Hey guys welcome back to my channel. In today's video. I wanted to give you a brief explanation of color levels and color tones and go over a little bit of color theory in hair, so that you can determine what color is both right for you and whether that color is achievable, with your hair type and hair Color., So I did a video similar to this years ago, but it was very technical and very long and I still get a lot of questions so I figured I wanted to really give you more even in-depth information, but really keeping it simple and basic so that Even if you're, not a hair dresser, you still understand this a little bit more.. So I just wan na start off with a very basic color level chart.. So this is the darkest which is basically a Black, and this is a blonde.. Now some coloring brands work on a 1 to 10 level.. Some companies go from like 2 to 12. It doesn't matter because the range of colors is still the same obviously.. So the first thing that you really need to understand about hair, if you're, even thinking about changing your hair color, is the level and the level is the most important thing. And a lot of people will say tone when they mean level and a lot of people Will say color or hue or darkness or any of that., But level just means how light or how dark the hair is.. This doesn't mean what kind of tone, whether it's gold, whether it's ashy, whether it's blue, whether it's purple, whether it's red level, doesn't say any of that.. So basically, if you imagine the darkest level of hair color, if I were to put say a green color over, that is that gon na show No. It's not. And that answers a lot of question of a lot of girls that come in with dark hair and Want you know, pastels or you know just like really bright colors, and when I tell them, you have to bleach your hair first, they don't understand. They're like ``. Why? Why can't you just put the pastel color on ?'', Because if I were to take a blue marker - and you know color over that you're not gon na see that, because it's a dark canvas., We need to bleach it and brighten the canvas up so that that Color can actually show.. So that's one of the most asked questions. Now we're jumping into tone. And a lot of people will say. Like ``, I hate the tone of my hair. I wan na be lighter.''. Then that means you don't like the level of your hair. Not the tone of your hair. Because, like I said all of our hair is one of these levels. Everyone on earth. Their hair is one of these levels.. So basically, my hair down here is about a level 10 and the darkest pieces are about the level 6.. So the other thing is when people say like ``, My hair is brown and I want it to be ashy.'' Again. Ash is like imagine like a violety, almost greenish tint again, if I were to put a green marker over that is that going to show Not really.. So that's another thing that I explained to clients when they want this color super gorgeous and really ashy color.. But this color actually is, is you have to bleach to about here and then put in that super ashy color and it almost deepens you up so you're kind of back at that level, but you're much ashier, because you have that light base that we can add That ash to. - The way I like to imagine this color chart is again. This is the levels and then on the top and the bottom for each color there is tone.. So let's just imagine that the whole top section is gold. The whole bottom section is ashy., And then what you see here is the neutral form of each level., But the main thing that I want you guys to understand is in order to really get ash into the hair. You kind of have to be in this range. Here., You have to be like a level 7 or lighter for us to really add Ash into that color., Because naturally, these colors on --, if you look at them like on the color wheel, these colors their main color to make up this rich, intense, dark colors Is red. So if you're stripping the dark out what's first going to be exposed, is the reddish and orangish kind of tones. So a lot of times when people like ``, My hair, just like always fades to this really orangy tone.''? Not if you go to here, because if you're blonde and the hair is bright, that hair can't --, it's not gon na go back ever., But it will go back to its original tone and technically there should be a gold, a neutral and an ash for each Level., But again on something as dark as this there's not gon na, be a cool version of this and a dark version of this. It'S just so dark. And the same thing goes all the way kind of up until about a level 5ish., So from then on, then you have a little bit more range and you can, you know, be a 7 gold or a 7 ash or an 8 gold Or an 8 ash. And the point of this video is hopefully not to bore you with all of this color theory and if you're, not a hairdresser. This probably sounds like a different language, but I'm really trying to simplify it as much as I absolutely can not that you need to learn this, but it makes it so much more helpful when there's a color that you want and you can't seem to get there.. Hopefully, this will answer a lot of those questions and you yourself can determine ,''. Yes, I can actually get there'' or ``. No that's. That is what I thought I wanted that doesn't exist.'' And now probably for the last and most crucial part as me being a blonde specialist.. Obviously I lighten a lot of hair. That'S in this range that want to be here., So normally color specialists will lift you 1 to 2 colors, maybe and either again change the tone, maybe make you extra gold, maybe make you extra ashy., That's what a color specialist is is really creating these sort of Colors, but not necessarily jumping from here to here or here to here. The blonde specialist. We take you from the beginning part of this color chart to the end., And that is the trickiest thing you can do with hair, because obviously it involves a lot of science and it involves a lot of risk, which is obviously the scary part.. So if someone comes in with say level, 5 hair technically I don't care how amazing that bleach is normally. You can only lift 3 to 4 levels in one session and that's with the most amazing bleach, the most amazing add-on, such as Olaplex or Redken's pH-Bonder, and most of all, the hair needs to be healthy from the start.. This is in the best possible situation., So you're, coming with healthy hair and we're using a pH bonder in the hair, meaning that we can go a lot stronger with the bleach and your hair is still going to be healthy.. So even doing all of that, like I said, we can still only jump 3, maybe 4 levels.. So this is why, if you come in with say this level hair, you can't get there in one day.. No, I mean unless the hairdresser does multiple bonding sessions in one day, which is really not advisable and can completely damage your hair. To like its melting, point. Say you are coming in with hair. That'S already pretty fatigued you've already had a few bleaching sessions and say you're about here. If your hair is dry damaged and brittle, we really have to go lower on the developer, which means you're going to get even less lift, which means less range on this color chart.. So maybe we can only do 10 volume or 20 volume, which is only going to give you 1 level of lift, maybe two levels of lift., Doing 2 levels of lift and then with a toner you're not going to notice much difference. And this is where it becomes really frustrating with clients that don't have necessarily healthy hair, but do want to become blonde. Now. That is not to say that you can't ever get there. It just means that before you go on with the coloring sessions, you really need to heal your hair.. So obviously, if your hair is already a little bit compromised, absolutely don't get your hair bleached without Olaplex without a pH-Bonder. It really is the insurance for your hair., Because I can't stress enough how amazing and beautiful blonde hair will look on healthy hair., Because you can get someone from here maybe to here in one day and get them really blonde. But if their hair is straw and dry and damaged like it is not going to look pretty, and it's not even going to look like it's the level it actually is.. So, in order to really have that bright, gorgeous, buttery blonde hair, the hair needs to be healthy, first. And now, aside from what you can get done in the salon, there's definitely homework. You can be doing at home before even going into a color appointment., And that starts with using good healing hair products at home.. You guys have heard me talk about this countless times, but I can't stress how important it is to really heal your hair. And, as you guys know, until today, as a hairdresser for all the products I have ever tried, nothing has ever healed hair as well as The Monat system. - I can't tell you how many clients have come in with dry damaged hair, that I wasn't even able to work on. I send them home. I ask them to get on a Monat regimen and 4 to 6 weeks later they come back and we are able to get their hair finally to their dream. Color.. Even when I have one of those days that I have to turn away a client because there's nothing, I can do on their hair trust me it's just as sad for me as it is, for you guys, A I'm not making money and B, I'm not doing My duty, I'm not giving you your dream, hair and that's obviously a terrible, terrible feeling., But I promise you that when your hair is healthy, you're gon na love, your hair and that new color so much more., So guys do your homework.. I hope that this little color chart and this little explanation has helped.. I love you all so so much.. Thank you. So much for watching and I'll see you in the next video bye.

