While for some of us laying our edges is a quick 2-minute job that you can do on autopilot and have the results last all day, for many more of us, it can become a frustrating process that takes more time that it’s worth. This is usually because of a lack of the right information on how to get your edges sleek an easy and frustration free process. I will share with you the 3 most important tips below:
1. Use The Right Product For Your Hair Type
So we’ve all seen it on youtube or on the gram. The girl uses a touch of shea butter* with a squirt of water and effortlessly lays her edges creating pretty swirls that last all day. Yet when you try it, it just doesn’t work. Some of us are simply not able to get away with water and butter method because our hair type is much curlier.
Knowing what works for your hair is the biggest tip that I can give to getting edges that lay perfectly in place. You will be surprised to learn that this does not always include gels, even the super hold kind. This is simply because you are very likely to see residue and/or flakes when reapplying gel to your hairline.
2. Scarf It
This is a point that is glossed over by many women creating tutorial videos for taming edges. If you have a curlier hair texture, your style will need some time to allow it to set before you can unleash your smooth frizz free edges to the world without them instantly reverting. This means that straight after smoothing the product to your edges and brushing them into place, you will have to tie a scarf around your hairline and wait for the product to completely dry and your style to set.
