Quick Chunky Havana Twists

Chunky Havana Twists

I think one of the main reasons I never do braids or any kind of twist protective styles often is because of the time it takes to get the style done. I did 7 hours once when I was transitioning and I am not afraid to say that I will never ever sit that long in one place ever again.

Ambrosia’s video is the perfect example of getting a style done for the purposes of protecting your hair without all the fuss. Chunky Havana twists are kind of like chunky dreads but not really *smile* they are an awesome protective style option and if you want to do something quick without sitting down for hours, then this might just be the style for you.

In the video Ambrosia decided she wanted to twist the braids loosely which has its advantages and disadvantages. The first advantage is of how natural it looks and how little stress she is putting on her edges. The disadvantage is that the style might not last very long because your hair gets looser over time.

Other advantages of keeping things quick and chunky, is that its cheap, marley hair is inexpensive anyway, but you really do use less hair if you are working with large sections. Additionally it blends well with thick natural hair, which is a huge plus if you do not feel like wearing a million small twists when you have very thick hair to deal with.

As usual caring for your actual hair in the type of style is super easy because you can get to your scalp easily, all you need is an applicator bottle* to work with. Before you do your twists however, make sure your wash and condition your hair thoroughly and seal well so that the style can last a few days without you having to re-wet the hair.
