Halo Updo Protective Style - Crown Braid Tutorial

It’s been raining all day today and according to my weather app, the rain should continue for the rest of the week so what better time like the present to wear a cute protective style.

This halo hair style otherwise known as a crown braid is demonstrated by the ever beautiful Shinestruck in the video below. We love this style because not only is it great on time, just under 5 minutes it is absolutely great for a rainy day and is the perfect cross between laid back and professional.

Shinestruck did her braid on stretched out or blown out natural hair, but you can absolutely achieve it on textured, wet, or relaxed hair with ease.

Before attempting the braid make sure your hair is thoroughly moisturized, using any water based leave in you have in your arsenal. A few suggestions would be Giovanni Direct Leave in conditioner, or if you prefer something with a little hold, Shea moisture Curl Enhancing smoothie would work just as well.

After you moisturize smooth your hair with something as simple as a light oil or you can get fancy and use something Carol’s Daughter Macadamia Hold and Control Smoother to keep those tresses obedient.

How To

Part your hair on your good side and literally do a flat twist all the way around your head, smoothing as you go along to tame any fly aways. Once you get to the end, just tuck the ends in discretely into the already made braid adding bobby pins* as you see fit and you are done.

Don’t forget to add some lovely adornments if you want to take your hair from casual to elegant, we found some crystal rhinestone hairpins that are great for braids and really not too expensive, that would look amazing in this style.
