6 Reasons You Should Include Wigs Into Your Protective Style Regimen

wigsIs that your real hair or a wig? It’s a question I get daily and one of my best kept secrets (except from you guys of course). When I first started my journey, I was completely against wigs, weaves* or anything of that matter that was not my real hair. Of course, the progress of my journey suffered greatly.

Mainly due to my issue with HIMHS (Hands In My Hair Syndrome) – I know I am not the only guilty one. As a result it was breakage galore but I soon came to learn that wearing wigs as a protective style would be my salvation and here is why:

They’re Easy

One of the most amazing things about being a wig* wearer is how easy it is to get started. You simply just plop it on your head and go. Well maybe, not quite that simple.

You still have to take the proper protection measures to keep your own hair from breaking (I.e. wearing a wig cap*). A protective style is meant to protect your hair from the elements and a wig can provide just that. Why make it hard on yourself?

Wearing a wig is as easy as it comes and takes away the hassle of trying to style the darn thing yourself. Life can present you with “99 Problems”, hair should not be one of them.

Convenience

Since wigs provide such ease in terms of wear and styling, you must also take into account the convenience it provides. Waking up 15 minutes before having to be at work is already a scary thing. You have to get showered, dressed, makeup, breakfast…the list goes on.

We all have been there. Unfortunately, none of us are Beyonce and did not “Wake Up Like This”, it takes time to be a diva. The wig* may be the last thing you put on before you fly out the door, but you need that type of convenience when time is of the essence.

Versatility

The versatility a wig provides will leave you thinking, “Why didn’t I try this sooner?” You may feel like pulling off Megan Good  luscious curls on Monday and then shaking things up with a Halle Berry Pixie Cut on Saturday. The possibilities are limitless as the wig industry today provides styles everyone will love.

Are you scared to color your hair ( *ahem, me right here)? Wearing wigs* as a protective style gives you the color you want without the commitment and most importantly without the damage to your hair. Maybe you are a color enthusiast and love to experiment with hair color.

Wearing wigs* also provides a benefit to these ladies as they can dodge the chemical damage and still get the vibrant colors they love. All these options and only two minutes to style, sounds like a winner to me!

Woman saving moneyMoney Saver

Now you may have come across this subheading and wonder, “How in the world is wearing a Brazilian Remy Full Lace gonna save me money? Well thankfully, while the wig* market offers much versatility as styles are concerned, they also have a price point for every budget.

Personally, I wear synthetic wigs* which cost about $20-$30 per unit. I can get good wear out of these for about a month until I decide I want to start over with a fresh one. Having started wearing wigs, I have been able to go longer between wash days and save a lot of dinero by not having to use a lot of product.

For those who are heavy handed with products like I am, you will also see a difference in how much money you are able to save by not buying gallon sizes of conditioner and less frequent visits to the hair salon.

Protection

I believe the protection a wig* provides has to be the best reason it should become a part your protective style regimen. I must testify that my hair would not be where it is today if I had not started protective styling with wigs. Yes, I have done many other protective styles that were cute, yet time consuming.

Also my adult A.D.D. would kick in and I was ready to change a fresh style 3 days later. By no means am I saying wigs* alone will make your hair grow and make it healthy but it does aid in the process of a healthy hair care journey.

No more bad hair days

Lastly, every woman’s dream relaxed, natural, or what have you is to make bad hair days a thing of the past. We have all had our share of attempting cute styles on Youtube that turned out “not so cute” on our own head, and wished to disguise the misfortune.

I have done this too many times to count, as my hair has a mind of its own. A wig as a protective style saves you from having to problem solve any more hair fails and ensures your hair will always be on fleek.
