Traveling Soon? How To Acclimate Your Hair To A New Environment

Those of us who travel frequently or have moved to different states and locations know that the environment has a direct effect on our hair. If you are not aware just think about how humid days during the summer turns your twist out into a puff ball!

In many locations there are more issues than just humidity. Imagine moving to a place where the air is noticeably more dry, a higher altitude or, in more cases, where you just can’t put your finger on it but you know something is different.

What ever the case may be, if you’ve moved how do you get your hair accustomed to the changes?!

1. Protective styling

First I recommend to immediately put your hair in a protective style while you figure things out. If your hair is acting wonky due to the environment you are more likely to gain frustration and not care for it as well.

Whether you get crochet braids or just stick to wearing a twisted style you are giving your hair a break and unknowingly helping it to adjust.

2. Research

Look into the type of air your new city has. Are you at a higher altitude than what you’re used to? Does the air have less or more moisture?

Once you can clearly define what the big change is you can then use the internet to search for hair care tips. There are tons of blogs and forums that discuss this very thing. Look up some in your area and see what regimens naturals around you are following.

3. Patience

Truth is acclimating your hair to a new environment takes time. You will most likely have to switch up your usual routine and will have to try some new products to find what are the keys to making your hair work in this new place.

Have fun heading out to the beauty supply store and picking up some new products and trying a few new styles. If you have patience during this process your hair will most likely cooperate more easily.
