Hey everybody, its Angie and welcome to hot and flashy in today's video, I'm gon na. Take you up to my bathroom and we are gon na color. My hair, we're gon na, do base color of a dark root to cover gray, and then we are going to do highlights, both of which we're gon na be using a box kit. One is from the drugstore one is from a salon, so I always show you these guys and, like my empties and whatever I do, you're always like. Well, your hair came out really good. Can you show us how you color it? So that's what today's video is, but I'm not a hair, color professional, I'm like just a regular person like you who colors my hair at home. Sometimes I don't always do it myself, sometimes like after I've done it myself awhile. It gets really blonde and really kind of bleached out at the ends, and so then I do go back to my stylist and have her kind of you know, bring the brown all the way down and then kind of start from scratch and get my balayage going Again, the thing is when your hair starts coming in gray, you need your hair colored so often that you can't always be running in to the salon every four or every five weeks to have your roots done. You know she charges 300 bucks and the combination of these two kits was like 35, so the kits that I use at home are a salon for the dark roots. This is a company that I've been working with for a couple of years. Ever since I found them, I absolutely love their color, because I had tried lots and lots and lots of drugstore Brown kits, but they never fully covered my gray, they never gave me the ashy Brown that I was looking for, because my hair comes up really warm. So I have to cut that all out with the ash enos and with the salon they will custom mix the hair color for you, and so, if you get it in the first time you use it. It'S not quite right. You just go back on the website. You say you know just make it a little more ashy or whatever, and they do so. I'Ve got my perfect color here with a salon. I'Ll show you everything. That'S in the box upstairs in my bathroom, show you my color formula. I do have discount codes for a salon for first-time users, I believe it's 50 % off, but all the information is in the info box below the video there's a link there. I have two different discount codes, so check it out. Then the box that I use for my highlights is this guy from L'Oreal it's their touch on highlights, and this is in h9, tea, iced champagne. I think thinking about pretty good this time. Of course, being the time that I recorded it, they didn't come out exact, perfect. You know how it is like last time I did them, they came out perfect. I don't know it was like a magical moment. So, let's go up to my bathroom. We will color my hair together over the course of two days and I'll show you how I do it and if you are brave enough, you can try it yourself at home. All right guys we're up in my bathroom, I'm gon na do the root portion of my hair color. Today, I'm gon na do the highlights tomorrow. So I have a gray hair up here at the top and they're just a little bit grown out, but I feel, like my highlights, are so far growing out that I need to do both what you get in the kit. Is you get the developer? You get your color and then you get everything that you need to color your hair. So I've already used this kit. Once when I do my roots, I use the kit twice, because it's it's really the size for a full head of hair when the bottle first comes in and it's full. I just sit it on a counter and I measure from where the full line is down to the bottom, and then I divide that in half mark it and then I use that much the first time. I use it and I do the same on the hair. Color bottle, let's see my little mark over here. This is, and it was full. It was up to the top of the label that was half, so I'm just gon na use the rest of it today. The other tools that you need are a little mixing bowl. I think I got this at Sally's or off of Amazon one or the other I'll link something below and a little brush to apply it with. So, let's mix this up, first, I'm going to pour in the developer and then the color. The one thing I recommend is moving your bath mat out of the way and also being sure that you put on some kind of a top that has a front closure. I wear a little zip hoodie, so I can get it off without pulling it over my head, because you don't want to get the color all over your clothes. You don't want to get it on your bath mat generally, when I color my hair, people will want to know what my shade is. So it's 15 volume light brown and that's my formula. All right. Can you guys see me yeah? It looks like it's focus. My face over there, so I have my red tail comb and I basically put the bowl of stuff here in my sink. I just basically hold my hair down and paint it on and to get good, solid gray coverage a lot, especially right where you part your hair, then I just make little my quarter inch partings in my hair. I want them to be nice and close together. I want to be sure that when I add the color to this side, I can feel the color from the previous section that I did coming through. So I'm making sure that I'm getting all of my gray roots just checking the crown to make sure I have everything covered, and I do so I'm gon na let it sit for 30 minutes and then I'm gon na shower it out I'll show you the results. Okay: let's take a look at the route coverage - oh good, it's always so shiny and soft and pretty when I first get it colored ooh. I just love. Love love! How the e salon hair color makes my hair so light fluffy and nice and ahh the first two weeks after coloring. Your Gray's is like the best two weeks of every five or six week period, but I noticed last time I did a hair video. I noticed how I haven't done the back in a long time with the highlights so check out the back. Oh my gosh. They start like way down here, so I definitely need to bring those highlights up a little bit in the back. So we'll do that tomorrow morning, alright guys welcome back to day two of the hair coloring. Today, I'm going to be doing the highlights, this kit comes with a little mixing bowl a little mixing paddle. This is the highlight powder going to mix that together in the mixing bowl with the developer, and then it also comes with a conditioner. A post, coloring conditioner comes with the little finger thingy, I'm just gon na pour in the developer and and the highlighting powder give that a little mix. I actually don't wear the gloves that come with the kit by these exam gloves at Costco. They come in a big box, I'll link it below and they're much better. You get much more control with these. Those big fluffy gloves that don't really fit your hands are no bueno. Okay. So to do the first highlight at the front of your hair: this is the dicey part. You want to make sure that this one comes out good. So I just take the front tiny little section and I section it off this way and then I take that and I comb it straight down and you want to have just the tiniest amount of hairs in here when you comb it straight down in front of Your face, you can see where the existing highlights are, and those are the hairs that you want to pull out to put the cream on. So I want to take this tiny little one here and I literally am taking the tiniest little sections. I mean it's like five hairs in there right grab a little bit of the color, I'm gon na start down here and just feather it up towards the root, and I do those sides and I want to grab that same little front, section again out grab the Next piece that needs highlighting all right, of course the back is always the hardest, so you need a little hand mirror. So you can see what's going on back there, you just grab something now that I've got all the tough parts down now I want to add some around my face underneath so I'm just gon na take this whole section. I'Ve already done loose clip back here, because when I pull my hair back, I like it to have a little bit of highlight in here alright. So now I'm gon na read another chapter in my menopause book. I'Ve got dr. Taylor's book, so go check that out and I'll be back when the timer goes off. Okay time to shower alright, so my hair is finished. I did a rough blowout and here's what it looks like now. Some of my highlights, I feel like they're a little chunky, especially up here at the roots, so I don't feel like I feathered them in as well as I normally do, but you know trying to record this and concentrate and do this it's difficult but um. I think overall, it looks good like the highlights are the right, color and they're in about the right place, and you know they get saving me three hundred dollars over going to the salon and getting it done where she doesn't like this. She does the chunky ones at the roots anyway, so I love how the color comes out with the L'Oreal box kit. It doesn't come out brassy, it's a really nice blonde. It is it's multi-dimensional and tonal. So there are some lighter pieces and some darker pieces, and so it's just the perfect like little box kit for me, so I really like how this one comes out. So that's the video for today. I hope you found it helpful and informative if you did go ahead and give it a like and subscribe to my channel. As always. I thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate watching so have a great day, and I will see you in the next video take care. Everybody bye, you