ellebangs: Guys, I'm now offering Virtual Consultations to help with all your hair questions and color formulations - To learn more, go to ellebangs.com/consultations

Karli Marie: The real question is how do we find stylists that know what they are doing like you.

Strawberry 1: Never heard such a concise and clear explanation of the 'whys' and 'how' of toning before. Thank you.

Cheryle Breaux: Hi Silvia! I'm currently going through the "blonding" process to help hide my grays. My hair was naturally brunette when I was younger but now is probably nearly all gray and I was getting a "skunk stripe" starting to show 2 weeks after I colored (not acceptable, lol). My hair dresser has been lightening my base and then doing highlights (mainly in the top) which is starting to result in some damage in the areas she has been bleaching. If you could pick one product from the Monat line to help with this, which would it be? The products are a little on the pricey side so I can't do the whole system right away. I'm currently using Joico K-pak conditioner and their purple shampoo. I'm on my 3rd lightening session and am at that kind of golden highlight stage with a darker base on bottom. Not quite sure how far into blond I intend to go...just trying to take it one appointment at a time and see how well the gray blends with the new color. Is this the best method for reaching gray coverage in your opinion? Also, I don't think she is using any kind of product like Olaplex. Should she be at this point? I love your channel by the way even though there is no way I would attempt this at home. You have provided so much education so I kind of had an idea of what to expect when I started on this journey. I do worry sometimes that even though my hair dresser is very competent, she doesn't specialize in blonding. Sorry this post is so long!

