Hey guys today, I'm going to be showing you how I highlight my roots at home. I first want to mention that I am NOT a professional, but I have been doing my own hair at home. Pretty much all my life. I just think that it's fun and that's what I like to do so that's what I do. I don't want to talk too much because I know that y'all are probably ready to get into this tutorial, but I do like to show you guys my results at the beginning. Just so you know what you're getting into before watching this whole video. So these are my results. Let me show you the back, but I'm going to be honest with you guys there is this one spot right here that kind of bugs me like it's just not as perfect as I want it, but I just kind of strategically tuck. It behind my ear and it's good to go. So that's what I do to kind of just hide that mistake, which I feel like is a mistake. I also don't typically part my hair in the middle, but I feel like if I didn't want to there, we go that's better see, so this is highlighted pretty evenly and if I could decide to start parting, my hair in the middle, it would hide that that Spot so it wouldn't be as noticeable like. I said I am NOT a professional, so I just wanted to be real and honest with you about how I felt about my results. If you are new to my channel, my name is DeAndre and I put up new videos every single week, so please be sure and hit that subscribe button right down there. You know where it is: let's go ahead and get into this tutorial. I will link everything that you guys see in this video in the description box below I got it all that Sally's really affordable, so yeah, let's go ahead, get the cap on notice. I have my hair parted to the side. This is how I normally wear my hair, and so I'm just going to keep that part there. So I'm just going to place the cap on and I want to make sure that it is aligned. So you can see my part right here, which is good. I'M going to pull it all the way down and then I'm going to tuck all of this hair under and I'm going to tie it so that it stays in place. So once it's secure, I'm just going to take the little needle and start pulling my hair through for the top part of my hair. I am gon na go through every hole just because I'm not the most highlights right in here, especially right here around my face. Okay, so if you don't have a helper at home, I'm just quickly going to show you how I do it on my own, so I'm just gon na turn around and what I do is I just push all the hair from the top to the front and Then I just kind of work horizontally instead of vertically the back really doesn't matter as much, but I do like to pull some through just in case, like I'm doing like a half up hairstyle or something to me, I don't really care if I skip hold or I miss hold. I just want to make sure that there's not like too many gaps. Okay, so I finally got all the hair pulled through. It will look softness, I know, but let me just zoom out: okay, I'm gon na take this extra hair right here, pull it to the back and tie it okay. So the bleach that I got is this color brilliant conditioning with garden a gardenia oil and coconut oil. What I'm gon na do is put it in this little plastic. Oh on the directions. It says one part bleach on part developer: I'm just gon na take a little measuring cup. This is one for, and I just want to make sure that I'm putting equal parts bleach and equal parts developer and then I'm going to take William xx developer and the reason I'm only using xx is because I watched a video from this hair stylist. That said, if you're going in with bleach on top of hair - that's already bleached - you don't want to go higher than a twenty, because it will fry off all the hair. That'S already been bleached, so we are going to mix it together and that looks ready to go. I am gon na start at the top. In my last video I started at the bottom, but since I'm focusing the color on my roots, I'm just going to start painting on starting a spit-spot. I kind of figured out the foils. I just kind of took pieces and wrap the foil and then just because they were slipping in it was making a mess. So I put all the bleach in first and then I grabbed pieces and then wrap the foil. So that's why it looks like that. This part was in foil, but I took it out because it was getting a little bit lighter than the rest of my hair. So I was just gon na. Let the bleach dry and stop working. I got this I'd done, but I didn't put any foil down there. I just kind of made sure that the bleep - it's all saturated, I'm really not getting the ends of my hair right here. If you can tell they're already bleached and I don't want to damage them even more really, what I'm doing is just taking a little piece and taking some bleach on the brush and then just blending downwards. Just so that there is not like a harsh part where you stopped so just blend down towards where your hair is already bleached, but don't saturate the ends, because that's just gon na call it's way more damaged than it's already damaged. So my husband's been helping. It'S nice to have a helper. I hope you know a happy helper. You can tell that we're parents. Just by that statement. Do you shower in that cap? You do shower in the cap, and so what I do is I just get my hair wet and like kind of massage all the beach out of it, and then I, but not scrub it up yeah. So I just get in the shower, get my hair wet and before I shampoo it, I take the cap off and then after I take the cap off, I I then shampoo it remember. All the hair that you pulled through right here is what your bleaching. So if your bleach gets on this hair right here, like it's, okay, just make sure to blend it out, because you are blocking all the hair, that's not getting bleached with the cap and all the hair. That'S not getting bleached is behind your head in the ponytail. That'S why I like this method, just because, if you are not a professional like me, I'm not a professional and I can get a little messy. Sometimes this is kind of a foolproof way of highlighting your hair and being able to get messed up without making a ton of mistakes. You know I am going to let this sit for