My Hair Story - Olivia

My Hair Story - Olivia (2)Introduce yourself . . .

Hey my name is Olivia but my family call me Libby. I am 27 and I’m from New York! I love to learn new things about everything while having fun at the same time!

Are you relaxed, natural, texturized or texlaxed?

9 Months natural ( transitioned 5 months, big chop: April 24th)

What’s your hair story, how did you get to where you are?

I toyed around with the idea of going natural in 2010 but couldn’t really commit to it simply because I just wanted to look like everyone else.

I researched for weeks on end watching Dr. Akbari on youtube trying to see myself without a relaxer.

One day while watching a Tyra Banks episode, I saw little girls look disgusted with an afro wig* when Tyra asked if it was good hair.

I cried because I didn’t want my daughters to have that attitude about their natural hair while I continued relaxing mine. I didn’t want them addicted to the “creamy crack”.

In 2012, after my son’s birthday I made the choice not to relax my hair ever again and when I did my big chop (April 24th 2013) I had transitioned for 5 months. Now I’m 9 months natural and I have never been happier.

What is your typical weekly regimen?

Sundays: Clay Mask, Deep condition

Monday: Moisturize

Tuesday: Moisturize

Wednesday: Co-wash, Moisturize

Thursday: Moisturize

Friday:Moisturize

Saturday: Moisturize

Are you happy with your progress so far?

Yeah I am super happy. When I did my big chop (April 24th this year) I thought to myself  ‘man I must be buggin’ but the more length and healthier my hair becomes, the more I’m proud of myself for going natural.

My Hair Story - Olivia (3)What’s your signature style?

Twistouts because they’re just so much fun!!!! I also wear two strand twists a lot too.

How do you ensure that your ends are protected from the elements and your hands?

I’m still learning (from youtube and this site) how to protect my hair but I keep it in twists and braids.

Do you have a goal length or are you more concerned about the health of your hair?

My goal length is shoulder length but I most definitely want it to be as healthy as possible.

My Hair Story - Olivia (1)Is there anything that you hair hates?

I’m still trying to figure it out but I have only been using natural stuff.

Do you have any favorite hair products?

I have become somewhat of a product junkie as far as natural stuff goes you know like oils* and butters* lol but not too many commercially available stuff.

Where can we find you online?
