Hey guys, I did it. I finally tried rad curls, so today I am going to show you how to create authentic, Victorian style curls. Although this method was used all throughout history, it's a very old method, very effective, as you can see, rad curling. What you're going to need a rags? I just use one of Roberts old t-shirts. I used six six rags in my hair to create these curls and you want these rags to be approximately twice as long as your hair, but it's okay. If there are a little bit shorter, you can get away with that. It also depends on the thickness of your hair. A little bit. You can use an old sheets that you cut up really doesn't matter as long as they are long. In your lease thick strips of fabric, then you're going to divide your hair into. However, many rags you have that many portions you're going to divide your hair into so I had six rags, I'm going to divide my hair into six portions and then I like to just put all the rest of my hair away, so that I only have that One piece of hair and then I spray that with a little bit of water until it's damp hair sets in a curl the best onee to damp, and then it dries up that is kind of how this method worked. Then I take the rag I clip it to the top of my head just to move it there and then it's time to start wrapping your hair around the rag. Now, when you do this, you want to make sure that your hair is absolutely flat and that you maintain this throughout your wrapping, and that is what's going to make that really nice spiral curl so just wrap your hair around the rack very carefully and then, when You reach the end of your hair you're, going to take the rest of the rag spread it out and then you're going to wrap this back up around the hair. That'S around the rag so make sure to wrap this in the same direction that you wrap. The hair in this is going to help your ends curl around the rag, a little bit better and just enforce that shape in general, and also wrapping your hair in this rag. It'S going to help protect your curl while you sleep in these rag things and make sure it doesn't get loose or become frizzy or anything like that. So wrap your rag back up around your hair and then you're going to release the top of your rag and just tie a knot in this, and this is one iraq girl dunnan's is going to make one spiral curl. So then you just want to do the rest of your hair in the exact same way so spray with a little bit of water. Twist, your hair around the rag just to rag around your hair back up and then tie and melt, and then, when I've done all six of these, it looks a little bit like this. So then I slept on this. I had this in for hours and I was in hours and hours. I filmed that little clip somewhere in the afternoon, and I only just took it out. It was morning now, the next day, yeah really the longer you leave this in the better. It'S going to be the longer your curls will last all right so sleeping on these I'm going to be completely honest with you. It wasn't completely comfortable. It was nice and comfortable sleeping in the straw, girls, which was absolutely horrible. I could sleep in these. I didn't have a problem falling asleep or anything, but it wasn't comfortable. I was sleeping with my face on these thick rag things. Maybe if you start the crews a little bit lower on your head, you won't get that problem. I don't know I found them a little bit uncomfortable to sleep in, but it wasn't too bad, so yeah, while you are sleeping, your hair is going to dry in this shape and kind of set in this curl so the next morning. What you need to do is just take out these rags, so I did that just now, so just untie the knots unwrap the first part of the rag and then just and twist kind of the rag out of your hair. I like to start at the top. It makes it easier that way, then, starting from the bottom, and then you should end up with this beautiful, smooth, perfect spiral curl. I think this is a gorgeous look, it's very authentic historical, but I personally like it a little bit better when it's brushed through just once with a boar bristle brush. It makes it look a little bit softer and it makes it look a little bit more. Like second or third day hair, which is the look, I like a little bit more than these really fight fight and smooth ringlets, so I just brushed all of my curls out individually. First, I spread them out. I divide each coil into two that I would have twelve curls around my head instead of six and then I brushed each curl through with a boar bristle brush, and it just looks a little bit softer a little bit less rigid like these particles. Do I feel when they just come out of the rack, and then it looks like this, so I am very, very happy with these curls. I really like this cooling method. I love that this is what they used to be back in the old days and yeah. It was really easy to do. It is a little bit time-consuming. This is a pretty foolproof method. Your curls should turn out perfect every single time. This is how you make Victorian type ringlets using wrap curls. So I'm going to end the video here guys. I really hope you enjoyed it if you did don't forget to give a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel for more hair tutorials. I was thank you so much for watching, and I will see you very soon in my next video bye

Patricia Hopey: As a Canadian woman 61 years old I often have remembered over the decades my mother putting rags in my hair as a very little girl and as delighted to find your video good for you thank you

yvonne tracey: OMG. I just watched Viv Hair Therapy and she did your tutorial. I didn't think I could do this style with my texture. I love it you both. Thanks

Jess A: Thank you so much for the tutorial. I was the hair director for a Victorian musical and many of my cast members used your method as reference. They did rag curls every night for 14 days straight. Thank you again for being a piece of inspiration!

CultureShock 99: Has anyone ever told you that you look like a doll? Not Barbie but like a porcelain doll. That's a good thing. Absolutely stunning!

