Faux locs still is one of the coolest protective styles to do for natural hair and with protective style challenges starting this month everyone is looking for their go to style, something that will stick, look great, and at the same time protect their hair.

I have to be honest, I have heard horror stories about faux locs that have been installed too tight which causes a ton of tension on the roots and can lead to hair loss.

As a matter of fact any style with added hair to your own hair can lead to stress on the hair so the key is to ensure that your style is comfortable, regardless of the style.

Another issue many women complain about is the amount of time it takes to install any of these styles. With thick natural hair you might be looking at 8 hours to a couple of days depending on how you choose to do it. This might actually just be something you have to live with because sometimes with a busy lifestyle there is no getting away from starting and stopping which extends the style install considerably.

The below video is pretty interesting and can be a comfortable alternative to installing faux locs and just might cut down the time spent on your installation especially if you were busy.

In the video the stylist prepares the locs prior to installing it on her client then uses a crochet needle to add it to the twists that the client has done on her own hair. Doing faux locs like this cuts down time it takes to do the locs and might be a great option for those of you who want to spend less time doing your hair.
