Are Baby Hairs Making A Comeback?

The small and sometimes not so small wispy hairs on the perimeter of the hairline that are often very fine and typically found on a small toddler, thus the name “Baby Hair”, have made a comeback.

They can be natural or manufactured but however they come about, the result isn’t accomplished without tedious and masterful skill.  It’s all in the “flicka da wrist”,  as Chedda Da would say. Although I’m sure mastering the fine art of baby hair wasn’t the inspiration for his 2015 chart-topping hit.

While some hair trends should forever remain in the cloak of childhood like Ducktails or any hairstyle that involved the use of Pink Lotion or Black Pro Style Gel, the fanciful creation of baby hairs seem to have made a resurgence. As we know, most trends are cyclical and now is the time for the latest generation to give their take on it.

TLC’s Chilli, the posterchild for baby hair envy, spearheaded the movement back in the 90’s, with her iconic edges gloriously laid to the heavens! Honestly, I can’t think of anyone who predates Chilli’s look.

Whoever inspired her has inspired the masses, including one FKA Twig, a millennial who’s version of the slickity-slick swirls have produced a wave of widespread baby-hair love.

Even Kim Kardashian has confessed her regret of having her baby hair laser removed. ‘My forehead had all these little baby hairs, and I would always break out because of them,’ the 35-year-old wrote.

‘Every photographer would Photoshop them out anyway, and I thought I looked better without the baby hairs, but now I miss them [sic].’ Perhaps her nostalgia has resurfaced since seeing how lovely they are on her daughter, North.
