My Hair Story - Brittni Lee

My Hair Story - Brittni LeeIntroduce Yourself…

Hi! I am Brittni Lee, a 19 year old college student.

Are you relaxed, natural, texturized or texlaxed?

I am 4 months natural.

What’s your story, how did you get to where you are?

In September of 2012 (my freshman year in college), I decided that I would stop getting perms. I was always interested to see my natural hair texture so I decided to grow my hair out.

Initially, I had planned on doing a long grow out but my hair got a little difficult to manage due to the two textures. In January of 2013 I cut off the permed ends of the hair in my “kitchen” area just to see if the myth of “cutting your hair will make your hair grow faster” as people so often told me once they heard about my hair journey.

I cut my hair into a bob in the summer of 2013 just so that I could manage the two textures better and prepare myself for the ‘big chop’ that I knew I would soon be doing. In September of 2013, I decided that it was time. I went to a natural hair salon and did the big chop! My hair has grown to neck length since then!

What is your typical weekly regimen?

I love wash and go’s! So I will wash my hair, t-shirt dry it a little, spray my special leave in conditioner* in my hair, massage it with coconut oil* and apply the Eco styler* olive oil gel to hold the curl pattern.

To maintain the w-a-g Throughout the week, I’ll use the greenhouse method by putting a tiny bit of leave-in moisturizer on my hair, a plastic shower cap* and my satin bonnet*.

Are you happy with your progress so far?

My hair has grown to neck length post big chop which was 4 months ago. So yes, I am extremely excited about the growth that I’ve seen thus far.

What’s your signature style?

My wash and go! Or a sew in

How do you ensure that your ends are protected from the elements and your hands?

I seal my ends with raw shea after washing my hair each time. It locks in the moisture and minimizes breakage tremendously.

Do you have a goal length or are you more concerned about the health of your hair?

I would like to retain length as well as have healthy hair. My goal is mid back length.

Is there anything that you hair hates?

My hair repels certain products specifically the Beautiful Textures product line. As I applied the custard, it would leave a white flake like residue on my hair. The same thing happened with their leave in conditioner*.

Do you have any favorite hair products?

I live by Taliah Wajid products! I love her black earth and curly curl shampoo, the great detangler, and her African Healing Oil.

For the most part I’m pretty simple when it comes to products. Eco-styler gel, raw Shea butter*, organix coconut oil would be my faves!
