How to Care for Bleached Hair this Winter

0It is disrespectfully cold today, and when it gets that way you wonder if you are doing everything you can to protect your hair especially if you bleached over the summer.

There are no rules any more that say if you have been sporting blonde hair in the warmer months that you have to suddenly ‘go darker’ during the Winter.

If you have decided to keep your blonde hair during the winter time you might be looking for ways to keep your hair healthy as we get through these cold days.

1. Balance Protein And Moisture

Obviously moisture is the key for Winter months, but with bleached hair, you really need both protein and moisture so the balancing act becomes even more critical.

What to do:

Deep condition weekly, on week one, focus on moisture with ingredients like water, honey*, rich oils* and butters* however do not leave out the protein.  Throw in an egg or some coconut* milk for good measure.

On week two focus on protein this means using rich protein based products with a few moisturizing agents for good measure. This way protein is always a component to your deep conditioner* weekly just more so on alternative weeks.

2. Keep heat styles to a minimum

During the winter months many naturals might decide to straighten their hair a bit more often. If you have bleached hair we would suggest keeping heat based styles to a minimum. Practice no heat styles, or roller sets which are much safer than the direct heat of a flat iron*.

3. Give your hair what it needs immediately

Listen to your hair by touching it, exploring it and knowing how it should feel like when it is good and how it should feel when it is bad. When your needs moisture get in the shower and co-wash, so that you can get maximum hydration immediately to your tresses.

Again don’t forget the protein: it helps your hair to retain moisture even more than it would without it. So ensure that you have a conditioner that contains protein to co-wash with along with a pure moisture based co wash to give you that moisture you need.

If you stick to a solid regimen you should be just fine this winter, protect your ends and trim when needed so that yur style stays fresh and you retain length.
