The Asymmetrical Afro Tutorial On Short Hair

1a

Who says you have to have a round afro, this style was so darn sexy and easy it deserved a ton of love. The Asymmetrical Afro is basically an uneven fro, created using a slanted part and a bit of simple creativity.

What you will need:

Your fro – This style is done on an altered TWA, meaning the fro is not perfectly round but heavy on the top, low on the sides and back. It helps to have a little shape up so that the style can have a bit of dimension. If you are rocking a TWA and you want to keep it for awhile then add some shape to it, having a little fun never hurt anyone.

A pick – You will need an afro pick even when you do not have a TWA, it is a must for any naturalista so get one if you don’t have one yet

Moisturizer – Carmen used As I am* leave in conditioner* on her freshly co-washed hair, so make sure you have your favorite available

Rat tail comb* and Wide tooth comb* – You want to make sure your part is even and you need to ensure that your hair is fully detangled as shown in the video.

In the video Carmen cowashed her hair and then combed it out using a wide tooth comb* after adding her leave in conditioner*. Once you are satisfied with your detangling, use the rat tail comb* to make a diagonal part combing out the higher portion and patting down the lower portion. Lightly pat the higher portion as well to make sure your hair is even and neat.

Literally you will be patting your hair into shape, with one side much lower than the other for that asymmetrical look. Watch the video to see exactly what I mean, her hair came out amazing and super edgy for something so simple.
