5 Reasons A Support System Is Important In A Hair Journey

curl friendsSo, you’ve decided to go on a hair journey. You’ve decided to go natural and you have also decided that you want to grow your hair healthy and long.

Being excited about this journey is an understatement! It’s a feeling of a brand new you and the process of researching and constantly watching famous youtubers will begin.

You also begin reading information on some popular hair sites feeling thrilled to pieces while embarking on all of this new knowledge.

The truth is one of the most important things you need when starting a hair journey is a strong support system and here are 5 reasons this is important.

Counters negative energy

Let’s tell the world right? So, where does it start? Your immediate circle. So, thinking, “oh gosh, I have to tell my friends”.

So, you tell them about all of your hair research. Proceeding to discuss coconut oil*, olive oil*, water based moisturizers, moisturizing and sealing, water, clarifying…just to name a few.

You just know that their excitement is going to be just as strong as your excitement is, right? Then you get, “Girl, black hair can’t grow that long” or “Why are you going natural?” or “How long are you trying to grow your hair?” “Hunny, better get you some weave* and be done with it”.

So, now you feel disappointed. The reactions are not what you expected. The thing is, natural hair or naturally long hair has become so far few and in between, I guess it has become unrealistic for a sister to have brastrap length, midlength, waist length or even tail bone length hair. Finding a solid support system helps counter this negative energy.

Keeps you motivated

In the beginning of my journey, I found myself needing to engage myself with people who were in the same mind set as me. I had several setbacks in the beginning, from breakage to shedding issues.

I found myself ready to quit. I mean, to heck with it! After researching, I found other fellow journey(ers) who were experiencing the same problems as me. I quickly began to join a few hair boards. OMG! It was the best thing ever! Thousands of ladies who were very involved in their journey.

They offered advice and shared their experiences (be it negative or positive). I needed to see that this was not a dream.

It was NOT as far fetched as people said it was. Black hair can grow really long! I mean really long…I’m not talking about shoulder length…I’m not talking about Arm Pit Length. Black hair can get to Brastrap length and it can get to waist length….quite easily.

So, you’ve found your good place. You’ve found your circle and you are proceeding with your journey as happy as can be…and you begin to see results.

The excitement is real in the beginning. Hunny, I used to measure my hair every week. Heck, if I found a product that claimed faster hair growth*, I could be seen measuring daily! Seems silly to the average person, but my hair journey circle understood.

During my periods of setbacks, my solid support system understood and were always there to offer the best advice. And to offer all sorts of solutions to my hair problems. I mean, my circle became my backbone.

Helps you focus

I often found myself deviating from my regimen or I wasn’t consistent as I needed to be as far as daily moisturizing and sealing, cowashing, protective styling or wrapping my hair up with my satin cap at night.

But, seeing the awesome results of the ladies in my circle gave me the drive to help and keep me focused. In order for me to get these great results, I needed to be consistent and driven.

There was this one member who posted the daily reminder, “Remember to moisturize and Seal!”. Hunny, today, you will never catch me without my satin cap. For me, moisturizing and Sealing has to be done as often as I brush my teeth and bathe. Ahhh, my new way of life and I love it!

Provides you with positive energy

So, the gist of what I’m saying is that when (not if) you come across challenges as far as a solid support system, find a different avenue to gain your positive energy.

It’s human nature to absorb the energy that is presented to us. So, if you are allowing yourself to be subjected to negative energy, you are unknowingly absorbing it and it will affect you and your journey.

In summary, I highly suggest online hair groups for needed support. The online groups that I joined definitely were the driving forces that allowed me to have a successful, knowledgeable and happy hair journey.
