Hey everyone. Thank you so much for being here today. My name is denise, i'm also known as heywig sister on instagram and facebook. Today i am here to talk with you about the wig wearing journey. If you are new to wigs, i want you to start right here with this video, i'm going to cover a few things very briefly and put a lot of resources in the description of this video. This video is meant for my wig sisters, who be brand new and have never purchased a wig before or maybe you've purchased a few, but you're super confused regardless. This video is for you, if you're new, to wigs start here. Let'S talk about it all right, i am excited. I have been this. Video has been percolating in my mind for quite some time, and i am finally ready to film it. I am so excited that you're here. I hope that i will cover some things. That will be so helpful for you as you're starting off on this journey. First of all, i want to tell you that i am wearing a wig. This is jordan by envy in the color cinnamon raisin. As the filming of this video, i have not released this video for jordan, yet, although i did film it two days ago, so you can go look at my channel to see if it's there, but if it's not know that it will come out very shortly. This is a super super curly fun wig that i've styled with some clips, and i just love her. So i know for those of you who have been following me for a while who've chosen to watch this video. I know you're going to be curious. Okay - let's dig right into this, so that this is not too long of a video. I do not want to make this a duplicate of my new wig wearers series, but i want a video that is a easy one to share that will help someone start to wrap their head around the wig journey and have a few resources available to them right At their fingertips, i have so many videos on youtube. Hundreds of them. I have an entire new wig wear series that is eight episodes long. I have a tip tuesday series where i share lots of quick tips on wig wearing, so i'm going to link in the description of this video, some of the most important videos or maybe playlists - that i have on my channel that i think a new wig wear Is kind of a must for you, as you start out on the wig journey, and then that way all you have to do is bookmark this video and then you can work through those playlists and go through them as you have time. So why did i decide to make this video? What sparked this? All of a sudden i so i've been posting a little bit more on instagram the past month or so just trying to share little clips and and things with people, and i put a reel out there that was actually quite silly and had nothing to do with Wigs and it went viral, it has right now almost seven and a half million views. I mean it's insanity, i don't even it's a silly little 15. Second relay, don't really understand it, but what has happened because of that is. A lot of people have discovered me and all the wigs that i'm sharing and now suddenly i'm getting flooded with questions from wig sisters, future wig sisters, uh asking questions about wigs and it's honestly such a blessing to be able to share this with so many people. But it's becoming a real challenge: i'm actually not able to respond to everybody, i'm getting so many requests and and i'm losing requests, because i'm getting so many they're like falling to the bottom of the list before i can even read them. So if you are a long time, follower, wig sister supporter of mine and you've, sent me a message on social media that i have not responded to i'm so sorry, i'm trying to make sure i i'm not missing any, but i may have missed them. The viralness of that video has slowed down and i'm not seeing as many posts. So just resend your question to me. If you haven't gotten an answer so that i will see it - and i again, i never want to leave anyone hanging, but it just has suddenly become really really hard to keep up. But because of that, i had the idea of filming an intro video, because what i'm doing is i'm responding with links to the new wig, wearers series or answering. You know basic questions about wigs that i think i can do in a video and then that way, all i have to do is say: oh i've got something for you go watch this video, so i'm going to. I have some notes. I want to stay on topic, but i want to make sure that i'm covering everything and can you see my little puppy back there sleeping in the sunshine i know sometimes people ask me about my dogs and like show your dogs. Well, there's one right. There he's my old man um anyway, so let's talk about this so first of all uh i want to mention that wig wearing can be really challenging and i think it's super important that you set your expectations and understand that you may see some of us wig Wares who are very public and share our journey as reviewers and others who share a lot of pictures, and we make it look so effortless and easy. That'S really not how it is it's really challenging in the beginning for most of us, including those of us who've kind of figured it out now and are sharing it, and so you may see me wear wigs and think, oh that looks beautiful. It looks completely natural. I'M gon na buy that and then you buy it and it doesn't look anything like that on. You there's a variety of reasons for that and i try to cover this regularly on my channel here, but i would say one of the biggest tips i can give. You is don't just jump in and purchase the first cute wig that you see. I really really encourage you to spend some time educating yourself about wigs. My new wig wears series goes super in depth with that and i have eight videos long videos. Most of them are more than 30 minutes, but they're so worth your time, because you will finish that series so much more knowledgeable about wigs and i think it will help prevent some bad purchases on your part. So that's the first link that i'm going to include below, and i really really really encourage you to start watching those videos and i tried to go in order of how a person might attack the wig journey, how they might approach the wig journey first by just Even describing wigs all the different kinds of wigs, the the major kinds of wigs, what the types of fibers are, what the types of caps are, what is permatease so much to learn before you start buying wigs because you um it's really easy to go overboard on Purchasing and wind up with a lot of wigs that you won't wear. So i encourage you watch that series um. I think wigs are great for everyone, whether or not you have hair loss and i'm actually seeing more and more people come to wigs. Now because covid has created a situation where number one people couldn't go and get their hair done and colored, and so a lot of people just had to deal with their hair and discovered wigs because they