My Hair Story - Sabrina

noid-CSC_1168Introduce yourself . . .

I’m Sabrina, a Natural hair, beauty and style blogger over at www.seriouslynatural.org.

I’m married and have two great kids, one 18 and the other 12. I am a full-time blogger but have a background in Government regulation and Union work.

I have a BA in Political Science and a Masters in Public Administration

Are you relaxed, natural, texturized or texlaxed?

Natural for 8 years.

What’s your story, how did you get to where you are?

We moved from New Orleans to Denver after Hurricane Katrina. That turned our world upside-down and i was fearful for my hair.

I was relaxed back then and was worried the drastic change in climate would create breakage so I stopped relaxing.

Now, for the first three years I was a weave-wearing, wig-sporting, braid-swinging diva but my hair suffered as a result.

By the end of year three I scarily decided to take the plunge and become a full natural and just wear it out. I had already BC (although I had no idea what that was. I was just cutting off the damaged hair) so I threw some products in my hair and put a scarf on my TWA.

What is your typical weekly regimen?

I no longer use shampoo and haven’t since I started the Curly Girl Method back in January.

I cleanse my hair weekly with a cleansing conditioner (As I Am Coconut Cowash*) and use shea moisture products* and kinky curly products*. I wet my hair and cowash (not cleansing) about two or three times a week year around. I wear the wash and go.

Are you happy with your progress so far?

Very! I’m really happy because after I embraced the CGM, I began seeing more definition, moisture and growth.

What’s your signature style?

Wash and go. I’ve tried braidouts, twistouts, twists and NOTHING, and I mean nothing works better than the wash and go.

How do you ensure that your ends are protected from the elements and your hands?

I seal with coconut oil or Shea Moisture Raw Shea Elixir*. I am very gentle with my hair as well and take my time when I’m in it.

noid-Labor_Day_weekend_2013Do you have a goal length or are you more concerned about the health of your hair?

I’m more concerned with the health of my hair but I would love bra-strap length or further. I’m getting there but as long as my hair is healthy I’m happy.

Is there anything that you hair hates?

Silicones, sulfates, etc. Doing the CGM has really helped my hair. It hates shampoo as it will tangle into a mess so I’m glad I have left it alone.

Do you have any favorite hair products?

As I am products*, Kinky Curly products*, Shea Moisture products* and Aubrey Organics products*.

Where can we find you online?

I can be found at my blog, www.seriouslynatural.org
