Good morning really penny you gon na jump in my camera y'all good morning. Welcome back to my channel, i am dog sitting, my dog, yes, dogs and my dog and my dad's other two dogs. So this is one of his penny with her own stuff. Of course, y'all remember a more a more weird there. You go say, hey to the camera more, you still unbox it, and then we got pompe say: hey pompey! Okay! That'S not why y'all here so good morning! Good morning, good morning, i am about to head to my location and go ahead and get my reti um. It'S been six weeks since my last one um and i'm really excited because today i'm gon na be interviewing. I guess my loctition and answering some questions that i get asked a lot when it comes to my starter locks. So i was like why not let a professional really answer it for you, so i'm super excited to be doing that. It probably won't even be a lengthy video, because i think i only have like eight questions. I think i want to stretch it out to 10.. Maybe i'll come up with two more before i get there, but yeah. That'S what we'll be doing so you know i was gon na wash my hair myself uh but yeah. I just didn't feel like it, so i'm gon na let her wash and just pay the extra fee and just go ahead and let her wash my hair pamper myself today as my off day and let's get to asking some questions. I am still i'm about a week away from, because today is the 10th. Today is march, the 10th so march the 19th. I will be six months long, so i'm a little bit a little bit over a week away from hitting six months of being locked and, of course, i'll do an update then, but i just want to show see y'all like what's going on with this. I don't really feel like. I just have a lot of growth in the front i mean, i guess that's enough. The back is where i feel like baby. The growth is always look at that y'all. Look at it and i don't usually wear my hair up. I'M starting to do it more because now that i'm really working on like i'm working out now and also i'm working on my skin ever since my dermatologist um, not only gave me the stuff from my submarine dermatitis gave a solution for that. She gave me some stuff for my face because my face had been breaking out uh recently, so i've been just trying to keep hair out of my face. Even these little tendrils. I try to keep took behind my ear at times, but yes, so that's what i'll be doing today. So, let's just go ahead and actually get my hey y'all. Welcome back to my channel. I am here with my loctition, daphne, and she has agreed to answer some of y'all burning questions about starter locks, so that, if you are deciding that this is something that you want to do. You'Ll have more information because a lot of times uh me and her talked about it. You know people are just, are not educated on what they need to know about life. A lot of them think it's no maintenance. A lot of them think is like they. Just don't know so we're here to help with our top 10 questions to be answered. So the first question is: what's the difference between sister locks and micro locks? What'S the difference between swiss locks and my glocks sister locks was created by dr joanne cromwell? This is a trademark and branded block um that we use a special tool to create the locks. Um they're also um interlocks so interlocks sister locks, micro locks same thing, micro locks are just a little bit bigger um. This sister locks, the original sister box back in today's sister box, but uh to truth, be told sister locks actually can be installed in three different sizes. So in some cases the micro locks can be larger than system locks, so um. That is the difference. Um, pretty much micro lock is a interlock system. Lock is an interlock, but micro locks can be smaller in some instances. This is the box. Okay, thank you. What do people need to know or do to their hair prior to getting their locks established? Um? Are you asking like before i come to the appointment for the extra appointment well yeah? So how does somebody prepare to get their lots of status like what is something they need to know so what they need to know um? First of all, they have to have hair this. The scalp and hair needs to be in the condition no alopecia um in the crown area, no thinning. I do know you guys see a lot of people that will install people with those issues, but in order to grow a nice and healthy set of locks, your scalp absolutely has to be healthy. First, in order to have nice hair, it doesn't matter if you're losing at your lock or relaxed or whatever you have to have half the scalp healthy scalp is the number one priority. It should be the number one prior origin or for you to have um healthy, locs and healthy hair. You have, you must have a healthy scalp here. It is okay, healthy, scalp, okay, so when they come to the consultation you're able to tell them like what condition their hair is in actually um, i do. I can tell them if they're, if i'm, you know they're eligible for locks, we need an installed lock. Okay, so um, like i said, um previously, if they have to see anything or anything like that, it's not a diff. It'S not a definite note that i would not install bluetooth, certified hair loss, specialist and uh, hopefully practitioner and i offer various um treatment scores: laser uh micro, kneeling um, with growth, serums and stuff like that um um. They it's a possibility that they are um on one of those treatment plans. We can't actually get them where they need to be. They have those locks installed. Okay, come on, she creates a treatment plan individualized for the client. I love that okay y'all, see why i love her okay. So the next question is: what should a typical wash day look like for someone with starter locks and how often should someone wash their hair so a typical wash day for starter locks um? If you have a licensed or knowledgeable location