Lupita Gets Her First Vogue Cover

Lupita Nyongo Vogue Cover July 2014

Try as we might to stop talking about Lupita Nyong’o (this girl is everywhere!) we simply can’t. In the recent months since she her Oscar winning role in 12 years a slave, we’ve heard and read so much about her, from her cut glass accent to her poised elegant manner, that she feels practically like family now. Lupita has now landed her first (hopefully of many) Vogue covers as she graces the front of the July 2014 issue. She also got a 9 page spread along with it wearing designers ranging from Prada to Alexander Wang.

I’m also really excited to hear that she has acquired the rights to Chimamanda Ngozi’s best selling novel Americanah, and if you haven’t read it I sincerely urge that you take a peek. I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed for this project to get off the ground in the not too distant future. For the moment however, Lupita remains busy having recently been cast in Star Wars: Episode VII, certainly a world away from her previous role but well within the capabilities of the talented 31 year old.

Lupita is well aware of how suddenly she has exploded into the public consciousness; in little more than a year she has morphed into an elegant Oscar winning actress and solid fashionista, not to mention one of our favorite naturals! Her pants and sweatshirt student days are well and truly behind her.

She has worn her short crop since she was nineteen and has had hairstylists like Ted Gibson and Vernon François work their magic on her tresses creating a Grace Jones inspired flat-top cut, and a two-pronged Mohawk. Who knew there was so much you could do with a TWA?

I’m sure we are not done talking about Lupita this year, not by a long shot. And can I just say that if she bottles whatever she uses on her skin, I’m so buying! Here are some more pictures from the spread.