about thirty minutes, I would say, and then I'm gon na wash it out and I'll come back and do some toner so we'll see how this goes. This is what my hair looks like after I washed out all the bleach now we're going to tone and I bought the Wella lightest beige blonde t11. I didn't want it to be like bright blonde against my hair color and my skin tone. So I wanted something that was more beige more on the warm side rather than on the ashy side. The back of this says to mix with one part toner in two parts: xx developer, so I'm just gon na go ahead and use the same things that I use for the bleach. I just wash them out because it says one part toner, I'm just gon na fill this 1/4 cup halfway full and then I'll fill the developer full. If that makes sense what I'm gon na do really quickly before I apply. The toner is just section, my hair off, just to make sure that I get all of my hair and my hair is damp right now, because you want your hair to be damp when you do the toner and then I'm just gon na leave this down. So I can get toner here: okay and then this side I'll just do in half, because I did the highlights all throughout my hair, I'm just gon na go ahead and apply toner throughout my whole hair. I want all my highlights to be the same color. Even the ones that I had previously so that's why I'm gon na just go ahead and apply to my whole head so taking the brush again. Actually, maybe I should just put my gloves on and just flop it all on there. It might be a little faster we're just gon na do this. The easiest way possible - and I feel like using a brush, is just gon na waste time. So I'm just gon na take a glob of it and glob it on my head making sure to just saturate everything: okay, I'm just gon na take my brush and brush it through just to make sure that all the toner is evenly dispersed throughout my whole head. All of that is toned, I'm just going to probably really gross it. I just put that in my mouth - okay, I'm just gon na clip this up, so that it's not on my neck, all right! So now I'm going to leave this toner in for about thirty minutes, I'm going to wash it out and I did get this ionic color defense after color sealer. It says it hydrates seals cuticle, while adding a shine. So I figured that this would be good to have after highlighting my hair, so I just went ahead and picked this up so BRB, so I thought I was done, but I'm quickly going to just grab a few pieces that I feel like should have been highlighted. I'M really not highlighting a lot, I'm just going to like right here. I do wear my hair back a lot like in a high pony or in a half pony, and if I were to pull it back, how it is now all this part is highlighted, but like not really anything right here is highlighted. So I want to fix that in my last video. What I did was I brushed my hair back and then I put the cap on and I didn't have this issue this time. I parted it to the side and I do have this issue. So if you wear your hair back and you care that it looks like this, then brush your hair back and then put the cap on then pull your hair through. I'M just going to go in and touch up a few spots. So since I have this hold back already, I kind of want to match this streak right here, so I'm just gon na pull out right here now, I'm going it to just part it where my hair parts and because I want one like in this area - I Am going to see how it looks like when it's parted, so there's a black spot right here that I do want a highlight on so I'm just gon na grab this one right here. I'M just going to pin this back because I'm not highlighting anything on this side. I'M going to pin this part back. I'Ve got this part, that's all lighted! This part, that's highlighted what I'm gon na do is just add these. I am gon na oil. These I'm not an expert at foils at awesome. Don'T judge me for being horrible with foil, but I'm just gon na. Let this sit wash just this part of my hair out tone it, and then hopefully I have everything highlighted where I want it, but I think I pulled it throughout this part. Pretty well I'll, be back to show you. My final final final results all right, so that was my process from start to finish. I will give a couple critiques if I was doing it again. What I would do different is pull everything equally from the top and on the sides, because what I did was pull every hole on the top and then on the sides. I only pulled the marked holes. Another thing that I would do differently is, I would pull my hair back before putting the cap on and then pulling everything like that, because it did make a difference right here on my head. It wasn't even all the way across and if I had done that, then I probably wouldn't have had to go back and make those adjustments like in my hair right here. That'S really all that I would do differently if you are wanting to highlight your roots, but not highlight as much just pull less holes, and it will give you less highlights. So it is a pretty foolproof if you are a beginner to highlighting your hair at home. Even if you are seasoned at highlighting your hair at home or you've done it often, I feel like it's just the easiest way to get it done. I feel like I make less mistakes when I just go ahead and use the cat on my last video. I did get a lot of questions about how long it took me and honestly, this time around it took me like almost 6 hours. Typically, it only takes me about 3 to 4 hours this time. It just took me a little bit longer because I did have quite a few interruptions, but that's mom life. What can I say? I really hope that I answered all of you guys's questions. If I didn't and I might have missed something. Definitely leave me a comment down below with my last video, I learned so much from you guys, leaving helpful comments. I really enjoy reading those, because I'm not professional and I feel like there's always something to be learned, so feel free to leave your comments and questions down below. I love reading them and I love responding other than that. I really hope that you learned something. I hope you enjoyed this video and thank you so so much for watching. I will see you next time. Bye, bye,

