If you have a wig that you love, but the color is just too warm or too yellow like this one, keep watching for a super, easy method of toning, your yellow, wigs hi, i'm christine and i'm on a campaign to make wig wearing more mainstream. So we can express ourselves. However, we want without people looking at a sideways just because we're wearing a wig for practical tips on choosing and wearing wigs wig reviews, as well as a little creative inspiration. Please subscribe to my channel hit the like button and hit the notification bell, so you don't miss a video now i have a very cool skin tone. I know that because when i look at the inside of my wrists, my veins are blue. If your veins are green, you probably have a warmer skin tone, but if you want some more in-depth videos on figuring out what your undertone is, i've listed some in the description box below some people with cool skin tones feel just fine wearing warmer colors. But i like my hair to be as cool and ashy as i can possibly get it. The problem is that most hair colors are warm. Most blondes are warm even if they're just slightly warm or what they call a creamy blonde or a honey blonde. It'S still got some yellow in it now this is modern curls by tressalore in the color. 24. 102. R12. I love this wig and i reviewed it already and i will link that review down below, but even in that review i said i know this. Color is too yellow for me now i could put up with a color - that's not quite right, but for what i paid for this wig and, more importantly, how much i love it. I want it to be absolutely perfect. Luckily, there's an easy fix for a blonde wig. That'S too yellow it's a mixture of isopropyl, rubbing alcohol with some purple acrylic ink dye, and why purple you may ask: well it's all about color theory: uh, the opposite of a color on the color wheel will neutralize it. And so, if you look at a color wheel, you have purple on one side and yellow on the other. So even if you had a wig that was too purple if you wanted to neutralize it, you'd put yellow in so. If i have a blonde, that's too yellow i just put a little bit of purple in. I have done this method on lots and lots of wigs. The most important thing to remember is that you cannot make a wig lighter. You can only make it darker and the final color you get will depend on both the original color of the wig and how weak or strong the dye mixture is meaning how much dye you have in there compared to alcohol. Now. I personally only use this method on rooted, wigs partially because i love rooted wigs and, i think they're more natural looking, but practically because the ink will dye the cap as well. So if you have a non-rooted platinum, you don't want a purple wig cap. Now i don't have an exact ratio of ink to alcohol, because every wig is different and every wig the fibers are different and the shade of blonde is different. So really you're just going to have to try start with a very, very weak mixture and see how it affects your wig. Now i am doing this on a tressler, but if you've never done this, please do not do it on an expensive, favorite wig. I suggest getting an inexpensive wig where you can test it out. First, i usually use paula young's. I can get those for about fifty dollars until you get the hang of it. So let's go off to the kitchen. Pour your rubbing alcohol in a bowl. I usually use 16 ounces for a short wig and 32 ounces for a longer one, and the ink i use is daler rowney fw, acrylic water resistant artists ink that's a long name in velvet violet. I use this shade specifically because it's a true purple, not too red and not too blue, so it will counteract the yellow best. In fact, i use so much of it. I order it in bulk. To start, i just put a few drops of ink in my alcohol. If i'm toning, a platinum, wig, that's too yellow, sometimes a few drops is all i need. I mix it around a little bit then dip the wig in very gently making sure all the hair fibers are covered and saturated, and then i very gently and slowly squeeze out the alcohol it's important to squeeze out the alcohol in order to see the true color. If you just pull the wig out of the alcohol without squeezing it, you see, it looks really purple. But when you squeeze all that excess out, you can see what the color actually looks like, which is just slightly ashier than it was before. The change on this platinum wig is so subtle that the camera might not be able to pick it up, but it will make a difference once it's dry and on my head, depending on how light the wig is an alcohol bath with just a few drops of Purple ink is all i need, but if you squeeze it out and let it dry and it still hasn't neutralized the yellow enough, you can do the same process again, because each time you do it more of the purple will deposit on the hair just make sure To let it dry between baths when you've gotten the color, you want just gently, bring the wig out and then gently to get the extra moisture out. I roll it up in a towel and then put it on a styrofoam head to dry and, as i said, if after it dries, it's still too yellow just do the process again after you have the color you want and it's dry. You may find that the hair fibers are just a little bit crunchy, but this is just dried residue on the wig, so all you have to do is wash it the way. You'D wash your wig regularly. I use fabric softener uh, very gently, let it dry and it'll be super silky soft again. Okay, here is the final version of the toned wig um. I hope you can see the difference. Sometimes these differences are kind of subtle, so i'll see. If you can see just by looking at that, and if you can't tell by looking at the color itself, maybe you can tell about how it looks against my skin. It'S definitely much less yellow and i also really like the way this method preserves the low lights and highlights of the colors, because if you can see the what was platinum is still platinum, what was a medium is still medium and the dark roots are still dark. So it preserves that dimension, while still toning, the wig. Now as someone who likes ashier blondes, i use this technique a lot. In fact, i just toned four wigs this morning, but just to reiterate a couple really important things. First of all, you cannot make something lighter. You can only make it darker and the final color will depend on the original color of the wig, combined with the strength or weakness of your alcohol ink bath and also - and this is very important - use a weak solution. That means less ink compared to alcohol and see what that gives you, and if you don't get the yellow gone as much as you wanted after it dries do it again, but still with a weak solution, because what you toned, the first time will still be toned. So the second time you'll just get it that much ashier, but after it dries, you cannot take the color out. So just be careful and i have wigs, i sometimes have to do two or three times before i get the ash tone that i want also do not try this on an expensive wig before you've tried it on an inexpensive wig. Like i said, i use poly young wigs to experiment on because i can pick one up for about fifty dollars compared to the minimum 100 to 150 you're going to pay for a medical grade wig, and once you get good enough at it, you can go on To your better wigs, do you have a different method? You use to tone, yellow wigs. If you do, let me know in the comments below or if you end up trying this method. Let me know how it turns out for more content like this. Please subscribe to. peppys25: I want to let you and your subscribers know that following your directions, it worked perfectly on an Ellen Wille wig! It took the brassy yellow out of the wig for me and now it is just perfect! I used the dye and alcohol just as you suggested and "Voila!" Rinse, wash and now it is perfect. Thanks again.

