Betty Bangs And A High Bun Tutorial On Natural Hair

Betty Bangs And A High Bun

Retro or vintage hair styles are probably the coolest kinds of styles you can rock when trying to get out of a style rut, they are great on old or stretched hair.

Retro hair is kind of an ode to hairstyles that were popular before our time, whatever time that might be. So If you are a seventies baby like me, I might do something from that era or from 1950’s etc.

Ahfro Baang shared her YouTube video with us the other day and we thought her Betty bangs were totally cute and definitely a must share.

Of course before sharing the awesome tutorial we wouldn’t be BHI if we did not have some tips on how you can achieve your perfect vintage style, so here goes:

Google Inspiration – Honestly the styles are all pretty simple, and if you need inspiration, don’t be afraid to look back into history a bit and just Google (or Bing or Yahoo) “hairstyles from the 1950’s” or whatever era you want to take a look at. Check out the images online and pick something you like.

Movie Inspiration – Don’t you just love old black and white movies? The plots are often pretty tame with an moral lesson, but forget all that. Have you ever really taken in the fashion and the hair in those films? Next time you see one, take a look at how women historically styled there hair in all kinds of movies, famous ones and the not so famous ones. You may be surprised to see a few that you could totally pull off today.

Call everything ‘Vintage’ – Vintage styles are so amazing because you literally cannot mess them up! You can roll and tuck any pieces of hair that don’t look quite right, high bun or pin up the rest, call the style vintage and be just fine! Just let your creativity rule and make sure you have plenty of bobby pins* handy.

YouTube Inspiration – The haven for the best bathroom tutorials on the planet, just type in the era or the style and see what YouTube spits out! As a matter of fact let us start you off with one… watch this!
