Products Used In Video:

Water

Extra virgin olive oil (supermarket)

Shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie (target)

*Note* : instead of using the curl enhancing smoothie, you can use a leave-in conditioner, any hair moisturizer, hair butter or hair serum available to you.

WATER IS KEY! First apply water and then use something that will lock in that moisture. There are tons of products on the market. Don't be afraid to try them to find what works for your hair. Don't focus on "brands".

My moisturizing equation is:

Water + Creamy Product + Oil

*Note* (the creamy product can also be a leave-in conditioner)

Hey everyone is Carrie, so let me explain why I have twisted my hair right now, I'm not doing a hairstyle. I was in the midst of moisturizing, my hair, and I figured why not you know come on camera and actually show you how I moisturize my hair, because I get questions all the time about. You know what products to use and things like that, I'm never going to tell you to use a specific product um a specific brand. I'M never going to tell you to do that now. What'S important while moisturizing your hair is to get things that work for you. Well, my hair feels dry and I need to moisturize it. Let'S say I have. I had it in a braid out and it's feeling a little. You know a little too dry. What I do is I get my spray bottle. This is filled with pure water. Get my spray bottle spritzes. I always do everything in sections alright, so I do four major sections and then I divide those four sections into smaller sections and go so I always do you know. Do my hair in sections I feel, like I get more product on my hair that way and it's just easier to work with so spray the water on my hair and you don't have to drench it or saturate it with water until it's like soaking wet, but Just enough that you know your ends, make sure you focus on your ends, because it's really important the oldest part of your hair, and you just want to you know, focus on it to keep it nice and healthy. So I just spritz the water on my hair. Just enough to hydrate it and you can use water leave-in conditioner in an oil to moisturize your hair and that's it you'll, be fine. You don't need to use a specific brand for your hair to thrive. Alright, that's basically what I'm trying to get at, but you do need water um try to get also an oil of choice, whether that be coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, jojoba oil, argan oil, whatever oil you like um, you know try to get that use that, On your hair, so I sprayed the water and I just applied the shea moisture color enhancing smoothie and all I'm gon na do now is just apply the oil, the extra virgin olive oil just to seal that in - and this is great for shine. Also, those of you who are always asking me how to get the hair shiny, like I don't really do much for that. I just put the oil on my hair and it's good so right now, I'm going to twist my hair up at nighttime. I do suggest that you twist your hair or braid it up or you know, put it in a bun or something don't just like leave it loose and then tie it down with a satin scarf um. That also helps your edges lay flatter than it would. If you didn't have anything on it and twisting your hair up at nighttime, it just makes it makes ah call me and hair a lot easier. Styling your hair, a lot easier the next day. This is all I do to moisturize my hair. Nothing special, really simple! A lot of people make their own hair mixtures like they'll, make shea butter with different oils that they like, and you know, they'll apply that to their hair, so they'll spray, the water on their hair and then um maybe apply a leave-in conditioner and then the Shea. The shea butter with the oil mixture that they made so you guys, can try that too there's tons of videos on different hair mixtures. But this all you need to do, and you have to remember that your hair is not going to feel the way it did. When it was relaxed, okay, there's your hair is kinky. Afro textured, like it's gon na, feel different from straight smooth hair. Alright, there's gon na be some texture to it. So also keep that in mind once you do that your hair is fine um, it's just doing it. If you don't want to do it daily, then do it every other day. If your hair, if you're keeping your hair and twist throughout the week, then I do suggest spritzing your hair with water, and you know taking some oil on your hands and just like smoothing it make sure making sure that you're getting the ends. Also cuz again ends are really important, so just move that oil, through after you spray after you've, switched your hair with water. Alright, so that's about it! I'M just going to tie my hair down um with a satin scarf and go to bed speak to you guys later bye,

Laura Fry: I'm not black, but I must say, your videos are inspiring!

SunKissedLioness: Thanks girl, love your techniques--very simple with beautiful results!

empress395: You natural ladies on You Tube are so inspirational. Im 13 weeks into my transition and at times I get frustrated and feel like relaxing again but seeing videos like this really help me to carry on transitioning. Your hair is beautiful BTW!

Tamika Long: Hey Keri! I use the same method...omg! I wear twist all the time since I have school and I am always busy so I do moisturize my twist with water and olive oil and it works perfectly. Great video!

mimi4sure: Thank you so much for this is very simple technique that is all I was looking for! There are so many videos on how to maintain moisture I was looking for something quick and easy and simple and you are the pick for me! Thank you so much can't wait to try!

