I have been falling in love with wash and go’s lately. I don’t know if it is because I cannot wait for warmer weather or just the ease of being able to do it them especially after a work out. Not to mention I finally found my hair pick so I have been loving the big hair that I get when I use one.

Side note, I know I am not the only one that will change an entire regimen based on a new conditioner or a new tool either lost like my pick was or purchased.

When I first started out with my natural hair, I would literally wash and go daily. These days I do not have time for any such shenanigans, so wash and go’s are done once a week with maintenance throughout the week.

The key to achieving more days out of a style like a wash and go or even if you need a blast of moisture throughout the week because you are rocking a bun, is your refresher spray.

What is a refreshing?

Your night time routine really dictates greatly how much refreshing you need to do the following day. When we sleep our hair might get flat, it might dry out a bit and the curls might lack the structure you are used to.

Bed head isn’t sexy or healthy for your curls, not to mention you cannot go out looking like that, so typically in the morning you will wake your curls up and refresh them with something very moisture based that will allow them to spring right back into shape.

Your refresher product will typically be something water based, where the first ingredient on the product will be water, and you will also have a few ingredients dedicated to moisture and hair health.

Most of us have leave in conditioners that we use daily that are perfect for refreshing, but what if you wanted to make one for yourself.

If you are into DIY and you need a refresher spray for your hair we have 3 easy sprays you can make yourself that you can use weekly.

For all of these recipes you just need your favorite spray bottle to put the contents of each recipe in so grab yours and let’s go.

spray-bottleRecipe 1 – Aloe and Lavender Refresher

What you will need:

1/4 cup Aloe Vera Juice* or Gel

1/2 cup Distilled water

6-8 drops of lavender oil*

Add all of these ingredients to your spray bottle and shake what your momma gave you. Aloe Vera juice or gel is an amazing moisturizer and a perfectly pH balanced product that enhances your curls and makes them naturally shiny. You can choose to use more Aloe than water if you like, I have even sprayed just the juice on my curls from time to time.

Lavender oil* not only smells amazing, but the oil is great for your scalp. As you spray your hair, you will moisturize your hair, and have a little something that nurtures your scalp as well.

Recipe 2 – Shea and Coconut moisturizer

What you will need:

1/2 cup distilled water

1 tablespoon olive oil*

1/2 table spoon raw shea butter*

1 tablespoon coconut milk

This one might be a bit more involved especially in colder weather when the Shea butter* might be a bit harder. You can use shea oil if you like.

Coconut milk is a very healthy protein great for your strands and super moisturizing. I will admit that this recipe while it sounds amazing and is great for your hair, I am not a fan of coconut milk used in this manner.

It is a great recipe, and a must share for those of you who like trying something a bit different daily! I would advise that you either make the recipe as you go along or keep your refresher spray in the fridge which is a great thing either way.

Recipe 3 – Oil, water and conditioner

What you will need:

1/2 cup of distilled water

A few squirts of conditioner

3 table spoons of olive oil*

This recipe is probably the easiest to make of the 3, and is probably the most popular among naturals. I recommend using a cheap conditioner that you probably would not use for co washing, and use enough to make your recipe a little thicker.

The conditioner I use is the V05 Strawberry conditioner, because it smells amazing and does a great job at refreshing my curls.

You can choose any conditioner or oil that you like; V05 is super duper cheap, and you can find a few scents to choose from.

When you use natural ingredients in your refresher spray, like coconut milk or aloe vera juice*, do not forget to leave the mixture in the fridge to keep your ingredients fresh.

Your hair will love the cold mixture anyway, so do not hesitate to spray away; do not allow it to adapt room temperature.
