Summer-Hair-Trends

While lockdown restrictions are beginning to ease around the world, the possibility of leaving our house is (finally) on the horizon. And when we do, we want to look and feel our best. However, with salons closed for the last three months and reopenings subject to approval, our hair is overgrown, to say the least. This is where these low maintenance – yet seriously cute – hair trends come in to save the day. They’re easy to achieve, effortlessly chic, and will disguise any split ends or overgrown roots. Not ready to leave the house just yet? They’re also perfect for Zoom dates.

1. Braided Top Knots

If your braids are in need of a reset, style them in a high top knot. It instantly snatches the face and looks great when paired with intricate baby hairs. Whether you’re slaying twists or microbraids, this hairstyle looks great on everyone. We love how Laura Harrier has used a couple of braids to wrap around her top knot and conceal the hair tie.

If you’re in need of some hairstyling inspo, follow @freshlengths. From braided updos to perfectly coiffed afros, her hairstyling skills are next level. She also provides tutorials and tips on how to achieve her coveted looks including these stunning twists.

2. Flat Iron Waves

Flat iron waves are a great styling option if your hair is in desperate need of a trim or your DIY cut was a little uneven. The texture and mismatched length help disguise split ends while leaving you with a sexy casual look. To learn how to achieve flat-iron waves, check out celebrity hairstylist Justine Marjan’s tutorial above.

Desi is the queen of flat iron waves! Take note, long hair beauties: this style works particularly well with long tresses.

3. Disco Curls

If you’re looking for a hairstyle to disguise grown-out roots, embrace your curls and rock the 80s disco look. It’s fun, gorgeous, and hides split ends – what’s not to love? Check out Jasmine Sanders’ 1-min tutorial for diffusing your hair and defining your natural curls.

4. Bobble Braids

It’s safe to say, it’s been a while since we’ve rocked bobble braids but this retro style is majorly trending RN. Plus, it’s super easy to recreate at home and you can customize the look depending on your vibe. If you want to add a grown-up feel to the look, opt for silk accessories.

Accent your bobble braids with bedazzled baby hairs for a cute final look.

5. Braided Tendrils

As soon as we saw Gigi on the cover of Vogue rocking braided tendrils, we knew they’d be a hit for summer. Although don’t reserve this style for the beach; as Margot Robbie proves, it’s a versatile style that can be worn into the night.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with the thickness of the braid or the starting point. In fact, you can even style multiple braids on either side, like Margot’s double-braided look. Opt for clear micro elastics for a more laid-back vibe.

6. Bandanas

Having a bad hair day? Throw on a bandana and you’ll instantly transform the look. Always opt for silk bandanas instead of cotton, as cotton absorbs moisture from the hair and increases the likelihood of frizz.

7. Undone Buns

If you’re working with second or even third-day hair (in quarantine, whose judging?!?) grab some dry shampoo and work an undone bun. It’s actually easier to achieve the look with slightly greasy hair as the hair holds more easily. While this style may look effortless, there are some styling tips you need to know. Check out these 3 easy steps to mastering the perfect topknot.

The undone bun look also looks gorgeous with braids and twists – be sure to keep braids out at the front and have some ends sticking out to complete the messy-chic vibe.

And, if your hair has passed the point of no return, wack on THE hat of 2020, AKA the bucket hat.
