5 Naturalistas You Should Definitely Subscribe To On YouTube

5 Naturalistas You Should Subscribe To On YouTube

YouTube can be a wealth of information for a woman thinking about going natural, a newly natural or even a natural veteran. There must be thousands of videos on hair, makeup and Naturalistas giving their views on natural hair along with tips or techniques to do everything to your hair humanly possible. If you don’t know where to look it can be quite overwhelming and a little confusing.

I’m not going to lie…I hated YouTube at first. Well, maybe not hated but didn’t like watching videos. Back when I went natural quite a few years ago the videos weren’t as dazzling with editing programs and pretty music like they are now.

There also was a lot of rambling and my impatient self would get antsy until I just gave up on it all together. I also hate long videos and some are almost 30 minutes to an hour and I just don’t have that kind of time!

Fast forward to the present and we are seeing a lot more professionally done videos that are short, sweet and to the point. My kind of video is where the YouTuber is taking this seriously and she edits and allows us to only see just the important parts and I love it now.

Although I STILL don’t like long videos but have upped my subbing from about two or three to thirty-four (you read that right) within a few months when I finally decided to check it out again.

I have a few that I check out regularly and always seem to love their videos and I’m not going to lie…they are the ones who use the editing programs, have great music and give all pertinent information within a few minutes. They also have pretty pictures and do tricks with the camera that you see on TV that hold my interest. Yes, I’m easily bored so this is perfect for me.

So here are my favorite 5 Naturalist’s in no particular order. It was hard to just pick 5 but I’m sure if you don’t already subscribe to them, by the end of this post you will!

Alicia James

Tagline: The Easy Way to Grow Long Natural Hair

I really like Alicia James because she showed us how she went from a TWA to waist length hair. That’s not my favorite thing about her nor my reason for sharing because not everyone is length driven.

She tries lots of styles and gives easy instructions along with doing the talk-over. She is a master with the how-to and I truly appreciate that. She also has a blog and she tackles common challenges that many naturals face like working out with straight hair and how to’s on transitioning.

Between her YouTube channel and her blog you are offered a wealth of info that’s valuable and relevant to wherever you are in your journey.

Franchesca (chescalocs) is hilarious! I love her and found out about her like most people did on wildly funny video, “Sh*t White Girls Say…to Black Girls” (SWGSTBG).” It garnered over 1.5 million views in 24 hours and 5 million views in just 5 days. It also made a lot of white girls cry.

SWGSTBG currently has over 10 million views and has been featured on MSNBC, ABC, The Daily Mail and the Anderson Cooper talk show, to name a few. She’s an almost 30 actress, comedian, graphic designer and vlogger now based out of New York City.

Franchesca is much more than a funny lady. She’s full of knowledge on locs and she’s so creative with her styles! If you have locs then you should be watching her on the regular getting all the cute, sexy, haute styles she comes up with constantly.

She’s all about making her tutorials easy and short so even if you feel you can’t master some of those complicated styles she ends up with you would be surprised.

My Natural Sistas

My Natural Sistas are three biological sisters, India, Toni and Lynette, who are taking natural hair and YouTube by storm. These three sisters are beautiful and talented when it comes to natural hair and makeup.

Their editing skills are to admired and I wonder who’s the brains behind them because they have some SERIOUS skills! They have different tastes and hair lengths so their channel has a lot of videos to offer on styles and hair education.

Two of the sisters have TWAs so there are several videos for the short haired natural. They each have their own channel so their main channel is a great resource to find what’s going on elsewhere. They give you step by step instructions and have to-the-point short videos. Gotta love that!

Stephanie Lee (Beauty By Lee) is a makeup artist and a darned good one at that. I love her channel for her makeup tutorials along with her beautiful natural hair. She does more makeup videos than natural hair ones but she makes up for it with great details throughout her hair videos.

She’s an educator and just as she explains each method in her makeup tutorials she does the same with her natural hair videos. Again, I love the fact that most of her natural hair videos are not long and she manages to get the main points across while educating on the style from start to finish.

Tagline: Natural hair with flair!

MahoganyCurls, or Jess has been documenting her natural hair journey through YouTube for years. She started with a TWA and has allowed us to see her grow her hair and style it in the most beautiful ways possible.

I think she’s tried EVERY natural hairstyle around and has it on her channel. Her hair tutorials are nicely done with professional editing and she explains what she’s doing and what she’s using in each video. The tutorial and product review videos are short and sweet so that’s a serious plus.
