5 Interesting Styles You Can Create With Marley Hair

If I had to pick one time in my life where I felt super regal and super sexy it would be that time I installed Marley twists. They were gorgeous, and I ensured that they were long so I could have the fliest pony tail on the planet. I must admit I have a bit of an obsession with extensions*, not only is it a great protective style but I love the way they look.

As I developed in my natural journey it was important that I learned how to care my natural hair and become an expert in protective styling because I know the importance of just giving my hair a break from time to time.

My protective style of choice is always some twists or braids of some sort because it keeps the hair detangled, separated and of course I mentioned how super sexy they are.

There are a few choices in extension styles out there, and this is pretty much what this post is about. I only use Marley hair, it is my preference and since it is very popular in the natural hair community we thought it would be the best hair to focus on.

To be honest, Marley hair may be heavily underestimated as a styling tool for natural hair and in my experience not only is it inexpensive but it is very easy  to install. There’s also a large amount of possibilities when using Marley hair, as long as you know how to get creative.

Another cool thing about the extension hair is that the texture is closer to our own natural hair as opposed to something like Kanekalon hair, and makes it look more realistic and what contributes to is huge popularity in the natural hair community.

If you would like to protective styles like I do and you prefer Marley hair but don’t have any idea how to get started, this list can help, check out all the styles on the next couple of pages.

Faux Locs:

Faux locs gained a ton of popularity during the summer months, but that doesn’t mean you can’t continue to wear them in the winter. Begin the process by using extension hair and creating a two strand twist.

Afterwards, take your Marley hair and wrap it around the twist. Repeat this all over your head. Faux locs are a great protective style, especially if you would like to see how you look with locs without the commitment of actually growing them! Faux locs can last you anywhere from a few weeks to a month or two.

Grecian Goddess Braids

Goddess braids are a super simple protective style that shouldn’t take more than ten minutes to install. All you need are a comb, some edge control, and a few pieces of Marley hair.

Part your hair to the side where you want it to lay, brush back your edges, and begin braiding. If you don’t know how to add extension hair while braiding, there are tutorials on Youtube that can help (like this one).

Crochet Braids

Crochet braids are a great (and less stressful) weave* alternative. Braid your hair down and install the Marley hair using a crochet/ latch hook. To give yourself more defined curls, roll the Marley hair into perm or flexi rods* and dip in boiling hot water for fifteen seconds.

Let it dry and set, and you’re done. Crochet braids won’t pull at your hair too much, so you don’t have to worry as much about damage from that.

Havana Twists

Havana twists are gorgeous, and they are best done with Marley hair (trust me- try doing twists with Kanekalon hair and compare!). You can get them done by a professional of your can do them yourself.

There is an invisible root method that blends the extension hair with your natural hair and makes it look more realistic. Havana twists are like faux locs, and you can wear them for a few months.

Updo

If you don’t want your hair down at all, you can also do a bunch of cute updo hairstyles with Marley hair and get really creative with your updo creations. In the photo above, she used edge control, a brush, and Marley hair to get a classy updo.

To make things easier, you can continue to use the rubber band that Marley hair is packaged with. Tuck your ends into a bun and you can protective style with a cute updo for days at a time before having to redo a style.

Marley hair can be bought at the beauty supply store for about $5/pack. It’s cost effective and you can adapt it into any style that you want. This is only a short list I am sure you can think of a ton more, comment below!