Gretchen A.: Hi Angie!!! I’m commenting from my daughter’s channel— at any rate I’m a colorist and think you did great—- a few tips—- 1. Pour the powder in first before developer. You will have more control over the consistency. 2. Start applying from bottom up. Meaning do the sides first then work your way to the top. This way you don’t have to clip sections with the bleach. This can lead to spots. ❤️

labsnabys: I think it came out beautifully. I stopped coloring my hair about 2 years ago after 30+ years of coloring. I'm the same age as you and started really going gray in my 20s...thanks, Mom! I finally had enough and ditched the dye at age 55. I'm lucky to be curly and completely salt-and-pepper, so the grow out was less obvious. I have no regrets! I will never question or judge anyone who chooses to color. I think you look fabulous! But I sure don't miss the expense or work of coloring my hair.

Michelle Kelly: You did a great job, Angie! I used to do my grandmother's hair for her. It was a nice time to spend together talking, and she appreciated the help. She was so happy when it was all done! It's not easy to colour your own hair, but it's definitely worth it to save the $300.00 or whatever it costs you. No one would know you did it yourself!

gingerchipper: I absolutely love the L’Oréal Frost and Design kit. I highlighted my hair during Covid and I was amazed at how nice my hair turned out. I used the cap and although it took some time (I’m an RN, not a stylist), it was worth it. Truth be told, it looks just as good and professional as when my hairstylist does it, but at a fraction of the price.

