3 Instances In Your Hair Regimen When You Should Never Use An Afro Pick

Woman with afro pickYou love your pick don’t you? Of course you do, we all do. My Afro pick is in my bathroom draw ready and waiting for me whenever I need that disrespectfully big hair that proves I am the baddest B , woman in town.

Like all hair tools you have to know when it is best to use your pick and when it is causing more harm than good. We want to make sure all of you are very aware of the good the bad and the ugly when it comes to using one of our beloved hair tools. Here are three instances in your hair journey when you should never use your pick:

1. If you have a tangled fro

A true fro will appear detangled and big but sometimes it isn’t. To get that frayed look it helps if the hair is a bit dry and separated and undefined. However in this state it is very easy for your hair to get tangled at the ends which might be good for the look but not good for your hair.

The pick can create tangles because we are so focused on picking out the roots and just patting the ends down for shape that we ignore the fact that the hair is clumping and tangling at the ends. If your hair is tangled, leave the pick alone. As a matter of fact you should avoid wearing a tangled fro, regardless of how good it looks.

2. If you have unmoisturized hair

Never use a pick on hair that is just bone dry with no hint of moisture on it for days. Dry hair is fragile hair and the prongs of the pick will break and snap dry hair right in half!

3. If your hair is breaking

If your hair is breaking already, the last thing you need is any sort of contraptions with teeth like a comb or a pick. You want to get your hair in the best shape you can with the least amount of manipulation.

When your hair is better then you can re-introduce the pick for big healthy hair rather than big breaking hair.
