I Lost My Wig at the Airport on the Way to my Friend’s Wedding

This past weekend I was wrapping up at a conference in Atlanta and planned on catching a quick flight to Raleigh in time for a friend’s wedding, and then back home to DC.

It was a hectic weekend to say the least, but Sunday morning I got up at 4:45am, threw on some leggings and my favorite head wrap and made my way to the airport. I planned on getting ready at RDU once I arrived and to take an Uber straight to the church.

As for hair, I had been wearing a simple bob wig all weekend so I decided to keep the trend as it was the easiest, most low maintenance route.

By the time I made it to Raleigh I was so exhausted. The flight was only an hour but the early morning with little sleep was really getting to me. I headed straight to the restroom to get ready because I only had 45 minutes to get myself together and to make it to the church on time.

I threw on a cute dress, did my make up, and was set all except for my hair.

“Wait. Where is my wig*?!” I thought to myself panicked as I searched through my bags. I was certain I had packed it because I remember giggling to myself as I went threw TSA and had to send the wig that was in a plastic bag through the line.

Apparently between Atlanta and here it had gone missing. FAIL!

I didn’t have time to go to a store to even attempt to search for a new wig*, and my head wrap definitely didn’t go with my outfit so I had to tackle my natural hair.

I ran to the closest restaurant and asked for a to-go cup of olive oil* and a plastic fork. The waiter looked at me like I was crazy but fulfilled my request.

I saturated my cornrows with the oil to try to revive them and said a quick prayer as I undid my braids. I then used the fork as a pick and to blend in the parts. Luckily I had a couple of bobby pins* in my bag so I was able to pin back a side to complete the style.

Just like that I faced adversity and took control of it.

Oh and I was 10 minutes late to the wedding but luckily they started late so I was able to make it in, and everyone loved my hair!