Lili: I mean, your hair has just come such a long way from your big chop to the present. Its healthy, thick, bouncy, and just a delight to look at. Thanks so much for sharing your tips and journey with us.

sashana wint: your videos have inspired me soooo much to start my natural hair journey. my last relaxer was December 31st 2011 and i'll be doing my big chop on the same day this year. thanks for the inspiration x

Mary Dean: thank you for posting this vid. you have inspired me to go from gluing and sewing in weaves for 6 years to a big chop of my unhealthy natural hair. im going to wear my hair like your 5 natural twist styles. i hope the moisturizing products work well for me!

kieare: I love how your videos are always straight to the point, you don't start to blabber off on other topics lol. They are really informative and very easy to follow.

moonsmoothie9: I've been doing this for the past couple of months and I have seen more growth in just 2 months than I have in the past 10!!! And it's so simple. Moisturize with water and depending on how I feel....

Angelica Farmer: I love your natural hair videos! You are so detailed and break everything down to a "T"! Thank you so much!

FancyLex: Absolutely love all your videos, you make everything so clear to understand!!! You definitely make me proud to be a naturalista!!!

MrsCottonCurls: Great, simplistic advice! I couldn't have said it better myself. I keep trying to reiterate this to the ladies of my natural hair meetup.

CocoB: i love your hair "tutorial" vids.they are straight to the point, very informative with simple steps lol

Kanika C: I started doing this bout 3 mos ago and my hair loves me for it. I have gained nearly 3 inches, in 3 mos. My hair hasn't grew this quick since i was a child. So thanks for this vid. Cause i never would have tried this if i hadn't come across this vid.

loxykelly: I love how you still use what's been working for you! Good thing to remember! And a good way to avoid becoming a product junkie!

MsTaLaiah: Love this! It's so simple, yet I never thought to do it. So what style did you wear the next day? I could see it being a twist out, but I wasn't sure. My twist outs are similar except I HAVE to use gel. My hair likes it :)

Tanisha A. Cunningham: I actually use the same exact products on my hair to keep it moisturize. It is absoulutely the best recipe for thick/full curly hair texture. SheaMoisture is a Godsent in a jar! Sure wish they had it when my mama was doing my hair instead of Dax and Softsheen!

Marlena D: Love your videos. I've gotten some great ideas for the upkeep of my natural hair. Yours is so beautiful, thick and healthy. I agree that we should use the products that we feel comfortable with & that work best for our hair. The same product works differently on everyone's hair. I'm big into products that have nice scent, as I love for my hair to smell nice, so I generally gravitate towards those types of products. Right now my fave prods are Ecostyler and the Hollywood Tea Tree oil.

SHÁE SHAKUR: omg , thank you so much. your videos are very helpful. me and my mom going natural together

blackrraine: I had two jars of that shea cream in my cabinet just sitting there. So after this video I decided to use it to moisturize and retwist the front of my hair. All I can say is that its day 3 and the hair is still moist. Thanks for the reminder.

It's DiiDiie: So simple , love it, thanks !

licemam: You're my inspiration and i love your videos. Your hair looks really nice and has grown a lot. Keep up the good work and keep inspiring us!

Clarinder19: This video was appropriate for me! I am on operation moisture. My hair has been so dry in this horrible winter. Need to focus on getting a proper moisture routine going. Thanks!

Whitney.: This is so helpful. Thanks for making this video. It help me so much for showing me how to moisturize my hair at night.

moorednc: Just what I needed! I keep my hair in twist througout the week. So, I'll try the water + coconut oil on them in teh middle of the week. Instead of either wating til the end of the week, or in mid week do it all over. Too much time. This seems much faster/easier.

Adora Egwudobi: Her name is Keri, she's so very, fly oh my its a little bit scary :) Keri I love you! Your videos are perfect for my hair type and you use the same products as I do! All of your styles work with my hair type. You are an inspiration to all women going naturall <3 love from Maryland!! :)

Jenni Lovette: I love it...your hair always looks so healthy :)

queenlybeing: Have you watched her "How i grew my natural hair" video? It talks about some things you can implement into your regimen to help you ! :)

MsSandra: i've been looking for a way to keep my hair moisturized better! Thanks for the tip, I bought my EVOO and hope it will turn out right in the morning:)

Miss Dee: love your videos...you keep things simple, its encouraging. thanks :)

SimplySm!le: Thanks for the video. Always to the point. Love it. Thanks. Will start incorporating this tip.