Spilulu Lily: Hey y’all if you have trouble with some spots or zebra stripes, pick up a color one or two shades lighter than your roots plus some 10vol developer from Sally’s and spot touch up the roots before you wash next time. This has worked amazingly for me

Maria Ceniceros: Finally someone that does their hair at home by themselves who has same color shade as me who dont bleach their whole hair

Amanda Rey: Love it, came out really beautiful, I love doing my own hair myself, so definitely helpful if I do highlights ❤

Fuzzy Friends Rescue Volunteer: Your hair looks great! Foils generate heat and cause faster development. The beauty of the cap is to avoid all the foils all together. I've never seen foils done with a cap simultaneously. I've always seen the bleach applied all over the cap, gentle on the root to prevent bleed through and hot root, then the bleach washed out. You can actually save some steps by toning with the cap still on like you said which is what I usually do. I think I'll try the foils on the cap to lessen my processing time. Thanks good advice!

Samantha: I’m literally going to attempt this today! I’ve used the revlon highlights before and I think toning it would look amazing! I’m excited. Quick question: when did you use the ion brilliance creme? I didn’t see it in the video but it’s in the links

Not My Own Strength: Thanks for sharing how you do this from home. I finally followed your tips and I am so pleased with the results :D How long did you wait in-between bleaching? Im trying to figure out what to do with my root growth so its not an awkward distinct line between dark brown and the highlighted part.

M: You should make a video of exactly how you styled this way from wet hair to dry. It is gorgeous!!!!!!!!!

KK Beauty: Such a great video! And you are so good at explaining everything!

MARLENE MEJIAS: I really Liked it! About to do some highlights at home and was looking for some videos and found yours. Definitely trying the cap this time, it's way more easy than just using the foils alone.

Krista B: Great video, I have professional highlights that are QUITE grown out, and really really want some more blond, but of course, we all be quarantining! I was afraid of underprocessed roots and over processed ends. This makes me feel a little less scared. I'm lighter brown than you - I'm going to try the Revlon highlites for brunettes. very informative and down to earth! You have a new subscriber from Canada!

Oonagh72: Pro tip: put Vaseline on hair you don’t want to process. That way you can avoid too much overlap with the bleach.

s a: Turned out amazing! I was always afraid of that cap lol but now maybe I will try it, thanks so much!

Cassandra Shuman: Helpful tips: for best color results make sure your hair is a little dirty (day 2-3 of no wash) the dirtier the better. Dont forget to comb through your hair after pulling through the cap. Also, keep the cap on while rinsing the bleach and applying the toner.

KAROON BOOMIE: JOB WELL DONE CHICY, GREAT VIDEO & YOU LOOK AWESOME!

Adrienne Townley: I dyed my hair and the color ended up being much darker then what I was expecting. What would you do if you wanted to lighten the color but not use bleach. I know your not a hairdresser. Been watching your videos and your very honest and you explain very well what your doing. Thanks!

BeautyHealthandCurls: You did an amazing job, people pay hundreds to get this look

Yushi Kuang: After viewing your video, I bought the Wella T11, the developer 20 and the powder lighteners and the highlight comb. I have medium long straight hair...not virgin hair but my last balayage was before the Covid-19. It took me 5 hours! The bleach works terrible well and I was terrify with those orange-carrott stripe! Arrrrrhhh! After toning, it looks likes a warm sun kiss tone. i definitly need more pratice as my bleach balayage it’s not perfect. But i do love the color! Thank you

Jennifer Harris: Hub SHOULD be happy. You're saving him a boatload of $$ doing this yourself.

thatgirlnoelia: I absolutely love your channel and your videos! After watching a couple, I knew I had to subscribe! ❤️

tabuma f: I noticed that you're using this method again after the Reed balayage kit. Do you prefer the cap method's results? Personally, I think those brush in highlight kits leave strange chuncky spots. And the cap is more even and there's more contrast.

amani b: also how long do you keep it on? and do you keep it on the same time? like what if one section was “done” while you were still applying bleach to the others

Kathryn Willette: I don’t dye my whole head of hair at home very often, and I never thought of a toner. Do you need it? I’m going mostly non toxic, so Madison Reed on the base, and I have the Revlon highlighting kit for highlights. I was going to try balayage, but I think you are right. The cap will be best. Thank you for your easy-to-follow tips!!

