Natural Colored Hair YouTuber Nefertiti Bourne Goes Bald

I was on YouTube a few hours ago looking for a video from the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill Album to post, and Nefertiti’s video caught my eye. She was in my feed and it said she cut all of her colored “blue green mermaid hair” off.

I was shocked! But then again I am always shocked when a woman shaves her head because it isn’t something you see everyday in this world of ‘hair growing & length retention.” I am very fascinated with the thought of going bald, what makes a woman do such a thing when she doesn’t have to?

How does one get to the point of realizing “it’s just hair!” and it grows back, no big deal? Or is it that YouTube does this to you? Is it really a thing that if you have a YouTube channel based on hair and you want to move beyond just hair, you have to shave your head to get people to refocus? Sort of like Shameless Maya did in 2014.

I hit Nefertiti’s description box to see if I had any clues on why she shaved her head and this is what she said:

RIP to my beautiful Mermaid curls! SIKE! BYE FELICIA! Let’s SHAVE ALL MY HAIR OFF and CELEBRATE going BALD!!!!

I also need to let this channel grow out of just hair videos. I’m tired of hair. Hair doesn’t define Your beauty. Remember that. I shaved my hair off for myself. I don’t need a cause to justify why I wanted to shave my head.

**I shaved my head because I CAN.** Not because its damaged, but because I am more than just hair. I expect to lose all my “subscribers” and I honestly don’t care.

I did these hair videos because I like to dye my hair and help other curly girls out… it obviously caught your attention but my personality was meant to keep you.

I’m hoping that now you can see my inner beauty. I am a Warrior. Oh and DUH… when I hit my goal of 500k I’m obviously going to shave my head again! (That’s if I decide to grow it out) Psh and you guys thought I forgot. smh

I can understand how difficult it can be when hair is what is used to hook and audience but you want to move away from that obligation. I also understand the sheer liberation of letting something go that might be holding you back, even if it is hair.