Katie in Cali: Seriously, it was all so much easier 10 years ago! I do the exact same thing.. color my dark roots, then add highlights alternating with my hairdresser! Thanks for making us not feel alone in all this

Laura Libner: Thank you for doing this- I’m finding it’s ridiculously expensive to get the roots done every 5/6 weeks and I used to color my hair all the time, too, but decided to go to the salon because thought it would be healthier for my hair to use better color through the salon. I think your hair turned out stunning.

Michelle Bayard: I just started watching your you tube channel. Your absolutely wonderful. Thank you for this segment. Now that the hair dressers are closed, us 50 yr olds need our hair dyed. Your at home hair colouring and highlights are well done and simple for anyone who needs to dye their hair. Thanks and keep up the good work! Sending you love and light.

Margaret: Another honest and informative video with your sense of humor sprinkled throughout - thanks Angie! You look beautiful!

sharon saunders: Wow Angie, your hair came out just great! Thank you, you encouraged me to try and do my own. Super job!

Pamela and Pablo Ortiz: Oh Angie , this was so helpful and it surely takes a lot of patience . Your hair ALWAYS looks beautiful! Thanks Pam

MAKEUP FOR MATURE SKIN: Hi Angie as a stylist myself I commend you for your patience. I have highlighted my hair when it was short but not at my medium length. Now I just go to a salon. My salon visit with a cut is 95.00 so a little less expensive. Also since I worked in a salon for many years doing clients hair it's nice having someone do my hair. Wow, it looks fabulous! Great job!

Kay Bee: I was so excited to see this, couldn't wait to watch! I ALSO do darker roots to cover my grays (I call it "shadow root"), and also do my own highlights. Our methods are very similar, yet I still picked up some tips, thanks Angie! I get my supplies at Sallies, my hairdresser knows I've been doing my own color since I was 10 years old, so she knows I "more or less" know what I'm doing. I've saved a fortune over the years, doing my own color!

beverly fuller: Angie your results are gorgeous. I would never know you didn't have it professionally done. I started going gray in my 20s (my whole family does) and luckily it looks like natural highlights. I'll keep this video for future reference though!

Jen B.: You have no idea how excited I am about this video. I highlighted mine for YEARS, but then I got chicken when I started getting grays. My friend is my stylist so I know she will be fine with doing it in between. GENIUS!! You have saved the day/week/month/year once again, Angie!

Bonnie Davis: Hey Angie, I just watched your video while I had color on my roots! I color my own as well. Love your results!

Christine Stubbs: Hey Angie. Good for you! Saves lots of money and looks great. Your makeup looks terrific, as always. Thanks for all the great videos.

YouTips4U: Hey Angie! You did a great job on your hair! I’ve been highlighting my own hair for about 20 years now and I much prefer it to the salon. I haven’t ever colored my hair yet, but it was nice to learn about how I can do it myself so I’ll be prepared for when that time comes.I’ve used the L’Oreal Kit you used in the past and found it to be very nice and natural looking too. I have a quick tip for you to make application of your highlights a bit easier: section off the top first and clip it up and out of the way, then highlight the underneath hair and the sides, then bring your hair down and do the top layer and around your face. I find that to be much easier when working with paint-on highlights. Plus, the hair around your face lifts quicker so usually needs a bit less time than the hair underneath so you can finish with that area. Also, have you considered using foils? It would be much quicker and easier for you. It’s super easy to learn. I have an old video up on it, but if you follow how your stylist does it, you will easily learn. That’s what I did and then I put my own spin on it to avoid ending up too blond, which was my big problem with the salon. Hope I could help! Thanks for sharing this helpful video. Your hair came out great!

Heather: I'm sure everyone is very thankful for this video in quarentine ;) Luckily, I stopped dying my hair years ago but I used to cap it (with long hair, yes) and also do foils. I would be scared to get patches doing this method but your hair looks great! Frost & Glow from Revlon is an awesome kit and comes with a cap as well.

zxc: Awesome content as always! Thanks for the awesome inspiration and showing easy steps to achieve the look.

