Natural Remedies For Cradle Cap

I wish I had this video when I had my son because his cradle cap was a huge issue for us, I was afraid to shampoo his hair with harsh shampoos I wanted to remain as natural as I could and I never once thought to use a tooth brush. I was waiting for this video to be uploaded by Girlsloveyourcurls so that I could share if because I know how many questions we get about babies and hair care and how confusing things can get.

Cradle cap is a skin condition that affects babies in the first three months of life. It is caused from high levels of hormones transferred from mom to baby leading to high production of sebum and skin cells around the babies hair line and all over the scalp. The video demonstrates a great way to remove cradle cap from your baby’s scalp using oils*, toothbrush, cotton swabs and pads.

Your pediatrician will be very helpful to you if you are not aware of how to get rid of cradle cap, but for me personally the shampoo that was recommended by my pediatrician I just could not wrap my head around using it on my new born baby boy.

At the end of the day you have to do some research too and do whats best for you and your baby, and it is good to have videos like this one to help with the decision making.

One thing is for sure you have to get as much of the flakes out of the babies hair as you can using very gentle techniques and products so that your baby is not exposed to anything too chemically too fast.

My go to oils* for baby are coconut oil* and olive oil* even to this day because they are easily accessible and I use them personally so there is always a stash available. When removing the flakes don’t worry if you do not get them all in one session, it really is a continuous ordeal until it is all removed and you notice little to no flakes in  baby’s hair.

Find an all natural gentle shampoo for baby so that you can wash the hair and remove any excess flakes you are able to lift throughout baby’s head. It is easy for a new mom to panic, Lord knows I did, but just know that cradle cap is not harmful to your baby, he or she is still healthy, this just comes with the territory sometimes.