Steph Ayala: OMG i am so glad i found your channel!! You are so beautiful <3 i need your help! lol i just bought the revlon frost & glow highlighting kit in blonde & honey. i was wondering how u feel about mixing the 2 to get an "in between color effect"?

Destiny Pino: Hey girl ! Been watching your videos I have black box die hair I haven't dyed for almost 2 years prior to that I had red hair done with boxes bleach and red dye called splat. I want to do bright honey highlights what products should I get from Sally's ? Or wherever. I seen the Loreal kit you did and then this kind which one would be more effective for my situation if you don't mind me asking? Thank you in advance

hEEEYYYNAE❤️: What would you recommend putting the cap on with hair brushed back or put the cap on with how you part your hair ?

Gabby Bonbom: I wanna try this so bad cause one of these box dyes is like $10

chezza bee: your hair is so beautiful ...x

Yushi Kuang: I think this toner is way better than T27...just looove it.

Nancy Dorasco: Hello if I part my hair in the middle should highlight like that or do you recommend brushing all my hair back?

Jess Barrios: Are you suppose to use foils for retouch?

Hilda AYBAR: Beautiful

Jessica May: omg u using a brush and being so great with placement... when i highlight i slap bleach on with my hands and touch my roots after and then call it a day LOL

Tenzing Sakya: Hi! To do face framing highlights did u just pull more out towards the top? And also I have dark brown hair similar to ur natural color maybe even a little darker so how long would u suggest leaving the bleach in? It would be my first time!

kennedy anderson: Did you pull through every hole on the cap? You did that for the top but I don’t know if you did something different for the sides

Magda Gamboa: You should post a video of how you curl your hair. Pretty please ❤

Rose Real: Wow I am new to your channel and I love the video you have how to highlight your hair..

WifeMomMeBob Life365: I never thought of using foil with a cap, next time I will give that a try... but girl how do u do it with no gloves I must just be sensitive my fingertips hurt if I get bleach on my skin

Val Sanderson: Looks great. Thx

Rose A: I want to do the cap highlights, is this how you retouch?

Jillian Clemmons: Cindy Crawford vibes. I love it.

Rose Real: Is your hair not dry if you used bleach..?

Carolyn Flowers: Nice finish . I will try myself and send another comment after

Experimenta Orlando by Vanessa Pereira: Could a do it with the honey frost and glow from Revlon?

Nikeetha Chikkala: Why is your hair red at the end of the video. What toner would you recommend to get it more blonde and not orange/red?

Kate L: So you would suggest starting with the roots (applying there first) and then doing the sides?

Jess Barrios: Why did you add foils to some parts of your hair? What does that do? Does it make the process quicker?

siliconeFreeValley: I love your name. Is going on my female name list for a future.

Alisha S: omg you look like two different people looks amazing tho

Sandy Pham: Your husbands technique is on point! LOL

Travel with Priya: I want to ask one think in hair cap two holes r there bigger one and smaller one so which one is good to do? Pls tell

90sBaebee: I tried this but my highlights look brassy I toned it and didn't do much I also put purple shampoo and didn't do much either ? And bleaching it again i don't think would help

Maria Castillo:

Cat Pajamas: I can’t believe you’re applying bleach with your bare hands. Hard core.

Frankie Renea Ward: Girl, you are killing me with the no gloves. I bet your hands were so dry after.

Anilou Bautista: Helo where can i buy this cap i want to try this bec i hve sensitive scalp for hair dye

Cecilia Garza: So would you recommend doing this way or with the Revlon frost and glow highlight kit? What would you say is something different between the two? Does one of them leave your hair more orange/brassy?♥️ Love your videos!!!

Cheyenne Licea: Ugh super nice

Shivani Vaishnavi: What base color do you have

Kelly Cramer: Every hole or every other?

Juan Hernandez: Hi plzz replyyyy. So I want to highlight my hair with a highlighting cap. But I’m going to use hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Since I’m not highlighting my entire head will this cause less damage as in dryness and frizz? Thank you

Aisha Asif: Hello loreal color is better for mixing right without adding any other material.... And oil should b not used after colouring right ... You look preety

Bert Huizr: Yoü didn’t show us how you did the sides.

Helen Grethel: Xq no haces videos en español tuvieras mas audiencia....piensalo!!!

Rs xo: Someone help me I got zebra spots I’m having panic attacks right know omg please ❤️

Leo Johnson: You need to tone your hair. It’s yellow.