Kim Baker: I literally do my hair the same exact way, every 2 months or so, roots one day highlights the next, I even use the same box highlights as you do. I get a little nervous when doing highlights for fear of leaving on to long, but usually always comes out perfect and looks great like yours. ❤️❣️

Tina: The story of my life ...I have medium dark brown hair and have started going lighter to stave off coloring as often. I think you did a great job!

Patti: Awesome job Angie!! You look amazing color is nice! I’ve been using root and box highlighting color for years and get compliments all the time so just wanted you to know your video was great and exactly how I do mine! Have a wonderful New Year 2022 and to make a remark for those that think it takes to much time “Aren’t we worth that time’ ??! I know I am!! ❤️

Diane Reschke: Hi Angie, you're a true teacher, well done! Your hair looks amazing, like you stepped out of a salon.

Marisa Morgan: Good job Angie! I’m all for doing it yourself and saving money! I color my roots every 3 weeks. Also, I read Menopause Taylor’s book last year. So much good information! I also recommend The Estrogen Window. I believe she mentions it in her book and definitely on her channel. Lots of information out there and everyone should empower themselves with it to make the best decisions for themselves.

Sonya J: Thank you SO MUCH for doing this video!! I've been coloring my own hair (both to cover grays and to change from my ugly brown natural color) for years, and while I've mostly been satisfied with the results, watching your technique for both the root coverage and the highlighting was incredibly helpful to me :D. I just did my roots the other day, but the color I used was a bit dark so adding some highlights would be great. Based on your recommendation and outcome, I'm definitely going to get one of those L'Oreal kits.

Denise D: You did a great job Angie and your hair looks so nice. I didn't realize you could use the eSalon twice, so that makes it much more affordable. Thank you for helping us with so much. Have a wonderful day!! Hugs and Love to you xoxo

BettyBlu: This was great. I saw a hairdresser do the same and start at the middle part, but then she did around her face (part down to ears on each side, because that's where most people have & see the most grey) before she did the 1/4 inch sections and it worked nicely. Nice job, your hair always looks beautiful!

Rebecca Young: You did a great demo Angie! When you are covering grays every 3 weeks this does save you money, a great alternative to the salon. And you can customize to suit your own taste. You are patient. Good job!

Seacoast: Lol !!! It just hit me... hot and flashy!!! ❤️you did a great job on the color and highlights! It looks better than what some professional hair stylists have done. From what I have seen.

Shari Schmidt: Very pretty! You certainly did an excellent job with both colouring and highlighting your hair!

V. 1954: This is so timely. My natural color WAS very dark brown, now more salt than pepper. By the end of week 2, my roots are showing and it's frustrating. I plan on coloring my part and crown at home to extend the salon visits from every 4 weeks (using WOW powder) to every 6 weeks. Question: on day 1, did you use shampoo when you washed your hair? Thanks again for another great video.

Graceful Beauty: Wow this looks so good. I often color my hair at home but haven't yet attempted highlights. I may be brave and try this someday. You make it look so easy!

Suzy Keleher: You are so brave! I colored myself the other day and had to go to my hair dresser to have it corrected. So I defeated my purpose- to save time and money. Beautiful results on you!!!!! Love ya Angie!!! who you are!

Mary Timmins: I'm so glad I gave up colouring my hair and I just love my silver. The worrying about roots, the chemicals, the cost. It's liberating and my only regret is not doing it sooner.

Lisa Dunahoe: This is my Covid19 emergency hair color plan. Let's see how long I can go! Thanks for all you do!

M. Corege: Beautiful job - thx for teaching us how it's done - that's a real great workout for your upper arms - cheers from Canada

Lara Farnham: Looks great, Angie. You make it lok so easy. I'm gonna do it!

Ally's World: So impressive! Coming from a hair professional! 1 tip, if you take the powder bleach and slowly add the developer you will get a paste that is thicker and easier to apply and stays in place. I totally get doing your roots yourself it's so necessary, every two weeks at a salon is too much! Love your videos!!!!

Millie Knockit: Thank you Angie. This video is just what I needed. I have failed so many times when I try to do the foils myself.... or the cap... And you're so right about the cost. I save my pennies, and only go a couple or three times a year's because it is SO expensive. My lady does my roots and then she balayages it with a few foils and it looks gorgeous and lasts a LONG time as she makes it so you really can't see the gray growing out for months, but the price tag...ouch! Anyway, your hair looks so good. Cannot wait to try this.

