What you want to grow a mullet? What what are you thinking, man, it's kind of like lame of you? Isn'T it, or at least that's what they say, I'm Eric van Hoek with beardbrand - and I am here to tell you the mistakes to avoid when you decide to grow that Kentucky waterfall. Everyone has an opinion about the more I think they're dope. I'Ve talked about this. For the past year about how the molds coming back into style, I write to kind of like a average sized mullet over the past year or so, and then, let's see, maybe it's coming back a little bit. I think the mullet for 2020 or for the time period we're currently in there's a lot different than the molt. You know in the past. The mole everyone thinks about is the whole Joe Dirt mole. You know that like really long, long back part and then kind of like the fluffed up top - and it just looks hideous sorry - let's be real. Those mullets are hideous, yes, they're a mullet, but that's not necessarily the mullet that I'm encouraging guys to try to explore. Now the first thing you need to know about being the dude to grow mole. It is. Are you willing to handle comments, the criticisms that come around with the mullet? I mean, let's pause, this video scroll down to the comments and start reading them. I bet you like: half of them are people just like getting their panties completely in a wad about a haircut. They just can't handle it. The idea of a mullet being cool is something that just blows their mind. They have no way comprehending it and you're, probably that dude who's, like you know what I've had a fade for so long. I'Ve had you know like the hi, I'm tired I've done the buzz cut. I'Ve done it all. I need a little bit of change. I need a little bit of variety. Well, you, my friend, are in luck because the mullet is now an option. Now I want to do a little bit of self congratulatory, pat myself on the back, because if you remember back in November of 2018, I did a video that said the mullet is back and here's. Why and now. If we look at Google trance that you see that for years flat as can be, and then what in December of 2018, you notice something it's going up, man who called it this guy, so all y'all naysayers who are hating on me back in 2018. Well, what you got to say for yourself now, the mullets back now, here's the deal like the mullet is actually it's a really cool style. Now, let's just break it down to what it is. It'S a little bit shorter up front, really short on the sides and longer in the back now, there's different iterations of that. How long you go with each? How long upfront are you going? How long in the back? Are you going how long on the sides you're going all those can be tweaked and adjusted? In my opinion, you keep it relatively short and kind of like the medium length, hair style. Now I'm talking medium length is going to be. I don't know maybe like one to two inches in the back and maybe about like one inch on the side and then anything from like you know. Skin fade up to like a two guard fade. It is going to be this safe zone of Mullins. If you're a little afraid of testing your mullet, what I recommend is kind of like a go-between hairstyle that can kind of get it really like dip your toe into the world of moats, and I'm talking about like the mohawk or a war hawk or whatever masculine Name, you have our hair style, that's essentially a mullet. Now a war hawk or a mohawk is essentially going to be longer up top longer on the back, but generally the length is going to be about the same in the back as it is up top and then it's just the varying lengths that you have. That can play to the difference styles and then you're gon na have like a little bit of shortness here, a little bit of it can either be disconnected or it could be faded and blended up to the top. Now I want to show you personally, my favorite mullet style yeah, see that yeah now that's a cool looking style that photo I was taking right after I got done cutting by cha Chi Becker, one of the greatest mullet barbers stylists in the world. If you're in Portland Oregon, you want a mullet head to chachi he's got to take you you're, taking care. Now, speaking of barbers, I want to tell you the next biggest mistake: people are making is you're gone the wrong barber? Now, let's be real, not all barbers are created equal, not all barbers have guys coming into their chairs and, like yo bro hook me up with a bowl, look yeah, believe it or not. There'S some people out there who never get asked to do a mole. So what I highly recommend you do is, if you're looking to get a mullet scroll through that Instagram keep on scrolling. If you don't see any kind of mullet on there just skip the barber find a barber who's got some experience doing them all the reason. Why is the mullet is actually a surprisingly technical hairstyle? It takes a lot of different techniques and skills like the first one, if you got a little bit longer hair a little bit longer here up top, I do some scissoring, but that's not what we're talking about here. We'Re talking about a haircut, get your minds out of the gutter. Come on boys get with me. The other thing you got anything about is they're they're fade in your sides, so they got to have like clipper work. They got to have skills with that, and then they got to have a vision to where everything can kind of blend together, like not just blend from bottom to top, but we're blending from face to back of the head all right man, that's a pretty weird thing And not all the barbers got the skills to do that. Do your research make sure you find a barber who can handle mullets and then also try to find a mullet inspiration right, find a style that works for you or doesn't work for you again. There'S a lot of variety of the more you can do like the Jerry, Garcia, Jerry Seinfeld. You knew the Jerry Seinfeld mullet from like the 90s. I mean that's pretty much longer, all over a little bit shorter up top and just your typical, safe playing it safe. Mullet but again it's not a style and not a lot of people are Iraq, and so by this point in the video you're, like Eric Eric. What am I doing with my life? I'M just sitting here watching some guy talking about a haircut and yeah. Unfortunately, my hair left me many years ago, and I am just left bald well finding that there is an option for you now you're going bald. I always recommend shorts the way to go. If you want to play it safe, embrace your baldness, but the beauty, the absolute beauty of the mullet, is it works for guys who are balding up top now. What am I talking about? I'M talking about the skull and the skull is probably like one of the most famous hairstyles in population. It'S been printed millions and millions of time on pieces of material. You know what I'm talking about. I'M talking about yeah all right. Let'S pull it out boom see that mr. Ben Franklin yeah he's rocking a skullet, so a skull. It is going to be pretty much your heads gone up. Yeah, I think, can't grow anything up here right and then you, you have a little bit of fade on the side and then you start growing it in the back now in terms of a modern skull, you know who rocks it? Well, our very own. The hatch check out some of his most recent videos that we've done with him and you'll notice that he's rocking the skull. So you got a little bit of link there again we're not going crazy. Like Ben Franklin went okay, we're keeping it tame and we've got a really nice fade to go with it, but that little bit of hair kind of brings some character back. I mean you lost your hair and you're. Like am I going to spend the rest of my life with bald bald head, just shaving it? Well, you don't have to now here's the thing with the mullet. You can't just rock a mullet and have your like frumpy our cargo pants you're like chinos or you're, like baggy, dad jeans and your New Balance. Tattoos and you're, like you, know, Nordstrom checkered, plain button-up shirt, a mullet or a skullet. They need to be paired with a style that can work and harmony with it. So you need to be a little more aggressive with your attire so either. That means something like me, a little more moto, a little more edgy tire, fitting jeans or means you like totally dig into the vintage aspect to start wearing something like bright neons. Some vintage look get yourself some pit, viper sunglasses and really like dig into kind of like that retro look. Those are really going to be the only ways that you can pull off a mullet right now now. If the mullet continues to go more and more mainstream, then eventually, maybe you can just rock a mullet like your ordinary dad would be doing back in the 80s or 90s. So the final thing you want to think about with your mullet and making sure that you're able to pull it off to its fullest is the facial hair, see you're on this channel beardbrand you're? Probably in luck right lucky, you can grow a little bit fish there, whether be the mustache, whether it be a full beard, whether it be just like a little bit of scruff rock in a little bit of facial hair, will totally like separate that mullet from that. Like creepy redneck, trailer-trash kind of red, you know mullet that we're trying to avoid and take you into that cooler. You know modern, more fashion-forward type of mullet that allows you to get noticed in the club's. If that's what you're going for or to really make a statement in the coffee shops, so you guys saw that previous mullet cut by chachi. Well, I did another one. I did another cut and we actually recorded that video here's a little bit of b-roll by chachi and with this mullet style I went with Lost Boys inspiration, so that look was a little bit longer and it was all blown up and back and down so, whereas The first option was kind of like a little bit shorter, a little bit more quick style, a little bit more messy in the back. This one was a little bit more straight, a little bit fat. So, with the mullet you have a ton of different, looks and styles, you can pull off to really add a a wide range of dynamic. Looks to your inventory of let's be blunt here, your inventory of Awesomeness give them all of the look. It'S a cool hairstyle. I don't care what anybody says, especially if you do your due diligence, you find one. That'S rad, that's modern! That'S hip! That'S 2020. Are you rocking them all? Let me know in the comments. There'S always thanks for watching Cheers. Keep on growing, just checking out my money. I don't I don't want to lose this money, you know dude, you want simplicity, grab the styling bomb, it's designed for your hair and your beard. It will give ass and finish with a medium hold. No, it's not a conditioning product. It'S a styling product, styling balm over at beardbrand, calm,