couldn't deal with their hair. I'Ve seen a lot of people with what is hopefully temporary hair loss due to covid they've lost their hair, and i'm you know once you get through the whole thing. I'M really hopeful it'll come back, but now they're taking a look at wigs thinking. Okay, i need to do something about this. I think wigs are great for everybody. I personally have hair loss. I'Ve had hair loss for 20 years. I have something called androgenic alopecia, which is essentially female pattern, baldness and um, and so i came at this from a very much a need perspective. But there are a lot of you and i know i have them watching, because some of you guys comment that i just wear wigs for fun and i love that. I think it is awesome. The more people who discover wigs and their benefits um number one, because it will make wigs more accessible to everyone and more mainstream. I think they'll be less shame for those of us who need wigs if a lot of people are wearing them, but number two. I think wigs are a way for you to find more time in your day, and i think that is so awesome. You know we are so busy and we have so much going on and if you're a wife and a mom and an employee - and maybe you volunteer and you've, just your your plate is so full and the last thing you need is to spend an hour in The morning doing your hair, some of us wash and go baby and that's how we roll, but some people have to spend a lot of time on their hair to get it under control or to make it look decent, and so wigs are a way to help. You with that, because plop it on and you're ready to go with a synthetic wig, which is what i love about them and why synthetics are my preference. But i just wanted to say whether you're uh a long hauler, meaning you're in it forever. And you don't have another option but to wear wigs or whether you're in it for convenience and you plan to switch it out and sometimes you'll, wear a wig and sometimes you'll. Do your own bio hair. Wherever you fall, you are welcome in this community, and i am so grateful that we have this option. Wigs have become really incredible and they just get better all the time. I i do want to talk briefly about why this is so challenging. Um, there's a lot of reasons why the wig journey is challenging. I think one of the main reasons is it's foreign. When we first come to it, it's not something we have experience with and i think just about anything can be challenging in the beginning. You start a new workout program, it's challenging, you decide you're, going to start doing your makeup differently or you want to. You know really tackle that those fun eye makeup looks that you see all these influencers doing and you just can't figure it out. I mean, i think everything is challenging in the beginning, but with wigs, often there's an emotional component that goes along with it that other things don't always have, and so that is one of the other reasons why i think wigs are quite challenging. Is that emotional component, especially if you're suffering from hair loss or you have something else going on in your life that is causing you to want to explore this as an option for you? There are so many types of wigs. That'S another reason why it's so challenging and not everything will work for everyone. I can wear a lot, a variety of styles and colors. I can do that number one, because my coloring is fairly neutral, and so i do look good in a lot of colors and that isn't true for everyone, but also because i've embraced this full on i've just decided. I am going to have fun with wigs and i am going to force myself to get comfortable with styles so that i can have fun and have flexibility and part of it. Now is my calling and my mission to provide this kind of stuff for you guys and in order to do that, i really have to be comfortable with wigs, but the style i've on today is a great example of one that i could never have worn in The beginning of my wig journey there was just absolutely no chance even now. This style is one that i would wear when i'm in a certain mood, but it isn't maybe an everyday that i'm comfortable in incidentally, as a side note off topic. This is my sister and brother's hair. This curl is their hair. I grew up with family members whose hair was super thick and super curly. I had super thin super fine and stick straight hair. So in some ways i like watched people with hair. Like this all my life, so that helps me to be comfortable just not necessarily on me, but that was a segue um. Another um reason why this journey can be so hard is uh. The variation in color color is super difficult. If you can get yourself through the hurdle of um kind of how a wig looks on you and do you like permatease, do you like volume? Don'T you, then you have to tackle color and figure out what colors will work for you and just as soon as you think, you've got it figured out. You order a wig that you think is going to be in that color scheme and it looks totally different. So i do talk about color in my wigs. I have a few videos that are specifically about color and why that is so difficult, so um. I didn't put that in my notes, as something to link and of course i didn't bring a pen i'll try to link that in the bottom as well. But you know, as you start exploring my videos you'll start to see some of these things um. Another reason: why is good wigs aren't typically cheap. You can find inexpensive, good, wigs, don't get me wrong and by inexpensive i mean you know fifty dollars to fifty to one hundred dollars. I think less than 50. It'S very dicey. I do know some people who've purchased cheaper than 50 wigs amazon, wigs and they've worked for them. I think that is lucky. I really do. I don't think there's a lot in that price range. That is good for the everyday wig wear. I think, if you're going to wear wigs for fun and fashion and not every day, and you don't care if people know that you're wearing wigs and you're comfortable playing with them you're going to have more options available to you, you can go with the cheaper wigs Because you're not going to be as hard on them and you're going to be comfortable modifying them, but for those of us who um kind of were thrown in this against our will with hair loss. I do think that your your best bet are the more expensive higher quality, wigs that are going to be more ready to wear for you, at least in the beginning, and what makes that hard is that increases the stakes? The stakes are high. If you're going to spend 200 to 400 on a wig, you don't want it to be a mistake. You know even people who have some money to play with don't want to throw that kind of money away. So there are a bit of a high stakes game here when it comes to wigs, which makes the journey a little bit more difficult, um and then because