BlingBea: Thank goodness my stylist charges me $65 to cover my greys, roots only, now that I’m 65 I have to go once a month. About the third week I touch up myself with the products you recommended. Your so right the first two weeks after a visit to my salon it’s so pretty, then here they start coming in again. Wow thanks for showing how you do your roots, always wondered how you did the back, I need to try this myself.

Sophie McDougal: WOW, I thought I was the only frugal one that divided my hair color! LOL! Thanks for sharing and being “real”.

Tina Anderson: Question: when do you start timing the proceeding? After you have all the highlights done??? It would take me forever to do this. My hair would be white! Great video!!

Rene Martz: Thanks Angie! This helped so much! Great tips and demo! ❤

Nina: You did a great job! Looks amazing and natural

Cathy Over 50 - Beauty & Style: You made this look so easy Angie! I don't think that I would be able to do this, I'd probably end up with dye everywhere and none on my roots! Thanks for sharing! Let me know if you ever make house calls.

Clarissa Saiz: You’re so talented! I’m a new hairstylist and can’t imagine doing this myself! Watch your eyes though, that bleach over your eyes looked scary!!

Irma Rivera: You did very well ! Great idea to do it at home , hopefully I will be able to do my high lights ❤️

Marni Ulch: I just did my roots with eSalon! My stylist is awesome, and the color came out looking pretty great (dark blonde 7.0). Stylist tweaked the color for the next application (added Pearl to reduce brassiness). I'm excited to move on to the next step and add some more highlights with the Loreal kit you use. Wish me luck!

Jerrene W.: I think it looks great you did a good job. In school they taught us at our place to highlight the front last because it usually turns the fastest, so you could start with the lower part of your head it might give you a better blend after. I love your tip to cover grey as I am getting more and need to change up the way I do it. Thanks and I'm impressed with how blended your hair looks, especially in the back.

Elyzsabeth Ahne: One thing that I like to do after I've highlighted my hair using bleach is to color all the hair using a very light blonde demipermanent color. I add 1 - 2 oz. of water to dilute it, and I leave it on for only about seven minutes. I like this toning method because it's gentle and conditioning on my hair.

Lauren L: Thanks for this Angie. I always thought you had to use one of those awful caps and pull the hair through. This is a great demo.

WendyStodghill: I’m one of those $300 dollar hair stylists & I must say, your hair always looks fantastic! Good work!

Mary Wood: Thank you, Angie. Loved this. The highlights look great.

WW Jackie: Thank you! I always color my roots like you did, one tip though, my husband put a mirror that is as big as your hand held mirror, but has an arm to it, on my back wall, opposite the big bathroom mirror, so I can see the back....much easier! I do go to the salon about every other month, or when the background starts to come too far down, for highlights...but I can’t wait to try that highlight kit you used because of no foils!

kathy price: You do a great job with your hair! I have the same issue with the coloring gray every 3 weeks. I do it myself. I recently have my hairstylist friend do the highlights because I get brass at times. I might try the box blonde for highlights. $300! I couldn’t do that! I pay just under $100 for a partial highlight when I go. I never get a full highlight. Thanks for the video

Karen Cutler: Wow - I can't believe you can do this by yourself!! It looks so pretty!

Renee Van Veen: Now that’s a good video!! Plenty of time taken to make and just really great content! Due to virus my hair may need attention before safe to return to colorist so thank you ! Stay well ❤️

Gloria Collier: I love my natural silver highlights! I’m happy I decided to embrace my natural hair because it’s so much healthier and fuller. Total freedom! You did a good job though and it looks nice.

Cherie Huet: Hi Angie! Loved your videos! I found this video by accident after seeing the one where you show us how to light ourselves for Zoom. I have actually been using eSalon for 7 years and bought their highlight kit several months ago, but haven't had the nerve to use it yet! I can't say I feel 100% certain that I'm going to do it, but you made me feel a lot more comfortable with the idea of trying it. I have no problem doing my roots, in fact, I now have the job of coloring my BFF's roots before she goes to her hairdresser for highlights and a cut! But, since I'm stuck inside for however long this takes, I figure maybe it's a good time to give it a try? Thanks again for putting a great video together!!

