Hi everyone so in today's video we're gon na be talking about five ways that you can keep your hair wrasse free, and I have many videos on how you can combat brass. I don't think I have ever made a video on five ways to kind of prevent it from happening, so whether you are a blonde or a brunette or even a redhead, you can have unwanted tongues before we get into the video. I do want to clarify that brass is not Orange brass. Is it looks kind of golden looks kind of yellow it's not the perfect blonde, but when hair looks Orange, this is beyond brass. It'S just orange. So today, I'm just gon na be giving you five tips that can help prevent brass and hopefully, in the long run, completely eliminate it alright, so jumping into the first one. If you are light enough, please use a purple shampoo and often times, clients wait till their hair starts to look really brassy, and then they start using a purple shampoo. I like to start using one, maybe two to three shampoos after I've colored or toned my hair and then from then on, I like to use it at least like every other shampoo, alright. So the next point is another thing that I think just doesn't get explained and salons that often - and that is so - you just got your hair, balayage or lightened, and that ball Y is going to let grow up beautifully. So, technically you don't need to get at balayage for say another four to five months. Let'S say that doesn't mean that your toners gon na hold up that long and oftentimes clients think like well. If I come back in four weeks or five weeks, it's going to cost just as much as what I've just had done and that's kind of a lot. So I'll just wait for five months. If the brass does creep up on you and a toning shampoo, isn't working ask your stylist. How often you should be toning, your hair, and how long that toner is going to last. I try and be really really honest and really upfront with my clients, and I tell them what each thing is going to last. It'S not gon na be a balayage appointment, we're not going to be lightening your hair, it's really just a toner refresh. I explained what the price is going to be for that and often times, clients actually relieves they're like oh, I thought I had back for like a full appointment. Alright, so the next one is don't strip your toner or say you. Your hair is looking amazing and it is the exact tone that you want and you just got your hair done. The key here is to prevent that toner from fading. So a key thing is definitely give your hair at least 48 hours after you've, gotten your hair, colored and toned before you, shampoo, your hair at home, and when you do start shampooing, your hair choose this cold water as absolutely possible. That will always be healthier for your hair also use a color, safe, shampoo and yes, color safe shampoos also help keep the color of a toner in your hair as well, and then keep your hair hydrated. The drier the hair is and the more heat you're putting on the hair, if you don't have kind of a barrier between that heat that you're, adding to the hair. Later, with your Hot Tools, you are just leaving the hair way open for all that color to escape, and we definitely don't want that say you have darker hair and you are lightening your hair and you get a color at the root as well as the lightener. Now that is only necessary if you're actually going for a look. That is completely lighter than what you have oftentimes. Clients are actually happy with just the highlight or just the baby light against their natural color and by doing that, you're eliminating the possibility of getting brassy, because normally when you highlight or ball yards once, you get your hair to say about a level 9 or lighter It typically doesn't go back to kind of like a brassy tone. What does get really golden and warm tones is the base color, and the reason for that is because you are lifting the color a little bit and then, with that beautiful ash deposit that you get in the beginning. It looks beautiful, but in a couple of weeks, fades you're left with those really like unnatural and just really warm unwanted tones alright, and that was the final tip so for all you, brunettes, redheads and blondes out there. I hope that this will help maintain the most beautiful tones in your hair and keep those unwanted and I have to stress, unwanted warm tones because one of the first videos I did talking about orange or ugly warm tones in the hair. I got a subscriber that was completely offended, saying that her daughter's hair was orange naturally and that she thought it was really beautiful and I was like whoa, that's not what this video is about. This is in a way saying that one hair color is more beautiful. The other we are definitely talking about unwanted warm tones in the hair, obviously - and I'm assuming that, if you clicked on this video, it's because you have unwanted warm tones that you want to correct. So I hope this video is helpful and I hope that you are breast free, alright guys. Thank you so much for watching. I love you and I'll see you in the next one bye,

ArtLuver: I just had my hair - whole head - done platinum because the "brassy" snuck up on my hair. Perfect timing, Sylvia, (for me anyway) on keeping my current color from getting brassy. Thanks!!.

Daniela: I was at a level 9 and just went down to a level seven and had a root smudge done on my highlights. It's given my hair life again lol. Thanks for the tips on maintaining my hair. Sure helped between salon appointments :)

Lindsay Rivera: I explain this almost everyday!! I do a lot of clients that want that beige ash and they don’t realize how much maintenance it really takes.. it’s very frustrating haha they think it’s a color when it’s just a tone maintenance is key!

