Yes, This Is Lil Kim. What Happened To The Black Girl From 1997?

Lil-Kim

Let me be the first to say, typically I would not write about Little Kim on BHI unless she had a fly weave* or maybe if she broke the internet with a fro or something.

With that said, it is safe to say that Lil Kim is so far away from debuting a fro I might as well forget about that dream. Recently she broke the internet with the above selfie, which is a far cry from what Kim used to look like.

She left us all scratching our heads on what in the world happened to her skin and body, and what could have caused the need for such an obvious skin altering transformation.

This is the kim we know:

And even then she looks very different from the Kim in the 90’s. After the picture was posted we saw an outpouring of concern, people are wondering and saying that there is a deeper issue at hand. One that is emotional and not tied to just purely vanity and skin bleaching.

There was an article written in Newsweek where Kim touched on what her issues are and in a sense we can see that those demons are still plaguing her to this day:

“I did what it took to survive,” Kim says now. “I ran errands for drug dealers, lived with them–whatever it took to make ends meet.” The men she met seemed to have a special radar for damaged souls. “All my life men have told me I wasn’t pretty enough–even the men I was dating. And I’d be like, ‘Well, why are you with me, then?’ ” She winces. “It’s always been men putting me down just like my dad. To this day when someone says I’m cute, I can’t see it. I don’t see it no matter what anybody says.”

“I have low self-esteem and I always have,” she says. “Guys always cheated on me with women who were European-looking. You know, the long-hair type. Really beautiful women that left me thinking, ‘How I can I compete with that?’ Being a regular black girl wasn’t good enough.” And the implants? “That surgery was the most pain I’ve ever been in in my life,” says Kim. “But people made such a big deal about it. White women get them every day. It was to make me look the way I wanted to look. It’s my body.”

I wish someone would grab her by the shoulders and tell her how beautiful she was without all the changes. What do you guys think? Will Kim turn this train around before its too late?