or licensed natural hair, stylist master location, whatever they may call themselves, they should explain to you what you should do with um to keep to mention as your um blocks at home force cleansing. So i teach my clients how to brand invade braid uh break, i'm sorry, braid and band. So raven band is when you simply um braid your locks down to the ends and you take a rubber band and you um make sure you secure the locks that you braided, so your locks will not come down while you're doing it. Your goal is to make sure you're keeping um access to your scalp like this, so all of this will be braided and banded. Your loose ends will be folded and roll in your band. Here, like that, you have to make sure that you have access to your scalp okay. So that's the proper technique of shampooing and cleansing your locs at home, and you do not take down, do not take your braids down until your hair is thoroughly dry. Okay, i love that any type of products they should be using during that wash routine whatever um products that their location, um um. You know children use you prefer that they use okay, good um. What products should someone refrain from using until their locks are fully mature? So it depends um. If you have scalp issues, a lot of people say no oils. No. This know that i don't. I won't tell you that, because if you have uh documented and um, you've been to the doctor or you've been to a trichologist or somewhere and they've told you that you have um dry extra dry scalp, which could be psoriasis dermatitis. Well, any kind of um clinical diagnosis, i would say, and you need oils the different things of it. Like of that nature, i would say absolutely use it because you don't what you don't want to do is walk around here with flakes and everything all of your scaffolding causes build up. If you are on a regular basis, a regular maintenance with your locks, then you don't. You shouldn't have to worry about um cleansing and everything you shouldn't have to worry about cleansing um if you're on a regular schedule: maintenance, okay, good, good, good, okay, so oils are okay um. I remember when i first started coming here: we weren't using conditioner does that change. Now that i'm about to be six months or or do i need to steal weight and not put conditioner on my hair, we always use condition when you come here. Okay, we always use conditioner when you come here. I use i um a therapeutic conditioner and i also use a leave-in, so i would spray a lot of you know your locs and your scalp and stuff and bleeding in because you're going to dry. So you can absolutely use it to do a conditioner on your locs, okay um, but i recommend nothing: creamy: okay, um, a nice leave-in conditioner, okay, nice little leave-in, a spray, leave-in conditioner, a spray yeah. I give it a spray leave-in conditioner, so that is kind of like the one that i'm using now this african pride, one that i might use. Maybe once a week or just after i wash my hair and like when my braids are still in my hair. From my wash day - and i just kind of spray it on top and just let it air dry, so, okay, perfect, let's see so this next one is more of an opinion question which is better the interlocking method or re-twist when it comes to maintaining your starter Locks, it depends on you, it's a personal preference. What that client prefers. So, i would say um. It just depends on your lifestyle as well yeah. So you know if you're a person that works out a lot, i'm going through having night switch or something like that. I would not even recommend you starting with traditional locks, but it absolutely once again just depends on their personal lifestyle and their preference, so we do the interlock method. For my, i love the inner life method because i just feel like the style just lasts longer and, like you said now that i'm working out - and i don't have to really just have to worry about my hair. Looking like i haven't gotten my hair done so. Okay, um should people moisturize their spotter locks? If so, how often the extra hair shaft on the wall? Yes, not not a starbucks, no okay, the only thing you should you would need is to make sure your hair is clean, regular maintenance, and if you have any scalp issues, you will use those products and oils um as directed okay, so no moisturizing, the starter lights. How long do you think it continue to start moisturizing like it depends on the person's hair, texture and um. Lots can take anywhere up to two years, depending on some people lock in three four months six months, some twelve something go past 12 months. It just depends so um, even though you're in an interlocking stage, your locks still go through direct. The normal part of the processes of the um of the locking stage maturity, the baby stage. You know, um, you it's you and it goes up every level to ensure. So it doesn't matter about the interlocking interlocks just helps you um to be able to do more things versus um, a traditional law. Okay, you kind of uh answered another question that we're going to get to on average. How long does it take someone's lots to mature? So you say it could take about a year to two years, depending on the hairstyle six months, depending on your hair texture, like four four eight before b4c the four series here it would. It normally takes about six months girl six months, and i okay, that's why i was like look my lawn sister um. Her locks are mature. She said it just took her about a year and i'm, like i said baby. I don't see me in one year having it here: okay, it's based on the texture here. Uh, let's see how often should someone re-twist or re-tie their hair for maintenance, so it depends on the lifestyle and once again rash. The farm means that all their roots grow out and they're into the really spiritual journey of what locks is originally about. They