Summer S: I love your channel! I got screwed by stylists before my fav girl moved moved away. Its super hard to get the right person to know what someone who knows you for years wants and likes dont get me wrong im open to new products. Now days with the lockdown my roots have grown insanely long and dark. I love the BLONDE always have lol but cant seem to find a toner anywhere to get that baby chick yellow out of my hair. Is there anything you might suggest that i havent used yet??

Marie. Elaine: I have natural level 5-6 hair. I had my hair in a balayage/ombré style and wanted the blonde to compliment/go with my natural hair color. I used the Brass Off Purple shampoo twice a week for about 6-7 months and my hair still looked great! I got it done again only because I wanted more blonde pieces and when my stylist saw it she couldn’t believe how well it grew out. I told her I followed all the blonde hair rules I know (thanks to her and you)! lol

Euridice Fdez: Thanks for all your videos! They all help a ton. I'm glad you made this point of refreshing toner. I got jipped by my hair dresser for two years it is insane. They charged me a full appointment when all I needed was a toner refresh.

Priscilla Nieto: Great video! Can you do a video explaining the difference between Blue and Purple shampoo? I know purple shampoo is to tone out yellow and blue is to tone out brassy, orange tones but many people don't understand this. Great references for the video would be Matrix's Brass Off and So Silver shampoo.

Stephanie Sinks: I wish I could just have the highlight and leave my natural root but Mother Nature has given me grey hair! So I’ve got to add color at the root too. Side note it took many years to find the perfect blonde process that leaves me without brassy tones. Thankfully my stylist and I have found the sweet spot!! Great video. Thanks!

Kalen McCoy: Love your videos, super informative and always helpful

Sarah Schrodter: If you hair it super brassy after being lightened with bleach, doesn’t that mean that the colour hasn’t been lifted enough and may need to be bleached again to get to your desired level? Purple shampoo and toner can only do so much

Snowball Lee Blue: Thank you so much for taking your time to share this helpful information with us!

Kaitlin Huddle: I’ve watched most of your videos including others. I’ve been a blonde for most of my life and recently had to move and switch hairstylist. My highlights weren’t left in long enough so they were super yellow. She never replied to my text so I tried your hilight with 20v. Just a forewarning it turned my roots and dimension pieces bright orange! Suggesting a 10v??

Andria Wallace: I am going thru the long stressful process of going blonde at home and this video was really useful. I also just watch your 4 point hair cut video to chop the dead off and omg my hair feels ans looks brand new. Really useful information. New subbie here think I'm gonna need you on my road to sustaining blonde hair. After all this work I'm keeping it for a while.

Cindy Joy: I have the Not Your Mother's Blonde Moment hair shampoo which seems to be working really good! I just ordered the blue matrix shampoo and I'm hoping that'll keep my hair from getting brassy. (Just got my balayage done last week, she told me my toner should stay in for about the first four weeks so I'm hoping it'll be fine till I get my blue shampoo!) -great video btw !

Johana Zelaya: Silvia, I have a question, I have been lightening my own hair, this is my 5th time using bleach. I had box dyed level 4 hair and when I first “balayaged” I used 20 dev, which I later realized I should’ve used 30. I have done baby lights and more balayage since, I dye my roots every 4 weeks bc I have a LOT of grays, but my hair never ends up the blonde I want. What am I during wrong? I used redken 9T, 9V and clear and my tone of hair still looks a bit orange/yellow. HELP!!!

Cyn_ M: I went blonde for the first time and I love it, but keeping up w it is such a drag

MSA: What do you suggest for brunette hair with blonde highlights? I get my roots touched up every 6-8 weeks to cover grays and balayage a couple of times a year. I have tried the blue shampoos that are targeted for removing brass from brunette hair but it always leaves my highlights with a teal tinge! Not a good look! Should I just stick to purple shampoos? Will that help take the brass out of my darker roots? Thanks! Love the education I get from your videos!

N Nicole: I’m not blonde but still enjoy blonde related videos! one day I’ll go blonde the healthy way. I tried bleaching by myself and it did not work... one day, one day.

Elishba Imtiaz: On average, how often should we tone our hair after a fresh dye?

