10 Pinterest Photos to Give You Hair Journey #Goals

As a naturalista with hair prone to extreme shrinkage, I definitely understand how it feels to be in a hair journey rut. It may seem like it’s been forever since you returned to natural hair, but your hair looks the same as it did when you first big chopped!

With feelings like this, it can be easy to get a little discouraged in your hair journey, but no worries! After going through Pinterest, we’ve found ten naturalistas whose natural hair journeys can give you some inspiration!

I mean, no natural hair photo collage would be complete without including Solange. Natural since 2009, Solange was one of the first of many women that decided to put down the relaxer and rock her naturally kinky* hair. Seven years later, and look at all of her fabulous growth!

You’ll even notice your hair growth in your updos! @Curlsafari shows growth after five and eighteen months. She went from a TWA to a fierce puff! In less than two years, she is really puff goals!

We love this photo collage from @sweetpeajessie because she shows the transformation from relaxed hair to natural. While her hair was beautiful while it was relaxed, it has so much more volume now that it’s natural. She’s also a great example because she shows how different styles can look during different stages of a hair journey.

Under the impression that your hair won’t grow past arm pit length? I hope this photo changes your mind. In five years, her hair went from shoulder length to practically waist length. With shrinkage, you may not see the full length of your hair when its in its curly state, but once you stretch your hair you’ll see all the progress you’ve made.

I know that when I personally started my hair journey, Mz Tammy was one of my original hair crushes. Another naturalista that braved the big chop to a TWA (teeny weeny afro), her curls are now extremely thick and she has some of the cutest styles! The pops of color that she adds also give an extra something to her styles!

What Youtube watching natural doesn’t know Naptural85?! Considered one of the first natural hair vloggers, Whitney really represents for the ladies with type 4 hair. Viewers were able to watch her grow from a big chop to beautiful, long hair. If you’re new to your hair journey and want some tips, definitely make sure to subscribe to Naptural85 on Youtube!

This is @CurlyCasey, and she’s one of our examples of maximum hair growth potential in a short period of time. In 6 months, her hair grew both out and down. Even though your hair may not have as much length, you should try a personal 6 month hair growth challenge, just to see the potential your hair has. To maintain volume and thickness like this in your hair, avoid using heat tools. Opt for heatless styling options, and keep your hair moisturized at all time!

Coily hair, no problem? Although your hair will be subject to shrinkage, this collage shows that you can still make the most out of your type 4 hair. She grew her hair out from a close cut, to a great length that she could do a fro-hawk. My favorite part about this collage is that she shows you can experiment even during those in between stages (like those awesome finger coils in the second photo). If anyone knows the source of this photo, please tag them!

This collage is another excellent example of puff and ponytail growth in a hair journey. Her hair went from little coils to a full and flourishing updo. If you do decide to experiment with updos during your hair growth journey, make sure to not use any hair ties* or scrunchies that are too tight. You want length, but you don’t want to ruin your edges. Everything in moderation!

Ever looked at your twist out and said when is it going to get longer! This photo should definitely be an inspiration. In three years, her hair (and her twist outs) grew and took on a different look. If you don’t believe that your hair is growing compare some photos of your twist outs, you’ll definitely see if there’s been a difference or not!

Whether we like it or not, any successful hair journey requires patience. Even though there are some things we can do to help the process (like taking hair growth vitamins*, personalizing our hair regimen, etc), the reality is that we need to let our hair do its thing.

As long as you know your hair is healthy, that you’re using great products, and that you’re caring for it, don’t stress too much about the length, it will come. Everyone’s hair grows at its own pace, and your hair does have a chance to grow to its optimal length.
