Burning Off Split Ends With Fire?

burn

Who needs a regular trim every three to six months when you can just light your hair on fire! This is a real procedure y’all, I am so not kidding, it is very common in Brazil and considered ‘normal’.

While this is Blackhairinformation.com and that is clearly a white girl in the video, some things we just cannot pass up. Now I consider myself to be culturally diverse and we do some ‘extreme’ things, to our hair too right? We might go bald on occasion, color our hair green or blue, we might even use a chemical to straighten our hair every now and again.

But I think I draw the line at fire! I wish a female would light a medieval candle and put it against my head in the name of split ends? Just trim my hair please, if you don’t get them all I will come back, or maybe I will just keep them, but please no open flames in the salon.

Well I did a little research to see what others thought of this out of this world phenomenon and celeb stylist Josue Perez who takes care of the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Sarah Jessica Parker and Cameron Diaz, had something to say:

“I would not recommend this procedure to anyone,”

……. Ya think!?

“Although the Brazilian stylists claim to use this as a method to get rid of split ends, it would only dry out the hair even more. Burning hair at such a high temperature will completely dry out the hair, leaving the ends stripped of moisture.”

Ooooooooooor you might say it may set you entire head on fire causing for a lawsuit that would probably cost the salon owner millions and millions of dollars. But hey that’s me!

Perez on the other hand was slightly less dramatic and recommended the following:

“Many women will go to any length to avoid the scissors and cutting length. So instead of taking such a drastic measure, you could ask your stylist to cut your hair when it’s dry so that the stylist can clearly see the difference between the split, dead ends and your healthy hair, and ensure to only polish off the unwanted dead ends.”

You know like regular folks….. SMH

What do you ladies think of this technique?
