The secret to choosing the right wig is knowing what materials you’re looking for and how to find the right wig size.

Buying a wig can seem a little intimidating. But it’s not really that difficult to find a wig that will fit properly and look natural. The secret to choosing the right wig is knowing what materials you’re looking for and how to find the right wig size. Here are some tips from to help you find exactly the right wig for you:

Know what you’re looking for

Wigs are not all the same. Wigs are primarily made from two different types of materials: natural hair or synthetic hair. Human hair wigs are not necessarily better than synthetic hair wigs, although synthetic hair wigs are often a little cheaper than natural hair wigs, so if cost is a factor you might want to consider a synthetic hair wig.

Type of hair

The biggest difference between a natural hair wig and a synthetic hair wig comes down to styling. A natural hair wig can be styled just like any other hair. You can use a blow-dryer on it, straighten it, and do anything that you can do to natural hair. So if you envisage yourself often styling your wig in a variety of ways, a natural hair wig is your best choice. Synthetic hair is a bit more difficult to style and doesn’t hold a style as well as natural hair. If you don’t want to change your style often, though, a regular synthetic wig is still a great option for you.

Wig Caps

Once you have chosen a type of hair that suits you best, it’s time to choose a wig cap. With a classic wig cap, the hair is sewn into the cap in rows, so when you’re styling the hair it won’t fall exactly like natural hair, even if it’s a natural hair wig. If you really want a natural looking wig you should choose a monofilament cap. On a monofilament cap each piece of hair is placed individually into the cap. This way, the hair flows from the cap the same way that hair grows from the scalp. A monofilament cap will create a wig that looks totally natural and can be styled in many different ways. Monofilament caps are also usually made from fine mesh, which can be cooler than other types of caps.

Size

The last piece of the puzzle when it comes to choosing a wig is to get the right size. Most of the time using a tape measure to measure the circumference of your head is all you need to get the correct size. But if you want to be sure that the wig will fit securely, you can also measure front to back and look for a wig that has both of those measurements.