IssaColeWorld: She did a really good job breaking it down & explaining tone vs level. I feel much more comfortable now going from a level 7 to level 9 & being able to tone it correctly.

Ornella T: You have explained this amazingly!! I let my Daughter listen to listen to have an idea about the challenges when we do her hair and always get that brassy gold hair. I am a hairdresser and it is hard at times to explain it to everyone how this really works. Thank you GREAT VIDEO!!! oxox

AmericanGirl: I looked back at your older videos and realized it's been 3 years since I first found and subscribed to your channel! You've grown so much more comfortable behind the camera and have had amazing success just as I knew you would-- you go, Sylvia!

RoRo Rants: I just wanted to say that my colorist lifted my hair from medium brown to a pretty light blonde in one session, one bleach with olaplex and then a toner. My hair hadn't been bleached in about a year, so the very ends were lighter, it was an "accidental ombre" lol. But I was putting temporary purples and lavenders in it. There is a little bit of orange in the back at the roots, but they are underneath, so they do not show much. She is an awesome colorist!

Ali T: This video was super helpful and informative. It wasn’t boring at all and it was very easy to digest, even for someone like me who hasn’t gone to cosmetology school (yet lol). It answered a lot of my questions. I too want to be a blonde specialist after I complete school so I’m excited I found your channel!!

Monyonia Scott: Loved this informative video... I learned so much about why I wasn’t getting where I wanted with hair color in the past to the point I gave up and went to salon but need to do again myself so decided to school myself more than ever!! In that note not ready yet but this explains a lot of some of the tutorials I’ve watched now and I at least understand what they’re saying and what am certain terms mean now so thank u so much girl!! Stay safe and healthy

Kirsty Macfarlane: I went lighter gradually by getting more highlights in different shades until I reached the level I wanted. My natural colour is a 4 and I got my base to an 8 with 9 and 10 highlights. I've started to go a bit darker so a level 6 at the roots and throughout just for a change. I've still kept my lighter mid length to ends and because it's warm toned it blends in beautifully. I did my roots at home and I mixed quarter 7.3 and 6.35 and the rest number 6. It's actually came out a lot softer looking than when my hairdresser did it. Love your videos Silviya and you're so beautiful

Alecks Martinez: Thank you for professionally explaining colors, tones, and the bleaching process on the type of hair that a person has. Every time I go to a salon, these ladies are so rude to me when they try to explain the bleaching process.

Katherine Wold: Thank you for explaining Level 1-10 and Tone (Golden, Neutral, Ash), I understand it so well now. Would you make a step by step vid on going from 3-4 to an 8-9 and include all the products at the right time. So many videos start out explaining what they're doing and then boom they've skipped past toning or showing the hair before rinsing or the worst - begin any process and then skip past everything else to just show the hair after it's been washed, dried, cut & styled

Shelley Sinner: Thanks Silvia, and as always, I love your videos! This was very helpful to know what is attainable in one session.

Anne Roswall: Add usual, so very informative! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain all about blonde, I really enjoy your videos and learn so much about my hair color :)

Amra Ryzebol: Thank you for your simple yet informative explanations and videos. You give me the language and the knowledge to know what to ask for when I go to the hairdresser. Very valuable!

Kim S: GREAT JOB explaining that. I'm a retired hairstylist (early 90s) and I love all of your videos. You are the BEST out there for training nowadays.

Guqavieira: I love the technical explanations.. because i end up understanding from my previous mistakes.. preventing hair damage, overuse of products, overtoning.. of course not as good as a specialist but being able to make it healthier, more beautiful and as if it was done at a hair saloon (little they know the work was put into it )

Jennifer Moreland: I'm so glad I found your channel! I love how you give professional advice but break it down in a way that layman's can understand!

Anja Dikeman: This is amazing! Thanks to Youtube I no longer cry after visits to the salon! I cut and color my own hair. My hair is long, healthy and has balayage. I am happy with my hair for the first time in my life at 39 and I am saving soooo much time and money!

brian ballas: agree and disagree, as a hairdresser btw. you can lighten very dark hair without olaplex its called matrix v-light and ion powder bleach cuz both have lots of added conditioners. i do agree that after cutting through multiple layers of heavily colored hair after using non bleach color remover 2-3x the client will need to come back for lightening session(s) or if the hair isnt ready. color and tone at the level of color removal. i beleive after major color service people should use intense strengthening shampoo and conditioner and treatment like pm superstrong and alternate with a smoothing shampoo/cond, serum to seal the cuticle. cuz bond building is just a fancy word for strengthening haircare imo.