AAC 229: This is the most straightforward, helpful tutorial I've seen on no-heat ringlets. Thank you and BTW your accent is amazing :)

Hermione's Symphony: Damn, there was no messing about in this video, straight into the content. I was kinda caught off guard because I'm so used to SUPER long intros from youtubers, but I absolutely love your for it!

Elirien: When I was little, I had very long hair, and for special occasions, my mother would rag curl my hair. It's very effective and you can sleep on them more comfortably than regular curlers.

Makeup Boss: I’d love to try it out on my own. My mom did my hair in rag curls for our susqecentenial , I wore my great aunt’s old party dress - it had a lot of fine lace and bead work. I looked just like her ( she passed away very young in the early 1900’s influenza epidemic. It was kind of eerie in a way when my great aunt Elenor told me how much I looked like Kathleen. ) the rag curls made it look historically accurate. It was an honor and a privilege to wear the dress and have my hair done that way .

Eli Gil: This is the tutorial I have been needing for years ! I have always wanted to get natural looking ringlets with no heat and nothing ever worked for me ! Just now I tried it on dry hair for about 2 hours and even then it worked beautifully! Thank you!

Rose: My Mother used to curl my hair that way. Glad you younger ones are doing it again. You are a beautiful young lady.

Kathryn the Awesome: Wow, I just uploaded a tutorial for rag curls like these on Wednesday; it's like we read each other's minds! I did mine in two layers: one on top of my head and the other low enough not to get between my head and the pillow. It was comfortable to sleep in, but my curls ended up really poofy and not as tidy as yours. I also did a tutorial where I started wrapping the hair from the ends, and I got looser curls that were mainly curly at the bottom. :-)

Zebra Warrior Strong: My mum used to do these every second night . I used to love it and it was an awesome bonding.experience and now I have a daughter who has the most beautiful naturally curly hair. I’ve told her “no straightening or heat styling”

Teresa: Absolutely adorable! I always wondered how they created those perfect curls

Samantha Anastasiou: So pretty. I listen to a lot of 19th century audiobooks lol so this is perfect. I love your look it suits you. Now if only someone could come do this for me it would be so relaxing I’m too lazy !

Charis Li: my mom taught me this when I was 7 and I do this everyday, except my rags are shorter, so I don’t wrap the bottom all the way back to the top. Instead, I tie a knot around the hair at the root, twist around like so and then twist each individual one rag curl into a sort of “cinnamon bun” and tie the ends together. I only use four, so it takes about less than ten minutes once you get used to it, and run my fingers and separate the curls through to create a natural curl look Hope this helps!

Katie Christensen: I've always loved this hairstyle. Ever since I saw a picture of a woman in my social studies text book. I've always wanted to try it but haven't had a reason to lol. They look very cute on you! Thank you for the tutorial :)

Sara Michaels: this is super cool! I love the historical aspect of this!!! thank you for the tutorial! xo, Sara

Isolation Station: Hi thank you so much, my son is playing Pirelli in Sweeney Todd tonight and this was the only way that held a curl in his super long hair! *Also straight to the point thanks for no long talk at the beginning

Marlene O'Connor: AH I am over the moon that you made this video! I always wondered how Mary Pickford got those perfect curls, thanks to you now I know! By the way, have you tried Lotta Body setting lotion? I loooove it for overnight styling like this. But your hair looks naturally way shinier and softer than mine, so probably you don't need it! :)

Madeleine Brandenburg: Thank you so much for the tutorial!!! I have always loved Victorian rag/sausage curls and wanted to try them. I followed this tutorial years ago with my mother, but they didn't turn out as well. I tried to attempt them again now and they are perfect and beautiful. I was able to use them for my regency outfit and it's amazing. Again, thank you!

beepboop: Thank you so much for this video! My grandmother used to do this to us when we were little. By the time I wanted to learn how to do it her hands hurt to much to do it. It's something I want to pass on if I ever have children. I just discovered your channel and I love it! Could you do a tutorial on Helen of Troy?

pap3rwings: I absolutely love ringlet curls! I always had trouble with the ends and wrapping the rag back over the curl when I tried this method in the past.

Maria Padilla: Finally, something cool I can do with my long hair!

SierraRose Przybyla: This is great no-heat curling! (It's best if you do more than one layer ;) )

AkubraBromptonGirl: My mum used to do this with my hair. If you put half of the rag hanging down over your head, wrap the hair around it then wrap the covering part of the rag from top to bottom and tie at the bottom. Then it´s not bumpy to sleep on x

Anne Cain: This video reminded me of my childhood in the 1950’s. My Mum or older sister would put mine and my younger sisters hair in rags on a Saturday night or when there was a special occasion. I notice others have commented that wrapping the opposite way to how you demonstrated gives a more comfortable nights sleep. Of course that also depended on how many rags were put in and how tight they were wrapped. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. Kindest regards.