Ayla Denv: Hask’s blue chamomile shampoo and conditioner for blonde hair is the best toning shampoo that is gentle enough for everyday use. That I’ve found my hair looks so much better after I use it, it’s not gonna make it silky smooth but it does soften it enough. I’m naturally very very chestnut/ mahogany and get very brassy. It’s not harsh like purple shampoo no sulfates, paribens, etc. many benefits you can get it at Walmart, HEB, Walgreens, etc.

JAYE R: I luv your vids, Silvia.! What about the water temp when washing out the dye from your hair? Many often use hot, some cold. Also, some stylists have told me not to use colored shampoos and conditioners as it will mess with your intended base color when it comes to recoloring. your thoughts? Do clarifying or chelating shampoos strip color (too much)? Or is it just me and my hard-to-cover gray? Should we use them at all with colored hair?

Aixza: Hi hun! I am looking for an ashy brown for a person with about 30-60 gray. I find that Shades eq fades really quickly on the grays. Any advice? Permanent vs. semi or demi?

aggie white: Hi Ellebangs and everyone else here. I’ve bleached my hair (roots touch up with olaplex and I’ve got warm roots now. How long I should wait before next re-bleaching? I think I will use only 4% peroxide because I need only slight lift 1 or maybe 1/2 tone up. Thank you for any answers.

Lindsey Swihart: Fanola No Yellow shampoo is the best purple shampoo I have ever used hands down . it does not dry your hair out and it can even make you silver if u leave it on lont enough. 11 on Amazon. Incredibly!!!!

Aimee Smith: Fanola no yellow shampoo is a GODSENT. It ashes out so well and gets rid of brass so easily

lena kwon: do you apply purple shampoo on dry hair or wet? also, do you recommend any brands?

Elishba Imtiaz: How often do you recommend toning hair after a fresh colour?

Iva Muzevic: Your short hair tips videos are my fav! I was just wondering does applying coconut oil on recently highlighted/blonde hair could cause brassiness?

Ella V: Thank you for this video! My hair is very brassy atm, I am getting my highlights done next weekend but I’ve never used purple shampoo in my life - I am scared that because my hair is super lightened already , the purple shampoo will make my hair completely white or grey! Can you please advise? Someone told me I can mix purple shampoo with regular shampoo , but even that I haven’t tried yet... Also, not sure which brand purple shampoo is good, I can’t spend too much money since the highlights are already so expensive Please advise! Thank you!

R.R: I just got airtouch highlights done so i try to use all these tips, to prolong that beautiful silver ash tone x

Jaclyn Pickering: I was using HDR (before it got discontinued) 8.4+8.3 so my hair is copper. Is it possible to be as beautiful blonde as you are?! I’m not sure if my hair is at its healthiest state yet to start the process of going an icy vanilla blonde; but is it reality for me?! Xx

Gina Reynolds: Thanks for the tips on brassy hair, however I really need to know about HOW to match your natural hair color. I was heavy blond for years, decided a few years ago to go back to my natural color which is what stylist call a dark blond and it DID NOT have red tones. I do have a lot of gray now because I'm my fifties but still trying to look as young as possible. So, when I get my hair colored, it has red tones. It looks red to me. I hate it!! If I can't get it right, I may as well go blond again. Should I use an Ashe color and risk GREEN? Should I go with the palest shade of light Ashe or neutral brown? PLEASE, PLEASE give me some advice. I know it would be hard to because you don't know me and can't see my hair but I'm asking your professional opinion,or anyones opinion who is a professional stylist. I'm desperate

Janet Marczyk: Love all your tips!!

Manuela Michelin: VERY helpful!!! Thank you!

Ros with 1 s: Thanks for the tips

racheleli: Hi I recently had bayalage done, and I really like the distribution. But I asked for chocalety browns, and instead my hair came out looking more on the orangey side that you were talking about. I have really dark hair, and still want that chocolatey brown. Would the better option be to use this blue shampoo/toner or to redye my hair to a brown myself. I was wondering if that would affect the bayalage in any way. Any help would be appreciated!

Lynn Rose: Hi Sylvia, Happy Saturday! :) I always learn so many things from you.

Crystal Steproe: Love your tips, thank you

Willow Eve: So what was the final tip? Don’t use a base tone and just highlight against your natural hair colour?

