Florida Middle School Child’s Hair Set On Fire By Bullies And No Comment From The School

Childs hair set on fireYesterday I saw a story where a Florida middle student’s mother was trying to figure out why her daughter’s hair was set on fire and what the school was going to do about it.

The young lady said that it was done by another student and at the time she had braids in. The fire was so bad that it burnt the braids and some of the child’s natural hair that was mixed in the braids.

According to wthr:

“All of a sudden, I just saw everyone laughing. I didn’t even know what was going on. He started banging my head with a folder, I could feel the smoke and stuff,” Makiah said.

That same student allegedly tried to put the fire out, but it was an administrator who finally extinguished it.

“If it hadn’t have been for her, my child’s hair would probably all be gone,” Howard said.

“He did it for no reason. I have no problem with him, I don’t talk to him or anything,” said Makiah.

Makiah’s mother said administrators told her on Friday the male student would not return to school and three other boys were suspended for five days.

“Boys were scaring her, pretending to light her hair, watch the light in her hair,” Howard said.

The Florida mom was furious because she was told that the boys responsible were suspended and back in school by Monday.

This is not OK. This is a concern for me. She called me crying to me, saying he’s back in school. I just don’t think enough is being done,” Howard said.

Of course, the school has no comment on the situation claiming they do not comment on the disciplinary actions of kids. These days we are so focused on building the esteem of our girls it seems as if we have to get our boys up to speed about taking care of their sisters and not setting them on fire. SMH!
