Putting Relaxer On Your Eyelashes?

When I first saw the title of this video pop on on YouTube I automatically assumed it was a joke. Surely it would turn out to be a parody video created by one of my favorite vloggers? But alas as it turns out, it is dead serious.

It’s probably best to start by saying that eyelash perming is actually quite a popular practice. It is done in specialist salons where women with straight eyelashes go in to add a bit of curl to them. It’s particularly popular in Japan.

African American ladies are now relaxing their curly eyelashes in order to lengthen and straighten them. YouTuber NetworkDellMelove says that she does this because her eyelashes are “super curly”.

Essentially she applies Vaseline on her eyelids to protect them then uses a toothpick to apply the relaxer allowing it to sit in her lashes for 10 minutes or so. She then wipes off the relaxer off with a piece of tissue after which she washes her face.

Another YouTuber LuvNside also relaxes her eyelashes following a very similar process. Unlike the brave lady above, she has turned off the comments on that particular YouTube video.

With this post I initially wanted to do a point by point analysis of why in the world anyone would want to do this to themselves regardless of how curly your eyelashes are but after being rendered speechless I decided not to bother.

Truthfully I can’t see it becoming a popular practice for obvious reasons (I assume everybody enjoys their gift of sight) so I will leave it up to you to make up your own mind.