Janette Carrell: The color turned out so beautiful!! I’m a ashy wig person myself. Thank you for this awesome review!!

Jonatan August: You explain yourself really well and lots of great tips and info. Thank you!

Liz's Locks: Wow, this is amazing and I didn’t know it could be done. Like you, I prefer a cooler shade of blonde and unfortunately many of my wigs are too yellow. I’m definitely going to try this method. Thanks for a great instructional video!!! Just subscribed!

Beth Stevens: This is amazing! I would’ve never thought that would work. I too love the ashier shades and they are harder to find for sure. I just happen to have a Paula Young wig that is too yellow so I’m going to give this a try!

Sandra Taylor: I’m so looking forward to trying out this method to tone down my too yellow wigs. I also prefer the ashy blonde color. Great review, thanks so much.

Meeka Cat: Thank you for sharing this technique. Beautiful!

Kathy Weissgerber: I just tried a product called gentian violet with 3 of my older wigs that were a "bronde" brunette/ gold color and it toned down the gold to an ashy color and I like it much better.

Liz Millner: THIS INFORMATION IS INVALUABLE!!! Thank you so much for sharing as I have a couple of wigs that I am going to experiment with this weekend! You are so easy to watch and understand....I love it.

cherylwiglover: Great job! The color looks so much better after. I was going to use Genetian Violet (an antiseptic) that's inexpensive and is in alcohol. However, my wig that needs this cost $300+. Thanks for the suggestion to try this on an inexpensive wig first. You just saved my bacon! Hmm, what cute inexpensive wig can I practice on? You probably seen CysterWig's Felix. I bet you'd look great in that one if you haven't tried it already. I tried it in Harlow Blond R and it surprised me how cute it looks. The rooting looks much redder on camera than it is IRL. Thanks for your channel!