Living My Lex Life: Your skin is so lovely! It would be cool to see a regimen vid! :D

888ThomtheArtist888: I LOVE your videos. You have my dream hair. I get so happy when I see a new video in my box from you. You also motivate me to look my best. I'm proud of you and you make me proud to be a black woman.

beautybynajah: Fantastic video! You got it down, I do just about the same thing! :D

Arodys: I alternate between a leave in conditioner/hair concoction and a mixture of 1 cup/1 cup aloe vera juice. I never knew my hair could be so manageable without a relaxer. All about moisture and retaining moisture. So loving my hair.

Allison Peevy: Kerry Thank you so much for posting this video. I was going to email you tonight about KT's hair because its been so dry. You are a life savor.

loreensophia: your hair looks shiny and healthy!! *.* wow. love your vids

mumplus2: sometimes the simplest routines are the best! Thanks for sharing.x

Keesh32: This video came just in time.. I just had my hair cut on Sat. My hair wasn't getting moisturized enough so my ends were breaking a lot. I will try this and see if there is a difference in my hair.

ChanelsaysCoco: Thank you for making this video cause I was getting confused on how I can moisturize my hair :)

SimplYounique: @nonfictions Yes! And consistency is important. Our hair has to be trained. Glad you agree. :-)

EatStylePlay: I've been using this hair pomade. I have really flakey patches on my scalp because i was ignoring it. ACV on my scalp and wash, and then moisterize with the pomade from Qhemet Biologics every two days I've seen a really good difference .

Fosmoore: Thanks so much for your videos, you don't know how much you have helped me on my hair journey.

lovlilady: Simple....I love it. Beautiful hair

moonsmoothie9: I'll moisturize with conditioner, coconut oil, and a butter, or a butter and my hair is soooo nice and soft the next day!!! This method is PURE truth!

Irene In the Zone: Fantastic tutorial!

Auntie: I do the same thing. I thought I was nuts for using the creamy product second, because it is a middle man,LOL but when I am consistent my hair comes out great. Thanks for this vid.

Paige Wright: I'm curious as to how you style your hair in the mornings. Most of my styles require that I keep them over night (Twist outs, Braid outs, Bantu knot outs, etc.). I would love to moisturize my hair as often as you do, but I'm afraid that would require me to redo my styles nightly (I try and get at least 3 days out of them). Just curious =)

Martha Willis: Slowing learning how to care for natural hair, I have a while to go before I am all natural, thanks for all the info, its very helpful!

Kai Lachelle: this is EXACTLY what i do every other day

DGFmakeup: love it so gonna try it

1960genius: great video, thank you for doing this and sharing!!

LoverOfBeauty1: This was sooooooooo helpful, am new to this THANKS!!

reallyme02: Thanks Kerry. This vid is very helpful. Keep the vids coming.

ddwdent5: Hello!! Your features, your hair, and personality are all just so beautiful. I love your videos. I have tried some styles on my 12 yr old daughter, but they just don't come out the same, I guess it's her texture or the products I am using. I am a newbee natural (B/C Oct2011/last perm Nov2010). The funny thing is my son (22 yrs old) hair texture and thickness is just like yours. I wish I could try some of your styles on him. LOL!!! See that, you could wear those twist just like that. NICE!!

kwll35: Great video! Gave me good tips. Just curious, did you take the twist out the next morning, if so, do you have a picture or video?

Sayo Babe: Hello Ms. Simply Younique I have been following you for about a year and half. You are such a beautiful person on the inside and out. You inspire me. Now let me make sure I have this right. 1. Water 2. Leave In Conditioner 3. Cream like shea butter 4. Oil to seal?

Goddessofmydestiny: I revisit your videos periodically. They are i informative and are great hair inspiration. Thanks

Cass: Now that your hair is longer, has your hair regimen changed since the last regimen video? Great video by the way!

teeahtate: Your hair looks so nice and healthy.

keshkesh: Thanks for the info :) Love your vibe. xx

Rukky Itebu: I love dis video I will follow this steps for my hair because am going back to natural thanks so much

Rema In Love with God: You hair looks simply beautiful.

liab: this video was very helpful!! thank you!!