Susan Jacobson: I have been coloring my hair at home for 20 plus years, always, always pulling red and brassy tones and I personally cannot stand any red in my hair. There's nothing about gold, red and brassy tones that I like, and that's all I pull. (Red and gold tones are beautiful, just not for me) Every once in awhile I went to a salon and I would tell the stylist "I'm going to pull red you've got to bleach my hair or whatever it is you have to do. I felt like they were looking right through me as if they didn't understand what I was saying because I always left the salon with the red and brassy tones. I knew there was a way to do it, I knew it and then I found you! You're amazing! No one has ever explained it the way you explain it and I am now brass free doing it myself. Thank you! I'm actually working on it right now. It has takin me a few extra steps but I believe I have found the color that I have always wanted and I have you to thank. I haven't tried it yet but I believe it's the one (6na + 8na)...

Ashley Caplette: I wish you would include your top 3 product when you talk about these kind of hair issues

Shannon Wilmot: What’s the best shampoo and conditioner to get for first time balayage?

Rachael Cloud: So how do you get the base color light after you lighten the first time? You said for darker hair what gets the warm golden color after applying the ash tone and a couple weeks it starts going to unwanted warm tones.. is there a way to get the base not to do that? Or do I have to go back every few weeks to get rid of those unwanted warm tones? Dark hair level 2n/3n trying to do a blonde/ash tone balayage. Wanna keep my roots dark

Dolly De Leon: My hair will only last the beautiful color I’ve been wanting for as long as I don’t wash it, even at the first wash the cooper tone immediately comes out specially at the crown of my hair. I’ve been to several stylist from the most expensive to the most popular stylist and no one until this day has gotten it right ☹️

Svetlana: That’s really great tips, i have very blonde hair and on summer time I don’t like it done it’s just my preference but I’ll go back for a toner appt

Susan Craigo: I have to color my base due to graying, but always end up brassy 2 weeks after color. What can I do if I have to color base to avoid brassiness. I already use a color safe shampoo/conditioner

Farrah Klaassen: Hi! I have a balayage with a warm beige blonde toner and it makes me look very pale, which made me think I actually have cool undertones. So ashy is what I want to go for. Is silver shampoo going to help me with this?

skymb: So helpful!

Teets Tessa: U are amazing! I can see why you get negative comments...u are saving us, girl by girl! Not all of us can afford a salon..do the mishaps happen! And u...are a saviour!! Bless ya! Uve saved my hair..and I love it more than I ever have. And ive paid big bucks!

Sabrina Stovall: Omg I needed this video !!! ❤️❤️❤️

Gina B: Thank you, that was very helpful

gizela_alex: Are silver shampoos and other salon products better for your hair? I purchased a Farcom silver shampoo ( I don't know if you are aware of the company, you may be) and a conditioner for dry damaged hair cause I think that's what I need. I didn't only buy the silver shampoo to prevent yellow tones but also under the belief that my hair are gonna be smoother using something like that, than using a drugstore shampoo. Am I right??

hstunkel7: So how to we get rid of that brassy tone from our “leftover” hair that is not at a level 9 or 10? It’s around 7 or 8.

Elizabeth Dillon: Still trying to figure this out. I dyed my hair with red tint awhile ago. So now it is a red orange brassy color. My natural hair is a cool medium ash brown hair, like level 4-5ish. I want accomplish getting orange out to a ashy color instead. What do I do?

Jennifer Garcia: How often should I go to the salon for a root touch up and balayage touch ? A month or two?

Viki Merjos: Hi thank you for your video on your last tip about coloring your roots what can you do to prevent that going brassy?

Angel's World 17: Do you do low lights before or after a toner?

Kumokun Domo: No toners in Japan. I've been trying to find a salon and not exactly getting what I want . But got a light Ash brown recently and I'll be sure to wash my hair with cold water. Thanks

S Vogel: It’s a shame as I only found your video after I had my full head foil done. My hairdresser didn’t tell me I should wash my hair at home after 48 hrs. I washed it on the following day. I’m planning to go back to do retouch of new growth in 8 weeks. I used to leave it for 11 weeks and found that the new growth is about 5 cm and they almost charge me with a higher cost. Plus my natural hair colour is dark. Can I use purple shampoo every day? I thought I would alternate it with normal shampoo, but it’s got sulfate which will undo the toning. Can you please recommend the shampoo which is sulfate free? Thanks.

A•Ortiz: Ive tried several different toners and they barely do anything to my hair. And any difference thats noticable seems to fade within a week. What can i do to make them work like normal?