Valli S: GENIUS! I'll be trying this method. Thank you

Deb Hall: Shazam!! This is incredible...Thanks for sharing. I've been using Roux Fanci-ful rinse in White Minx but it washes out so really unable to reapply to enhance the outcome. You are so thorough and I really enjoyed watching your video. Thanks again for you generosity!

Kat Howard: I just noticed my top piece has a yellow tone to it, and it really doesn't flatter my skin tone. I'm so excited to learn that I can tone the yellow down and plan on trying it. Thank you so much for the video.

Jeannie Deal: Cannot wait to try this!! Thank you. You mention using warm water when washing your wigs. I thought sticking with cold was important but I guess not. This worked SO well on the wig you demonstrated on! Also, what wig are you wearing in your little round picture for your channel? Did you dye it yourself? LOVE the style and color on you!

Rabatzo Ratzofatzo: Hi there Christine, I found your channel when researching with styles for round faces. I got the information I needed, but this video is the holy grail! Just one thing before I can do it myself: well this dye the lace front? I would really appreciate your comment. Thank you for sharing your valuable experience with us! Steffi

Tamara Wigs Out: Very nice! Going to use this method on some of my wigs.

Shirley Ahern: Thanks your technique works very well and your explanation is very helpful

Henrietta Lazo: Thank you. Very well said and shown. Amazing!

Keri Stevenson: Hello! Thank you for this- what alcohol % did you use? Wondering if it matters…

Emmi B: I CAN see the difference!!! I’m shocked right now!! This is nothing short of genius!! Super informative. Thank you so much!

Kimberly Espinoza: Wow!! It looks amazing!!

Patty Carosi: I just came across your channel this was just what I needed to find. So do you rince it after you do this or not? Thank you

Denise Sheets: Love this! I have a yellow blonde wig I'm going to be toning and am going to use Genetian Violet but curious about this approach if that doesn't work.

Philippa Le Bas: Do you rinse out the fabric softener after soaking the wig in it? Many thanks for such helpful tips x

Bette Davis Eyes: This is such a good video. Just subbed. Will have to try this out on some wigs when I can get up the nerve!

Diane Harrish: Wow, really impressed, Thank you!

Sandra Taylor: Thanks for the great way to get the yellow out of a wig. I am trying to find the Velvet Violet color by Daler Rowney and so far no luck on Amazon. They do have it in Purple Lake though. Would that work? Or is there some other place I can get Velvet Violet? I’m very anxious to try your method.

Jan Cummings: I am so glad I found this video. This technique might save a wig that I had written off. On a very pale blonde, would you recommend the violet ink as opposed to black ink? I don’t want purple or pink hair. Thank you.

Cathy Teixeira: Wow you could totally tell! Great tip!!!

Elizabeth Currie: I have the Razor Shag in the same blonde and the colour was always too yellow. Can’t wait to fix it!!

MichelePearl: Came out great!

Barbara Hart: Wow. So glad I found you. More videos please.

susan carter: Unbelieveble! Perfect! Wow!

Who piddled on your post toasties: Huge difference, this is exciting. I'm asking but think I know the answer...can't do a lace front wig because the lace will be dyed purple? New sub. Great content. Valerie

Linda Anglisano: Cosplay people use this type of dye method for coloring white wigs to vibrant colors. I used this method on a Noriko Angelica wig to wear to festivals. In my experience, subtle is the goal, a gentle bath is the best. When you leave these alcohol and inks on too long it will dry out the wig. It didn't matter for my old wig. I got lots of compliments on the wig. But it dryed it out, and was no longer silky to run my fingers through. Don't use a stronger alcohol, that is what will dry it out. I'm going to try out this method to just cover some yellow hues. Thanks for the vid

Maryann Towndsend: You are brave to do this. I’m getting better with ordering my blonde wigs after 4 yrs of wid wearing.