Maria H: I do not color my hair but still enjoy hanging out with you and learning how to do highlights! Makes me think I should color my hair!

Debra Herrera: You did an amazing job! I have just started doing my own also, but the foil makes it really hard. I am going to try without as you did! You are so sweet too I really appreciate your helpful videos

Diane Milligan: Very, very, helpful! Excellent explanation and demo - Thank you so much!

Joan Gentile: Great job, Angie!! It came out beautiful!! Not chunky at all. It's a beautiful blonde color!! ❤

Katie Daly: Well done, I’m a hairdresser and I recommend u start on the underneath parts first . Then work to the top hun. It avoids it from smudging. Well done looks great ❤️

Miss Lori: This is exactly the method I have been doing for years. I use a dark blonde as a base and then I highlight about once every 3 months or so. My hairstylist is impressed the nice colour I can do on my own.

Leslie Martorell: You remind me of myself! Lol I love doing stuff at home. I color and highlight my hair, but never tried E-salon. I'm excited to try it. Thank you for all your help! I'm almost 52 and love getting helpful tips!!

JandT Furman: I do my own as well using the L’Oréal Couleur Expert kits in Iced Meringue or Toasted Coconut and get great results. My hair cut person always compliments the highlights. But the boxes are getting harder to find at the stores. Yours came out great and natural at the roots.

Suzie Rao: Thank you for sharing the art of highlighting your own hair. I love your show and keep up the great videos.

catherine thompson: Wow you really have a lot of patience! And how you can pick out the hairs that need the highlight. You made it look so easy! Thank you ❤

Susan Moore: I would be petrified to do that..I am so hair challenged I can barely get my fixed honey....you did a GREAT job...I thought it looked really pretty, so you are getting good at this especially the highlights...thanks for sharing..xoxo

AmyJacqueline G.: Dividing the hair in 4 quadrants helps keep partings clean and the color off previously colored hair. Also a Demi glaze toner is nice to finish off with and can neutralises any brassiness in blondes.

DPurple Palm: I am a black female. I don't know why you were on my recommended but I was hooked.....anxious to see the end result. Your easy "mom next door" personality is what really pulled me in. I don't know much about highlights but what I do know is that you did a fantastic job. It's no longer a solid brown at the top, it's a nice and even mixture of blonde and brown. Thanks for sharing. Now I want to try this on one of my white friends. I could really hook her or him up!

Nancy Newman: Thank you Angie. This was so helpful. I do exactly the same thing at home. It saves you tons of money and although I adore having it done, I love saving money more. God bless you.

Trace S: This was fantastic!! I have been waiting for something like this because the salons are crazy pricey, you are right about that. I now feel confident to try this at home thanks to your video Angie!! Xo

srvsgal: So I've been on the fence about wanting to try ESalon or one of the other online coloring services. Saw you use ESalon, and decided to try it. Love it. I've used the same boxed color for years. No more! Also use Flawless Touch hair remover, thanks to you!

Shelly Cupp: I do my own hair too! Love this video, thanks Angie.

Mike and Mom: It looks awesome! Just as good as a salon.❤️

Farwest: I've used esalon for several years now and have never been able to get 4 or 5 weeks before having to touch up roots. By 3 weeks, there is a 1 to 1 1/2" area that is noticeably lighter (not grow out). I don't highlight since I have to root touch up every 3 weeks . I wash my hair every 2 or 3 days (fine and thin hair). I am nearly all grey so anyone have a gentle color that actually lasts longer than 3 weeks ?

Amy K: I actually think it looked beautiful after you just did the roots. So pretty. If I were me I would do a major highlight in the fall and only do my roots for.the entire winter then start again in June. It's so pretty

MQS 1: I'm DIY hair color kind of girl (roots mainly). Fantastic job! Great tips and demo!

Island cleaning: Look great! It’s much easier to pull through a cap. Also lowlights are just as easy as highlights. Pull your hair through a cap and then use your root color for the lowlights no need to pay 300 for something you can do yourself.

Wayne Blocker: A great video, she is ready and goes right to the tutorial.