Sue Mitricka: My grandmother used to curl my aunt's hair in the depression this way. I've been wanting to figure out how to do it. THANK YOU!!!!!

FlyingMonkies325: I think this works better than ANY curling products of today lol it shows how much ppl are ripped off nowadays.

Ariba Manzoor: Thank u so much for trying this method! Please keep trying heatless curling methods and share them with us.

Jeanie Chowdhury: This is amazing! Thank you!! Can’t wait to try

Rachel Little: With this hair style you remind me of a porcelain doll. Thank you so much for the tutorial. I can’t wait to try!

Lorna Kelso: My Mum used to do this on my hair when I was a child. Good memories! Her method was a little different though. She would used smaller rags and roll them up rather than wrap my hair around the rag. It would come out more wavy than ringlet curled.

Denise Moore: It looks adorable you look like a doll my mom had dolls with curls like that

in time: Oooh!! Ok, this is very different from every other rag curl vid on YT that basically starts from the bottom and rolls straight up tot eh scalp. Very nice change of pace!! Can’t wait to try it! Thanks!!!

Momma Dragon: I love it!!! Soooo gorgeous!!!!

G S: I grew up this way 40 years ago. Ringlets for days. Thank you and thank you for getting straight to the point I love it. Sometimes my mother would use wet paper bag strips

Jess A: these curls seem similar to shirley temple curls. I am the hairstylist for a theatre production set in the 1800's and my director wanted these kinds of curls. Since we don't have the time to do no heat styles, I might do this with a 3/4" curling iron.

Okayriel Okayriel: My grandmother did my hair like this as a kid all the time! Super uncomfortable to sleep in but I loved it!

Ivy: I get these naturally when my hair becomes greasy and it annoys me too much but this style looks so beautiful on you

T Fierce: My mother used to do this to my hair, we called it "rolling on rags". My great-grandmother swore it made your hair grow faster (I'm not too sure about this, lol), and you can then wear the curls or brush it out and have very wavy hair. My mom would sit me down and have me hold the end of the rag on top of my head with one hand while she spiraled the rag down and back up, then tied the ends as you did. I think she usually did about six rolls. We never put any products on the hair, just freshly washed and still pretty damp. Rolled it in the evening, and slept on it, then took out the rags the next morning. I have been wanting to do this again but wasn't sure I could do it by myself. After having seen your video, I will have to try it! We always used cotton rags (usually torn from an old pillowcase or sheet), and I think maybe the plain cotton lets your hair dry faster than the stretchy t-shirt material.

Elisabeth Schmidt: Yes! I did it! Ah so excited to see it in the mornings! Thanks a bunch!

Tmslogig: Your hair looks lovely. Great tutorial.

Renata Morgenstern: This is definitely one of my favorite channels here on YouTube. You are just so classy and informative

amy osgood: Thanks for posting! I've always wondered how they curled their hair!!!

Jennifer Harrington: I’ve been looking for this for so long!!! Thank you!

Zara G: Omg this worked so well. Thank u sooo much this saved my hair wreckage and helped me a lot.

Marie: With this method, I suggest to oil your ends especially if they are damaged because your ends will look dry

Alexa S: Try cutting each strip in half length ways to make the knot at the top thinner. My grandmother used to do my hair in those and it was easier to sleep in. Love that you tried it though.

Mary LaFrance: Thanks for the lesson! I go to American Civil War-era events and needed info on how to style my hair the right way. (1860's Victorian)

Jessica S: Love the Victorian music in the background. My hair is quite curly, but thin and responds well to straightening methods; hopefully this works for me. Thanks so much ♥️

Lidia Parker: Where has this technique been all my life? I have the straightest hair in the world and nothing has ever worked so well. This is game changing!

H: I've been curious about these rag curls since I watched a movie 4 years ago. That was SO interesting to learn <3 I might try it as well once I finish my exams :)

Amy Jane Frater: Proving once again - RAG CURLS ARE THE BEST CURLS! Bravo.

Bethany Guerrero: This would have been perfect for Lilian Gish! I was also thinking it would look cool to French twist from the top of your head and then do the rag curl to get those 20s waves into the curls! Thank you for the tutorial!

Elena VS: Thanks for the video! Really helpful

Jonna K: Wow!!! So pretty ❤️

MsMergirl: Love the tutorial! Thank you You have a lovely voice ♡

Emma Love: My mom used to wrap my freshly shampooed hair like that when I was a child (1961-1964). She used an old bed sheet and tore it into long strips.