Joni Bonnette: First off you are stunning. Your skin, everything, just beautiful. Now I am a pro in the hair field but retired. I never learned about wigs. I was trying to find what to do because I just bought 3 of the wigs go for it by Raquel Welch. I wind up with the wrong color and way to yellow. I like you am very cool. I need to try and do this. It could open up a whole new world for me if this works. Or should I say I do a good job. This is mono and lace front. But because it is rooted maybe I can just bring it up to the roots and leave it. This would most likely dye the lace right. Otherwise I will wear it out and pretend I look great, lol, who cares I'm in my 60s.

Linda Zaffke: Very nice, thanks!

Lisa Marie: Yes it is much more ash. Very pretty!!

B Inbody: Very helpful thanks

Theresa Carmen: I have a gray wigthat looks platinum. As soon as I build up my nerve, I will give it a try.

Janette Carrell: Christine, would you be able to put a link where you can buy the ink? Also, the original color of this wig. Thank you!

Donna and Joe Cragin: I would like to try this. I have a standard cap wig with a lace front. How does it affect the lace front? Thanks.

Anne Belair: This wig seems to be heat friendly fibers, could we do the same thing on regular synthetic fibers? Thank you so much.

C G: Can you use bluing that is made for clothing? Same concept. Also, how is alcohol okay for synthetic fibers? They say not to use hair products with alcohol on synthetic wigs. Thank you!

Jan Cummings: I recently bought a PY wig, style is Dance, but I chose the wrong blonde rooted color. The blonde is almost a white against a very dark, almost black root. I prefer dark blondes/lt brown shades to an almost sandy blonde. Would I use a drop or two to tone down the white, and a few extra drops to make it a light grey shade? Honestly, I can’t tell if I’m a warm or cool shade. My veins are not very visible. They might show a more greenish tone, but I still don’t know what all that means. Thx in advance for your advice.

Joyce Bokman: It did change the color! What do you do with fabric softener? Beautiful wig on you!

Chris Boyd: This is great info! What do you mean about fabric softener, like how much and why?

Sandra Taylor: If you want to repeat the toning, can you reuse the original alcohol ink solution or do you make a new batch?

Ashley: Do you know if this can be done on HD fibre wigs?

Pam Avery: I have done this too as well as gentian violet. The GV can fade out with multiple washings so seems less permanent. I have also used a colored dry shampoo - Batiste in the deep brunette shade - to tone it down and it takes on a bit more of beige appearance. The dry shampoo easily washes out so it gives you some options!

Christine McGraw: Do you have a process you use to tone blond wigs? Please ask me any questions you have about this method? And let me know if you try it?

Kim: I have an ash blonde wig that I need to warm up the tone. Can you suggest something for that? Thank you!

Joyce Mayo: Great job. I purchased an expensive wig that is too yellow for my skin tone but it’s not rooted. Any ideas.

julie moses: Does the ink shampoo out eventually?

Come To The Art Table with Victoria Grace: What percentage of alcohol do you use?

Michele Simpson: Incredible

BoMiSo Satori: I have light olive skintone with green veins. put me in ANYTHING warm ad I look like a umpalumpa , my skin becomes grellow and my hair looks greasy its not a good look. the more ashy or creamy beige or neutral a tone can be the better it is. Those super popular red tones from RW are my nightmare. People tell me I look great, but they dont see what the enhancement of cooler tones does to the skin for me and how much more comfortable I feel. Also the warmer tones make me look yellow and people think thats enhancing my tone. its not, its creating a weird hue....Ive worked with skin and hair for 36 years and I know I truly shine in coler tones. AND can get away with some warmer browner tones , specially when I have a tan.....yellow blond is a NO go. Blond colour comes from yellow and brown from red so people struggle with yellow blond and red brunettes :D here in Norway they are allergic to warmth - even if some can get away with it. Still some cant and want ashier tones and cooler browns want. So excited about this video- SOOO good. can you do this with a lacefront? cause Im thinking that would be coloured aswell right? I have a red wig i would love to tone doen the aweful red . This is going on my page : )

Lynn McKenzie: Have you tried this with a Belle Tress wig? They are heat friendly fibers. I am thinking about Bombshell Blond.

Pink Peony: Is your wig synthetic or human hair?