i just mentioned price. Let me just kind of dig into price just a little bit if you're new, and you found me on social media and you hadn't really ever considered wigs and now you're thinking about it. If you've done any research, you know that some wigs can be very expensive and i've gotten a lot of comments from people with sticker shock. Who'Ve seen my videos have loved some of the wigs. I was wearing that i i'm gon na try that and then they go to a website and look at the wig and they're like what that was 350. I could never spend that on a wig um number one there's always sales on wigs at these websites. So i encourage everyone to be good. Smart shoppers subscribe to newsletters of the email news, the email list that retailers put out there, because you will often be told about sales before they're made public or given codes for subscribers that aren't available to the general public. I also encourage you to watch the secondary market. I have a whole post on trustworthy retailers and i talk about the secondary market in there on my website, which i will link below and things like, ebay, poshmark, mercari, there's lots of facebook groups where people can resell their wigs. You can get some amazing deals that way and if you're good about asking for pictures and asking questions and you use payment options that are that will protect you like paypal, goods and services, the risk isn't as high as you might think. I have purchased most of my wigs either on the secondary market or from a clearance. This wig i purchased on clearance. It was more than 50 off and there was a coupon available at the time. I got it so i am a very, very frugal shopper when it comes to wigs so because of what i do, i kind of have to be because i like to bring a variety of styles out there. But suffice it to say there are ways to do this on a budget. If you are smart about it, and some of you are so good at that shopping, thrift stores, shopping sales, stacking coupons, just approach wigs. Similarly - and you will find it may take time and diligence and patience, but you can do this on more of a budget if you do it that way. I just really want to mention it, though, because um just on first blush you're going to think okay right. Writing this off, i can't afford to wear wigs. I think you can, if you really want to - and you want to spend the time just like anything else, um and then the kind of the final thing i want to talk about is how to approach all of this. You know it seems very overwhelming and for some people too overwhelming, like you just can't even you're frozen, you don't even know where to begin so well, you're here and i'm so glad you're here, and i think this is a great beginning. I think starting to watch videos youtube is such a good resource for so many things. It is kind of the first thing i go to. If i'm looking for information on something i may google it, but i often go to youtube and see if somebody's made a video on it, because i am much better like this, i learn better. I retain information better and so youtube is going to be. Your friend you'll spend a lot of time if you're, not careful, but it really will help you. I try very much on this channel to do a lot of education and teaching. I do do a lot of reviews, but i try very hard to balance those with information and knowledge, because i think empowering you, as my wake sister, is the best way i can support you and the best gift. I can give you they take a lot of time and planning, and so i don't get to do it as often as i'd like, but that is something look for those tutorials look for those teaching videos and i have a ton of them on my channel. So so definitely spend some time there um look through some of my playlists so that you can start to look at some of those and you will find wig wearing and the journey will become so much easier as you get more comfortable. So what is next? Well, first of all, there are people out there who will um, who will help you for a fee. So there are some wig consultants out there who will take some of this off of your plate and help you learn. I am toying with an idea of adding a consultancy option available because, as my channel grows as my following on instagram grows, i just really can't help everybody there's just no way. I remember seeing taz who's a big reviewer and somebody i admire very much talk about that once on her video and i'm starting to experience it, and while i always want to be available to my wig sisters for help, i can do a lot more if paid To do it quite frankly, because i can prioritize it, and i know there are a few people out there doing this, where, if you pay them, they will spend hours with you. They will do video consults with you. They will do research for you and come back, and i've actually done this for a few week. Sisters now as test runs so that i could get feedback on how well it worked, and so i'm developing a lot of resources that maybe a new wig wearer wouldn't have - and i know a lot about wigs. And so when you come, and you say i'm looking for this kind of style, you may have to spend 20 hours just watching videos and trying to figure it out. I could bring you something with just a couple of hours of work, compiling it on my own. So there are others that do that as well. So if you are willing to pay for services, we pay for services all the time. If this is a service that you would find valuable, you can certainly pay people to do that. Otherwise, just invest the time, because there, the information is out there, it's just sometimes difficult to find it sometimes difficult to spend the time on it, but i just thought i would do this. This is a great place for you, if you're new, to wigs, i'm so glad that you're here and that you watch this. If you have questions, please let me know you can reach me through instagram, hey wig, sister, facebook denise. Well, i do have a hey awake. Sister on facebook, as well um, i have a website heyowigsister.com. I have an email address: hey wig, sister gmail.com, just please be patient. If i get a lot of messages at any given time, it may be really hard for me to get through them all. I i do work part time. I have a family uh, you know, i've got this, isn't all i do and i don't right now make any money doing this. This is just a passion project for me, but welcome to the wig sisterhood. It is awesome. It really is, i'm so glad grateful for it, and the women are some of the best. So if you start to get to know some of your wig sisters, i know you'll be blessed like. I have been all right guys thanks for watching. Let me know if you have any questions, if there's any videos that i need to make, that would be helpful for you. Let me know, and i'll put it on the list. Otherwise i love you guys i'll talk to you soon.

