5 Tips To Help Your Little Girl Get Through Wash Day

Doing your child’s hair is not always an easy thing because for one they do not like to sit down for long, and two the constant tugging can be uncomfortable.

As a mom, my desire has always been to make this process as creative and fun as possible and I wanted to share my technique.

Hair dresser’s dolls

Most little girls love dolls, so I bought mine a hair dresser’s doll so that while I am doing my daughter’s hair she can style her doll’s hair.

At times, I ask her to try and imitate the style which I have done previously or the one I am currently doing.

Break down the hair care into various stages

Kids do not want to sit down for a long time, even with a fun activity they quickly get bored and want to get up.

So if it’s both shampoo and deep conditioning* day, after shampoo I tie the hair in a pony and let my daughter go and play while it air dries.

After that I put the deep conditioner* in and again let her go and play. This way when it’s time to wash and style it doesn’t seem like a long process because she had so many breaks.

Do other things which are non-hair related

At times I have a makeup session with my little girl, using toy makeup sets and nail polish from Target or Walmart. This way it seems as if we are having a whole spa day while her hair is getting done.

Let her choose the style

This will need a bit of structure, so pick three styles and have her pick one. Also have her pick out her favourite barrettes or ribbons for styles she will be wearing out.

Use a big wall mirror

I tend to do my little girls hair in the bathroom that way she is looking at herself in the mirror. This distracts her from being time conscious and she can see what I am doing.

What techniques are you using to get your little girls to sit down while you do their hair?
