. Stay safe

Toni Green: I always think your crochet looks great and blended well. I stopped wearing crochet because my hair is a bit more tightly coiled in the front and it's difficult to blend. So braids have been my go to for travel. But thanks for the vid.

Mek: I've been rocking crochets hair since 2017 . I started doing my own crochets back in 2020. I had been improving each time I do my own head...Saving my coin, the price they are charging is unbelievable...I'm from SC and you're correct that's how much they charge and they want the pre everything before touching your head. YouTube taught all kinda of ways to braid or rubber band methods to my head... I love me some crochets

amoryll36: ‍♀️ I agree with you with regards to performance being different if its installed differently. Freetress beach curl (that I tried only after YOUR review) is my fav crochet hair. For me its no maintenance hair BUT I have never used more than 3 packs split the hair 2-3 times and wear it shoulder length. This differs to you and your experience. That said I have tried hair that you didn't like, after your review, and I loved it too. I value your reviews either way Lia Hugs in '22 for Winnie

Lois Ann Welsh: So right!!!! I think us as black women should do crochet hair instead of damaging perms and using heat on our hair. Crochet styles have changed my life! I no longer spend so much time in the mirror fixing my hair and running late. And best part of crochet hair is the protection it provides your real hair!!! I don't think some women know how to wear crochet hair. Y'all need to watch Lia!

Inspirational-Li TV: I'm new to crochet and I am already thinking of my next color! I love how low maintenance it is and I never knew I could just wake up shake it out a little and go. I mean it is soooo nice! My neice did it for me cause I can't cornrow however I saw a vid in YT where the lady did random platts with a wig cap so I may have to try that. But yes to crochet I am new to your channel and already hooked.

Lakesha Harris: Hey Lia girl I agree with you girl. I took a looonng break from crochet hair because When taking it down I cut my hair in the back on accident so I’m so motivated to start back doing my crochet hair again Okay ✅ Thanks for sharing this video Lia

Top: I have been rocking crochet braids for 2 1/2 years Lia because of your videos. I am hooked! I wear them big and full and I always get compliments on them. I love the versatility of crochet braids and because I have done them as a protective style for a long period of time, my natural hair is growing like a weed. As long as crochet braids are available I don’t foresee me not wearing them anytime soon.

Lundi Soso: I love me some crochet braids thanks to your channel I started installing crochet about a year ago

shickellesonya88: Thank you for all of your knowledge ,education and love for chrochet styles.

Penelope Lane: I’ve been wanting to try crochet hair as a protective style for the LONGEST time but I’m really afraid of the takedown. How do you get them out without cutting your own hair, particularly when you’re rocking super coily type 4C hair underneath???

Dante Velasquez: Synthetic hair cannot be human hair absolutely (and it shouldn't be). But synthetic hair can be BETTER than and MORE VERSATILE than human hair in many many ways. In particular it does not respond to humidity levels. there are tried and true ways to keep the tangling at bay, and there are fibers that look so much like human hair that only people in the know can tell they are synthetic. Synthetic hair is cruelty free. It's also so much lighter than human hair so it will not weigh you're head down. And of course the best feature; cheap and affordable.

Mary J Flanagan: It's great that you didn't get that stylist. I hope you show your silk press process so that people could see the benefits of protection, reduction of damages and length retention. Every time I get my hair pressed and curled, people are very complimentary about the thickness, length and beauty of my hair. That's with my hair being about 5 inches long! Thanks for sharing and Happy Belated Birthday and New Year

kimberry2010: Whoa, $180? I play the same amount I paid for braids in the 1980-90s: $80 - $100!

ASAH: HAPPY NEW NEW. Good to see you! ❤️

iKandi: I want to try crochet hair. I love the versatility and access to the scalp but the nature of synthetic hair scares me!

Kathy Flemmings: I always get mine professionally done sometimes they split it once but no more I tell her what to do I pay her she’s not my boss.

Juju's Journey: Liiaaaa when is the review for this hair coming, I keep wanting to buy it but I know the truth tea you provide on these hairs

SUPERGIRL SEGAR: I pay 180.00 here in southern California!!!

Nellinblue: All good reasons!!!

izzy Izzy: Hey Lia. How are you this year? You're voice is so soothing so sometimes I let you play in the background plus I know you won't let out a curse word

Viv Veene: Awesome video.

Myrtle Smith: ❤️❤️

deedee H: True

rlp230: I never understood wearing crochet braids for travel. When I travel, I just wear my hair natural and in two braids. It's not pretty, but I do some hard core activity like jungle hikes where my hair is so funky and nasty after several hours and probably has bugs and crap in it. I have to wash and condition while traveling. The thought of doing that level of activity with synthetic hair attached makes my skin crawl. I guess it depends on your travel style

Frednette Claytor: I love crochet hair but it gets so matted and tangled. Just awful