Bobo S: Your hair came out great. I also do my own but have managed to use foils myself for the front half of my hair, in the back I grab strands and do it the way you do. My hair takes for ever to turn from the brassy to blond. What I did notice is for your roots your using 15% bleach, I’ve been using 20%, I might try to make that change, my grays are really resistant. Love your videos, oh I also do my highlights first then my roots just for those times I get to close to my scalp.

Modern Jewelry Creators: Your hair looks great! I’m not afraid to color myself but the highlights! Yikes! I was nervous until watching you - I’m fairly dark red since I haven’t had highlights done now in a long time so It’s probably going to take me a few times of baby highlights until I get there - but thanks for giving me the confidence!

Lois Thompson: Hi Angie, your hair looks great as usual! Do you put the bleach on the strands of hair down to the root? Or does that vary? I couldn't quite tell in the video. Thank you for sharing it's so nice of you!

Joy To The World: You’d look lovely grey, ever considered growing out your greys and joining the grey movement? Honestly it’s so freeing! Also, grey hair is much healthier, it’s a money saver and grey hair matches complexion, which changes with age too along with natural greys. Your blue eyes would look amazing with natural grey hair!

Briar Rose: Great job! No way would I undertake this and I can't afford salon prices so I'm just letting Mother Nature take over.

Cindy P: I've been using the AGEbeautiful cream lightener (with 30 dev) from Sally's and I feel like it's better for my hair, yet a strong product. It's that time again, I know it... the hardest part is picking out the strands already done, I give up and just pick up anything! But I love this video, it's so important to know WE CAN do it ourselves. Although I am waiting for new technology to make it easier!! Thanks!! xo

LAKE GIRL: Looks great! I just had mine done at the salon and can appreciate the savings!

Beverly Collins: Your hair looks beautifully shiny when you style it straight. ‍♀️

RealBeautiful Beauty: I'm a hair stylist that loves to do my own hair at home.. You did such a good job.. Thumbs up

bethpat9: Great job!! I know how difficult it is. I do my own too. However, I am so Grey now that it's really difficult and so it's mostly blonde now, but I try to keep some varying colors for dimension. I've been putting more dark blonde (my natural color before greying) in it and I use a box kit too but not the highlights one. I might have to try that esalon because choosing the color is hard. It's only about $90 here but I'd rather use that money on something else, ya know? I've been highlighting about my own hair for at least 30 years! It may not be perfect, but it's good enough!

terwya: Speaking of hair. Per Angie's recommendation I ordered (and it was on sale) the Colleen Rothschild Quench & shine restorative hair mask collection. It included the mask, a spray leave in conditioner and a brush for the shower for your hair when you put on the mask. I used it for the first time this morning just as a regular conditioner. OMG what a difference my hair is after only one use. So soft and silky with no flyaway hairs. My hair is mid-length. I have been using also per Angie's recommendation the Briogeo Kale +Apple Shampoo and Conditioner which I love, but the Colleen Rothschild is a better conditioner than the Briogeo conditioner, which is good. Rats I have so much of the Briogeo conditioner left. It lasts so much longer than the Shampoo which goes quickly.

The Art of Intuition: Thanks for this. Since I was only doing my roots, I measured and used half (as shown), The color turned out great but noticed a few days later the remaining color in the bottle seemed to turn darker. Did you notice something similar? Not sure if that was normal. Was a light yellow..now darker yellow.

Ida Dee: Tedious process, but end result is fantastic!

harrisonpamela40: Your results are amazing! While I do touch up my own roots between visits to my stylist, I have never been brave enough to attempt highlights....

Chisty A: Great video! Beautiful color. Have you ever thought of using a frosting cap for the highlights? I have a lot of hair, and find that's the only way I can do a full head of highlights at home. When I do balyage, by the time I get to the back of my head, it's time to wash out the front. However, when I use a cap, I can apply the bleach quickly as the hair to be highlighted is preselected before any bleach is applied, and everything lightens at the same time.

Christine Mack: Your hair really looks professionally done and I admire your patience. I wonder how long the root touch up and the highlights take you?

Jeannie S: Wow! You do a great job with those highlights! I would not be so patient!

CTP T: Thanks as always for a great video. How much time does it actually take you to paint all the strands for the highlight? I hate spending all that money too.