The Modest Man: I’d rock this hairstyle for sure

Strapping Young Ladam: Eric out here brining the 80s back with the mullet mustache combo.

Ryan Cascardo: Love the style you’ve chosen to go with your mullet - the chevron stache and the cool, edgy clothes - awesome combo bro

Mikaela Slaveykova: The mullet looks sick man I've been trying out new hairstyles and this one looks sick. Keep up the good work the haters have no sence of style

Vonz: Straight up, as always. A good thing. Thank You for telling what type of clothes go with a hair cut. The second photo of your hair cut, I didn't know was called a Mullet. That was cool. Mullet why? Your mustache is looking good. Thank You for sharing.

Akhil: I've said this before, but the fade plus mullet style is fire on you

Johnny B: When you're over your Joe Dirt inspired experiment, gotta start letting it all grow out like Greg. That's a style that's coming in, unique to every person sporting it, and would suit you well too. Who only wants the party in the back anyways?!?lol Really though - enjoy the content and glad you guys try different things. I'd bet instead of a fade, if you can somehow get a taper on the sides going into the mullet, that'd look good too - especially if top/back get longer.

Scott Young: Did a similar style for a few years but worked in a feauxhawk with it. Really loved it, might go back to it soon!

Dan C Bearded: 1) I am on the mullet path, for attempt #2. Hoping I make it longer this time. "Murder City Mud Flap", "810 Flow", "Kalamazoo Curtain", "Detroit Dangle". I love the comments and I am ready! 2) You have in Stone Mason, don't you?

Elpidio Villarreal: Everyone in Mexico had that hairstyle like 8 years ago. I had it and this video is making me want to get it again.

Luke Churchman: I need some advice... I've decided to grow out my beard for the first time. Im only 18, but my sides and chin are coming in great. My mustache on the other hand not so much. Im pretty sure that it is all still vellus hair because its blonde and the rest of my beard is red. The hairs, however, are continuing to get longer and are at 3cm and they are starting to have a strawberry blonde tint. Can anyone tell me what exactly is going on?