*Tess *: Just binging hairstylist videos because my hairstylist messed up my hair, dyed it to a completely different color (warm brown),and on my whole hair while i only asked her to match my lighter dyed hair to my own (light ash-blonde) color. Then denied it by saying it'd fade and i should have been clearer on what i wanted, blaming it on me. Refusing to explain so i could prevent it in the future saying 'i wouldn' t understand because i didn't study to be a hairstylist'. So far i haven't heard anything that i should've done differently.. Does anyone have any tips?

mooner Lyn: Hi ElleBangs!!! Could you please help me.... I want to neutralize my brassy hair by using EQ shades. Which shade do you recommend? Mixing with peroxide 10??? Thanks in advance

Nicqui Madden: Great video - my problem with purple shampoo is that it is VERY drying on my hair. Can you suggest a good brand? Which brand do you use on your hair? Thank you!

Eunice Reyes: 2 Questions: is it ok to use 20 Vol with a level 8 blond hair color? What Vol is ok to use for toning (or is there a special prompter for toners)?

Sil.br: What about ginger hair? When I dye my hair they look or too red or after a couple of wash they start to become blondish, not what I really want and I cannot find so many infos around about how to keep the ginger shade. Any suggestions?

Strawberry Milk Subs: How long does ash blonde stay ash when done by a professional? I want ombre hair, with ash brown roots and mid section that fades to ash blonde. Does toner stay or have to use it regularly??

Jazmin Moreno: My hair is like yours but lighter it’s starting to get brassy my roots are darker and I need help toning it? What products can I use?

Aus tralia: great video! what’s your best recommended purple shampoo shampoo/toner you would reccomend?

mikaela medina: love your videos ! Thank you

Helen Boula: Have you ever tried silver drops I know that helps especially if you just doing your roots if your hair was blond

Cess Solz: So how long can you leave the purple shampoo on to remove the yellowish brassy color as a result from hair dye light ash blonde on a level 7/8 hair color...

Candy M: I love the way your hair came out beautiful .I dye my hair black I like the hair to be black even when the Sun Shines on it where it has more of a gray or shiny look instead of an undertone. what is your recommendation for me to tone down the brassiness when the Black fades it turns red orange and I don't like those tones. Do you recommend any type of formula that I could use even that gloss but a shade that is for people that dye their hair black. Thanks

Snuglebuny1978 DeGroot: Thanks soo much my stylist doesn’t tell me these things

Leslie Ann: Yessss I needed this video right now!!!!

YB E: Natural redheads are completely different than the orange you get when you bleach, as well as brassy. Natural redheads are blessed with that color.

Melanie White: Should I use the Oleoplex 3 first and then purple shampoo with purple conditioner that comes with it? And/or for the next time I shampoo and condition my hair may I use a shampoo/conditioner for colored hair? One more question (sorry) Is it safe to mix the purple shampoo with let’s say Oleoplex Shampoo or any shampoo for colored hair? Thank you and your tutorials have saved me now probably 1000.00 or more! No shit Sherlock! Since I was 18 I had been going top salons! Jess Moradel: What if my hair looks like an warm brown ish highlights can I use purple shampoo to lighten up the warm tones in my hair?

Karen j Kamps Kamps: Hello Ellabangs, I had bad experience at the local Ulta beauty salon, I went in blonde came out gold

Tara Evans: Which purple shampoo do you recommend? I'm in the uk but if I'm able to get online I will order, I used to use the prevoke one but it's so drying and I switched to the Charles Worthington colourplex ultra Violet toning shampoo it's not drying and smells lovely but I would like a professional opinion on it? It turns the bathroom and hands purple if left too long it's so potent have to bleach the bath after

pandie: Any diy tips that work to remove green tint on blonde hair? I think I over toned :/

Paulina C: What blue shampoo would you recommend?

OWild1Child: Is it crazy that I prefer more of the brassy tones than the silver tons? Maybe it's the Leo in me... I like the look on guys and girls -- the gold, reddish, blonde tones rather than the silver, bluish gray tones...?

Lavinia: I have tried multiple brands of hair color from Loreal to Wella and Schwartzkopf and I always get to yellowish. I tried from color 7 to 9 (during 7 years of hair coloring). It is like there is something in my natural hair color who makes any blond to appear yelowish. Im european and have basically middle brown hair and brown eyes. I was hopping maybe there is a solution or something I can mix with the color. Last time I used Loreal Excelence nr 8/middle blond. I like the color but once again its to yellow. I cant wear platin blond, it doesnt look good on me but I dont want that warm yellow either. Anyone can suggest what to mix with the color so I dont get so yellow? I look for cool colors but from some reason they come so warm on me.