Amnesi Antoinette: Thank you, This is what I have been looking for my whole life, I just didn’t know it.

Al Mamun Rubel: i have try it and it really works so well. thanks for this.please give more overnight curls videos.

Clarence Marsh: gorgeous curls!!

Noah Durrani: it seems to be very beautiful..loved it

Rebeka Lánská: This is amazing!

Viola Titus: I really love these curls

abi: When I was a bridesmaid this is what the hairdresser did on my hair. It looked so nice but we parted the curls so they weren’t completely defined ringlets

ChristinCe: Tip: when you finished forming your rags, pin them to your head and tie a scarf over your head with the rags under the head scarf. This makes sleeping much easier.

LaShawna Blanton: Awesome. Thanks for sharing. I need to try this

Hannah Golightly: Love it!!

nasty pihu: It works!!!!! Thanks I got many compliments for this hair

hugo w: What lovely hair you have . The ragcurls look excellent .

Nica Teix: I used o do these back in the 90's growing up, my mom would do that rag curl because my hair was so thick it would just be a smoother way to keep them from going wild. Lol I didn't know it was Victorian though, kool!

Best Friend In Your Thread: My grandmother and aunt used to give me rag curls when I as a kid ❤️

Vanessa Eden: Ha ha my mum used this method in the 70s but did not use rags she used torn up strips of JCloth. Great video and your hair looks stunning.

Martha Kalantzi: When i was 14-15 years old, i used to wear this look at school, which is ridiculous, now that i think of it :D i used to make these curls by twirling my hair around my fingers, strand by strand, and tthe spirals lasted for ever, because my hair is naturally wavy/curly. They looked exactly like they do there with the rag method.

Amanda Scott: My mum used to do these on me as a child all the time!

Erika Carrasquillo Curly Hair🌺: Woooooooo! Beautiful

hugo w: Beautiful . What a pleasure to see

coyotewilson: I am 68 and my grandmother would do this to me when I was a single digit child. I had very thick hair down to my knees. They were fun to do and virtually painless. Now I still have very thick hair but I have dreads past my butt now.

Hannah Fagerlie: Thank you! My mom taught me when I was little but forgot

Paige Madeline: I’ve been looking for something intriguing to do with my hair and I think I’ve found itZ

Lila Star: I love the way you show how to do your hair you get straight to the point well done have short hair different lengths can you please show me how to do my hair thankyou Lila

YuniX2: I'm trying this myself today. I don't have a spray bottle though so I ran my hair under water, dried it as much as possible, and am going to leave it on my hair for about 12 hours. Then if it still feels wet I'll blowdry. Fingers crossed it works.

lily knows: Yes yes yes, this was what I need :) you look so so beautiful <3

Jennifer Naccari: Wonderful

bik: YAY! :D I got so excited when I saw this, haha! I've been hoping you'd try it sometime ^-^

Dani Dredful: I am 32 and when I was around 8 to 10 I would stay at my grandma's every weekend and she would love to put my hair in rags and also pipe cleaners for a more ringlet style I hated my mum styling my hair with heated appliances that looked like torture instruments to my over active child mind but was always fascinated by how my gran did things when she was younger so I used to love doing things like this happy memories with a truly amazing woman

Pushpa Panchal: Very nice curls loved it

Rimgaile Kasnauskaite: I had no idea this was a thing until this moment. I actually learnt something new. Thanks

Michelle Marie: I love this look

Priya Mennu: thanks for giving this idea it really works

Kirstin Purcell: My mother used to rag my hair. I was born in 1971 and every event she would do this. I had waist length hair and every single school photo was me with curls lol

Priyanka Dhakoliya: Ooohhhh wow amazing look

Megan Radford: “Back in the old days” My mom did this on my sister and I in the 90s!

Srinu Katroth: it looks very beautiful

Potato Queen: It looks really hard I tried it and I actually works yay

MM ziegler FAN: you explain this perfectly

beckmannm: whenever I do this with my hair the top is always frizzy (from sleeping on it). How did you get rid of the wildness at the top? Just by brushing through?

Grace Brunelle: I wonder if there is a second type of curl that you can doif you sort of pull up the curl closer to your head. My mom says it is a loosed curl. But you did a really beautiful job!!! Love your creativity!

Lana Davis: Why would 1800 people given this a thumbs down? She is absolutely beautiful and this is a great method she shared - - - and her hair is gorgeous!!!

cham cham: I HAVE TO TRY THIS OMG! Thank youuuu!