SimplYounique: @badtrik The same thing applies to color treated hair. Nightly or every other night.

tequilashots875: I have to agree. Took me a while to figure out which products my hair liked. Trial and error. My hair doesn't like olive oil either. It loves grapeseed and avocado oil.

BlackHairOMG: LOVE your vids boo, just subscribed!

MzLisaD1: I know life is happening, but know that you are missed on YouTube/facebook! You were such a positive force & I pray all is well! Happy Holidays!

JaelinsMyWorld: I just did my big chop on Friday... I am freaking because I have never had hair shorter than my shoulders and now it is probably 3-4 inches. I love the curl pattern, but as it dries it look like a curly afro, I hate it! How do I keep the curls defined, separated and looking moisturized?

MrsSpontaneous: Lovely. It's growing so fast.

4evertashie: Would you recommend this for transitioners?

ThatNYNaturalista: Thanks lady! How often do you moisturize?

Kinkycurlycoil: Exactly! Moisture is key :)

Lyfe: I'm so thankful for your videos!

Star Moore: my friend watched your video and now her hair looks gorgeous she uses water now and the shea mosture smoothie and grapeseed oil and her hair look so much better. I also use grapeseed oil and my hair loves water , you give great advise.

Vanessa Jureidini: Ur hair looks amazing!

RaeLaRoux: really? damn id love to see a video on that, her hair has me so jealous.

Brenda Mavv: @SimplYounique You my inspiration I tell you. You are fabulous and very much encouraging. Stay blessed hun!

Tia thatsamia: Hi ! How often do you wash/cowash? Do you do this between washing?

SimplYounique: Hey Arwai5, That is definitely NOT the weirdest question I have been asked.. lol.. I got it from Sally's Beauty Supply Store. You can get them from any beauty supply store though.

Vanett77: @888ThomtheArtist888 I was just saying the same thing. I get so happy when I see a new video from her. I was checking all weekend. Got so excited when I saw this, she really has helped my hair journey tremendously!!!

Sammy: How often do you do this a week?

Misskimmy2011: Great video... I agree with everything you said. Water is the key.

Ks Coates: Thanks for this! Love you for it!

DimplesDeep1: Thanks so much!! Your looking great!

Seneca Hordge: great video you are absolutely right no specific product works from one person to the next.

Mubangamumba: I love your simplicity...water olive oil.. done really... not much product build up and your hair is wonderful. keep doing what you do.

Jamie Braxton: Can I apply oil to my hair first ,before I apply "As I Am curl defining jelly" or will it affect the way it defines my curls & make them not hold at all?

Doraemi The Singer: I used to use olive oil to seal .. it just wasn't for me! It would kinda just sit in my hair ... now i LOVE using coconut oil because it actually saturaits into the hair :)

Tonae Williams: I love this video is on point very to the point!!

Latiffany Smith: Thanks for the information. Love your hair.

SimplYounique: @JaelinsMyWorld Since you just big chopped your hair needs to be trained. Apply water regularly. I found that eco styler gel helped enhance my curl definition. Apply a leave-in conditioner or a moisturizer before applying the gel. Keep in mind that eco styler gel does not mix well with all products so don't be afraid to experiment until you find the perfect combination.

Popcorn’s Palace: i love ur hair and it looks so soft and its pretty

Angel Zie: This video is the truth. I moistiruze my hair one per day with my homemade creamy shea butter or my homemade moiturizer which consists of vegetable glycerin, aloe vera gel, distilled water, and evoo. When I use the creamy shea butter, I apply water to my hair first. When I use my moisturizer mix, there is no need to apply water first. Scalp massaging also promotes growth.

SimplYounique: @aunticci72 Thanks.. No, I did not blow it out. It was in an old twist out. Tying down my hair at night with a scarf helps to flatten it out and make it look a little smoother.

SimplYounique: @MsShowtime2010 Thanks.. It's still growing.. I'll do a length check probably when it gets closer to summer.

The Good Patriot Homestead: Sometimes I also sleep with a plastic cap over my head and the next morning my hair is sooooo... soft and moisturized.

lstubbs614: I do the exact same thing. Sometimes less is more

Miyah Elaine: My goodness you are just gorgeous! I'm curious...do you follow this same regimen when your hair is flat ironed?
