4 Things You Must Do To Get Your Low Manipulation Regimen To Be Successful

Low manipulation styles on the surface do not look like ‘low manipulation styles’. Think about it, you see a woman with her hair out rocking a massive wash and go, the first thing you think is that she has to be doing something to her hair at night to maintain her hair for the next day.

The truth is, styles that fall into the “low manipulation” category do not look the part but they help to give maximum length retention when done right.

With that said here are four things you must be doing for your low manipulation regimen to work:

1. No manipulation

This seems obvious but we have to make it a point because people still get confused about degrees of manipulation and often wonder why their style isn’t working for them.

Once the style is complete on wash day you should not have to touch your hair again until the next time you wash. If you find yourself twisting, adding products, braiding, adding perm rods* or doing any sort of ‘maintenance work’ on your hair then you need to rethink your style and or methods.

2. Avoid stressful environments

We all love a little wind in our hair at times, but be very careful because one of the main things that cause breakage and hair loss is the environment our hair is exposed to. Avoid wind, clothes that snag the hair while it is out or a lot of direct sunlight that can dry out our tresses and cause heat damage in some cases.

3. Cover your hair at night

Preservation of moisture is our number one priority when we are practicing a low manipulation regimen. When you cover your hair at night with a bonnet or satin scarf you are better able to preserve the moisture in your hair.

4. Spraying a little water on your hair is ok

If your hair needs moisture, give it to it. Even if that means your style is altered a bit, It is much better for your hair to be healthy within the style than to be styled and parched. A little spray in the morning never hurt anyone, so spray your hair if you need to. Do you practice low manipulation styling?
