How to Attach and Secure Your Wig

Wigs are one of the best protective styles. With so many variations of wigs, there are a few different ways to attach the wig to your hair without fear that it will slide back or fall off. Check out the different ways below.

Closure-Top Wig

If you are wearing a closure-top wig, it is important to have a flat base, especially depending on wear you position your part. If you have a middle-part, then we recommend parting your hair down the middle and braid your hair going towards your ears. The back can be straight back. Once your braids are done, take a stocking cap and place that on your hair behind your hairline. Most closure-top wigs come with combs and an adjustable strap. Place your wig on and position the part where it meets your natural part. Once your wig is in its proper position, take the wig combs and slide it into your braids. Using the adjustable strap in the back, tighten so that it fits comfortably, but enough that it's snug.

If you do not want to wear the combs, we recommend using a wig-grip. There are a few different styles on the market. A new wig grip called Wig Fix, is completely silicone which helps with reducing friction and stress on your hair. The purpose of a wig grip is that it allows your wig cap and wig to sit comfortably without it moving. Using the combs are unnecessary when you are wearing a wig grip.

Lace-Front Wig

Melt the lace! This method can be used for both a closure-top and lace front wig. Melting the lace is when the lace in the front blends flawlessly with your scalp and hairline. A way to achieve this is to use a stocking cap. It’s important to use a stocking cap that has a similar complexion to your scalp. You can apply some of your foundation on the stocking cap (the hairline in the front).

Using the Got2B Freeze Blast, spray along your hairline. Take your blow-dryer on the cool setting and dry the spray. Apply another layer of spray and repeat the drying process. Once it’s completely dry, cut the excess lace.

Take your wig and match it to the wig cap hairline. Use the Got2B gel this time along your hairline. Take your blow dryer and allow for it to become tacky. Lay the edge of your wig hairline onto the gel and press down with the end of your fine-tooth comb. Use your blow-dryer again to allow for it to dry. Style as normal.

If the steps above are way too involved, you can use a wig grip for your lace front wig too. Since there is lace from ear-to-ear, you will have to use an adhesive or gel to melt the lace on your sideburns. Another option is to sew wig combs on the flaps to help secure it down. Depending on how you style your wig, the flaps may not be visible at all.

Sew-it Down

Some women do not like to remove their wig at night and opt for it to be traditionally sewn-down along the perimeter of their hair-line. We highly recommend having a salon professional do this step since it is more of a permanent style. A closure-top wig is probably more ideal for the sew-down method. It is similar to wearing a traditional sew-in with a closure.

A way to make your wig look realistic no matter what technique you use to install it is to have it styled by your stylist. Getting a great color and cut will give your wig tons of volume. Depending on the texture of the wig that you purchase, your stylist will be able to transform it into a look that you will love. The great thing is that since its a wig, it’s a style that will last. We recommend to our clients to have a few different wigs so that the can change up their look each season.