don't actually twitch their locks, you'll see them with the locks on the end and the roots, probably this long so um but regular maintenance. I would say with traditional locks should be probably um every four weeks with traditional logs, if you're, really on your journey, trying to maintain, keep the dimensions up and everything four weeks. Some people go six people eight right, but i say my clients. I recommend every four mm-hmm um with me with interlocking it just depends. I have several systems that i work with my sister. I have my own beauty locks. I have a no grid, um, a no grid, um lock and the base looking over four from four every four to six weeks, uh up to like once every quarter it depends on which ones that you chose to go with, because i do have different ones right. Okay, i know i i think the six weeks for me has been better because i just feel like my hair doesn't grow like that long um. So usually, even when we, when i come every six weeks recently, i feel like we still get done in a a good amount of time like we never go over. It'S only explaining this. So when you see people saying your arranging schedules, every four to six weeks, a lot of people say that's what you're seeing my hair doesn't grow and this is dead in the other. But you have to take a consideration. You pay the more you pay is the longer you stay away, the more you're going to pay, because what we look at is if your regulation is four to six weeks and you coming in 10, 12 weeks, um or eight nine weeks, that's more time on your Retirement so right a lot of them and you find i found that a lot of locations in a lot of different um salons out here there are services on for two hours right you get to you, get exactly what you book right, if they're not done with Your hair two hours, then you're getting up. You got ta reboot, so you have to really be. You need to really stay on your on your schedule. Right and um. Here is, if you go past your your um, regular maintenance, then it's an additional per week that you missed. I mean that you're off schedule right, so i just prefer that people, you know at least for between four and six weeks, is what i recommend for my people that has um any type of video log or on interlock right. Okay, thank you for that. I know some extra information that's going to be helpful for anyone. That'S deciding to get life make sure that you're able to stay on schedule. That will also mean making sure that you set aside money for you know being able to keep up with the schedule. I think sometimes people don't realize like if you go to a location like you're paying for a service, and if you can't afford it, then you need to learn how to sell retail and just naturally or don't get lost like this is not right right and a Lot of people think it is they get it. I didn't know how it was gon na be like this. You know i had clients right there too, and it's really. You have to really you know in research before you just jump out there and do it because it is um another experience. I agree. I agree um for people who struggle with dry itchy flaky scalp. What products should they use to decrease those symptoms? I can't i would say this, i do i i do customize treatments here. I do not recommend. I can't recommend anything over the counter, because i don't use anything over the counter, but there are products out there. I would say you can research it for whatever you have going on with your scalp, but i also my products are customized to my clients that have those issues, so i can't really recommend anything um like that. That'S over the counter, but dermatologists once again or you just self research, you know just researching with different products on the way up right, i agree um. I think you guys just find the right products for you like when i first started my live journey. I was using witch hazel on my scalp to kind of help with that itchiness, but then, when i started using the rose water with glycerin spray that just helps so much and i feel like it just suits my scalp better and because, with the witch hazel i Just feel like it just got a little dry, it started it helped in the moment, but then it just got really dry. If you use hazel, you have to go back and use it right right right on your scalp, not your hair right! So put the oil on your scalp, not your hair got it all right. Last but not least, for our commonly asked questions. How do you come back? Frizz in your life? You don't freeze you, don't you don't. Freeze is a stage you're gon na have frizziness and everything some people have frizziness throughout the duration of their long journey because of their hair texture, you don't. It is an absolutely a stage. Something'S, just gon na have more freeze than others, and you should be mastering your locks at least once a year anyway, block room at least once a year. What does live? Grooming mean uh when you go in and whatever loose hairs after it's really done when you're your locks are mature, so you go in and you uh it's not a session. It'S not a grooming session or a repair session. You simply just go in and all those loose hairs and everything that you see. That'S on your lock, some say: frizziness um you go in and have those locks you put those place, those locks inside the actual chef of the lot mm-hmm, what a soul? Okay! Well. Virginia McQuillan: Very informative video! I am 6 weeks into my micro loc journey, and I’m loving it! Did she say that you shouldn’t moisturize your starter locs??? I oil my scalp 3 times weekly, and I use distilled water, aloe Vera juice and rose water in my spray bottle. Is that something I should stop??

hersheybang: Thanks for this video! She didn't answer the 2nd part to the question about how often to wash the locs...

Latrina Lenae: Great video!

D. Campbell: Honestly your face looks amazing..