J Newman: I can remember this special lady (you Denise) sitting in her car doing videos from work. She was my inspiration and still is. Denise, this year is your year sharing the journey about hair loss and wigs. I’m so proud, grateful, and proud of you. And, hopefully it’s going to be year you touch lives beyond wigs. Big hugs from a sister in Christ and learning from your empowerment. Still on my hunt. Yep, after years!! Thank you for your caring spirt!

OKslots of_fun: I had covid in July and my hair started falling out in Oct. I had been watching your videos and other on wigs before I even had hair loss and wanted to try wigs. The hair loss just gave me an excuse to jump in! Thank you for your videos! They have been very informative, helpful and entertaining,

Renee Whitson: You rock Denise.. My mum's name is Denise so I feel somewhat of a connection to you. I have bought a few wigs over the last few years however still feel that I am starting from scratch. I am looking at some many Youtube videos in the hope of getting more information however find me still ending up at yours. I just wish I didn't have to put these comments out on the 'open market" so to speak. i look forward to everything you have to say. "GO YOU"

Front Porch Wig Chat: There's my beautiful friend, helping other wig sisters as always! That Jordan is so YOU! This is very definitely an emotional journey. We have parallel stories and timelines in our wig journey, our hair loss stories, so we know all too well! Love ya, Cyn

megan ryan: Hi Denise I’m new to your channel! I so appreciate your explanations and the detailed points you make in your videos. Also that you review so many brunette shades!! YAY! I wish I had found you when I first started wearing wigs 3 yrs ago! Still and all I still find your videos very helpful

Tina Steph: Such a great video! I watched all your videos when i first started thinking about wigs and you are my hero and inspiration! Im comfortable in wigs now and thats thanks to you in a large part!! Thanks so much!

Shelly F: Another great video! Thank you for continuing to help all our wig sisters. Hugs and blessings, Shelly

sapat: Don't stress out. We all love you. I don't even have instagram, and haven't been to FB in a year. So this YouTube channel is the only way I watch you. I know you're busy and you get to what you get to when you can. You're wonder woman AFAIC. Big hugz.

Who piddled on your post toasties: Great video Denise. I'm basically new to wig wearing. I wore wigs about 4 years ago when I lost most of my hair due to medication. I've stopped that med and some of my hair has come back however it's very very thin. A 3 year old has a better ponytail. Before I wore beauty supply wigs and didn't do much research. This time I'm in for the long haul with plenty of research and shopping better quality at reduced prices. Coming to grips with hair loss has been quite a journey. I am very conscientious when in public, thinking everyone is staring at me and knowing I'm wearing a wig. So far I've been wearing Finn, Storyville, McKenzie, Breezy Wavez, Laura and Skyler. I'm waiting for Orchid in red to be available from backorder. I do so appreciate all your videos, they are informative and helpful.

Clara: Thanks once again Denise your invaluable

Cheryl J: That’s amazing Denise! Your popularity on Instagram. Good for you. I will find you there.

forty2alz22: Please send me the link to your million view funny video please.. .. Love that wig you are wearing.. I love that look.. my hair is straight and I wanted curls as a child till now, perms were nit the same as these beautiful curly wigs of today. I appreciate your videos ..
