DIY Natural Hair Clip In Extensions With Kanekolon Braiding Hair
Sometimes we may want a little extra length and volume in our natural hair, but we don’t want to go as far as getting a full weave or wig. It can also be difficult finding hair textures that match our own, and the extensions don’t look as realistic. This DIY natural hair clip in extensions method is a cheap and easy alternative to regular clip ins, and the hair will blend better with our own natural hair texture.
What You Will Need:
►One Pack Braiding Hair (Kanekalon)
►Small Bobby Pins*
►Large Cup/Bowl
►Hot Water
►Perm Rods*
►Old Towel
►Binder (or other surface that can hold the bobby pins)
As seen in the video, it’s super easy to make these extensions. Simply take one bobby pin and a small piece of braiding hair. Slip the hair through the bobby pin so that it becomes separated into two pieces.
Slide the bobby pin into the front cover of a binder, notebook, etc (you need something that will have good grip for the next step). Gather the two pieces of braiding hair, and double knot. This will create and secure the extension so that it will not slip out of your hair. Repeat this with as many pieces as you think you will need to achieve your style.
Next, do a two strand twist on each extension and roll with perm rods*. Dip each extension into the bowl filled with hot water. This will set the style, and keep the braiding hair curled. Leave them in for thirty seconds to one minute. Take the extensions out and dump them onto an old towel, where you can blot and dry any excess water. Unravel the perm rods* and take down the twists. You now have natural hair extensions*!
These extensions are great for natural hair because they blend so well. The texture of the hair is almost similar to ours, and the bobby pins* will easily hide the double knot if placed correctly. You can do updos, pinned styles, messy buns, etc.
These natural hair extensions* are also very cost effective, because a pack of Kanekalon hair is about $5 in the store, compared to buying a full set of clip ins, or buying hair and wig clips to create your own clip ins. And since these DIY extensions are individual (one piece/bobby pin), you can add or take out as many as you’d like to create the look you’re going for.
