Don’t you just love a great essay? I first read this post on Curly Nikki and thought it was a must share for us as well. Jessica reads us a story about her own desire to have princess hair and how she teaches her 3 year old what real beauty is. I thought her story was so amazing because we are responsible as mom’s, sisters, aunts, grandma’s, teachers to teach our girls how beautiful and precious they are.

I had princess hair too, I loved it because it was long and if I got it to attach just right I could get it into a ponytail just like the ones I saw on TV. My princess hair was a towel, I am not kidding, literally I made a towel with some sort of head band don’t even ask me how I did it but I did. What was most important was my mindset.

I remember being so happy and just euphoric in my own imagination, wanting so badly to be a Disney Princess or that girl that just had really long straight hair. I never knew to love my hair, of course you know the story right? How many times have you heard the same thing over and over again?

In order to get our girls to understand their own beauty it is important for us to tell them over and over again how beautiful they are and that they already have “princess hair”.

It would help if Disney Princesses looked more like our girls, but we are working on that and we cant expect that Disney will raise our children so self confidence starts at home.

We have often explored the idea that for us to send the right message we have to live and walk the message too. This is pretty controversial as you can see in this post, but I stand by my opinion that if you want your little girl to appreciate her natural hair, you have to be natural too.
