Journey To Waist Length - Four Simple Rules

The name of the hair game for me is almost always Keep It Simple! My journey to waist length hair will not be achieved if I have to practice anything complicated. I have watched and observed many of my own hair crushes and they have one thing in common is they are creatures of simplicity and their hair has thanked them for it.

The start of my simple journey began when I decided to learn what is best for my strands rather than emulate the routines of other curlies. That does not mean that I no longer learn from the experiences of others, but it means that I truly listen to my hair, find out its likes and dislikes based on what I have learned so far.

In Jamaica, they have a term called ‘waggonist’, and it is used in a fairly negative way but that can be changed fairly easily because there are some bandwagons that have helped me retain my length and that will ultimately lead to my goal

▶︎ Co-washing- This means only using a conditioner to wash my hair eliminating the shampoo. I cannot begin to tell you how beneficial this has been for my hair. She literally grows like a weed especially if I co wash every day. My co wash regimen is often done daily especially with daily workouts and my hair is normally banded after my wash to keep it stretched and tangle free.

▶︎ Deep Conditioning*/Pre Poo. For me this provides an extra boost in moisture or protein depending on what my hair asks for. I do not buy fancy deep conditioning* products because normally I can find something in my kitchen that does the trick.

▶︎ Sealing. Recently I jumped back on the grease bandwagon, and I have no idea why I jumped off in the first place, but let’s not cry over spilled milk. I do not grease my scalp but I do add grease to my hair after moisturizing with a water based/cream based leave-in. On my scalp I will use regular oils* such as coconut oil*, safflower oil or simple olive oil*.

▶︎ Solid diet. This is necessary for overall health and hair growth starts on the inside, feeding my hair by maintaining a healthy diet can only help with attaining my goals.

I have kept this regimen for a solid 3 months and I have no regrets, the simplicity and the benefits I have seen have me convinced that I am on the right track.