C Sobrado: So much great info! Thank you girl! ❤️

Bree Clark: Thank you so much for making this video! So helpful xx

Kimmi Robison: I watched your videos numerous times ... then I bought demi color (wella brand) and for the first time in my life I colored my own hair (I am 61 lol).... I was so fearful of the dreaded orange head ... Being a level 9~10 I was so happy with what I had learned from your videos..!!! It gave me the confidence 12 weeks later to get Wella Charm permanent 10N and 10NA and follow your Balayage video... Again thank you! All is good and I am the blonde color I love... ;)

Jaque Marro: Awesome video! I was so confused with the words when trying to dye my own hair and you opened my eyes to a lot of what I didn’t know. For example the levels.

Khushali Joshi: Finally I understood what my hair dresser was trying to tell me. I can say I literally could decipher his language now. Thank you so much. Puts an end to endless pinterest searches and unrealistic expectations

jke387: THANK YOU!!!!! FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So clearly explained, and after completely ruined hair, I got the hint this what I needed to do, but never anyone confirmed: I had beautiful, long, virgin brown hair. I was going through a rough time/quarter life crisis and wanted a change. I never wanted to be blonde, blonde, and did have a lot of damage and breakage. A friend got it in my head that she was afraid I would have to cut it. The only picture I envisioned that would be cute on me with shoulderish length hair was a dark ash blonde, like the photo in the 3:00 minute mark of the vid. I went to Ulta (again, didn't know what I was doing, because I never normally even touch my hair) asking for dark ash blonde- got an bright orange, then toned after going back, to auburny hair- beyond the opposite tone I was looking for. Fast forward two years later, and some disasters and from bad stylists..a lot of my hair broke off to my ears. Years later and now my hair is too short and can't get the look I was trying to achieve in 2016!!!! So now I have to wait for fall of 2018, or winter even, to finally get the look I was going for years prior (cuz I'm still waiting for it to grow). Had I known I would have to lighten my hair to such a light level, and then go back down to get a darker ash color, and would have saved me so many years of agony. I'm literally so depressed about my hair, everyday.

Claudia L: This video was awesome! I now finally understand (with my very dark brown hair) why the reddish tone always seems to be there that I cannot stand. I now realise why the hairdresser can't simply use the cool tone brown that I much prefer... Thank you for explaining!!

Random Stuff With Vicky: This was very useful and informative. I had never understood before about the difficulty of having darker ash colour. You explained this very well. Thank you.

twominutetips: EXCELLENT and thanks for sharing. I wish you would talk about the emerging natural gray hair phenomenon being embraced by the 40+ demographic and what NOT to do regarding colouring and what TO DO with respect to styling while growing it in. Thank you.

Sandra Sullivan: Love the breakdowns. I am so so glad you posted this! Very helpful and will watch it again.

SamanthaRaye: Hi!! Have a question, love your videos btw they are so informative and helpful when I go to the salon. My hair is very thick, comes in about a level 6-7 and naturally fades to a 5-4 mid shaft and the ends a level 3 to damn near 1. It's a rainbow. Thanks to gramps, I have a warm undertone to my hair and it pulls orangey. My stylist is veryyyy skittish with bleach, which is my norm. My hair is pretty healthy, I only bleach it twice a year with six months in between because I'm over thorough on my recovery time (lol). I'd really like to have an even all over blonde, but she normally only does an all over highlight because she's timid with it, and worried about the ends. What can we do so I can get the color I'd like? I understand with my roots being such a deeper level that I won't have an exact even all over color.

nina mells: I love ❤️ this video! First one that actually makes sense to a non-experienced person! Thx so much I'm getting highlights (practically my whole hair tho) tomorrow I'm so excited !

Bella Knight: This is so interesting to me. I plan on becoming a hairstylist in the future. I love all the information you give. Thank you!

Lethewards Sunk: That was brilliant - and finally explains why my hairdresser wasn't able to. Best explanation I've heard yet.

Emichan: thank you so much for explaining the basics of hair colour! I know I'll feel more confident and empowered the next time I get my hair coloured.

Amanda LaVoie: Great video. Trying to understand levels and tones years ago on my own was difficult and you just explained it wonderfully. Thank you.

Willona Brown: Thank you for making this video , today I got my hair color for the very first time . I was so confused on the range of color and didn’t understand truly why I couldn’t get the color I wanted. Because I had a really great color specialist to treat my hair properly and working with me to achieve the color I want. I had off black think she said 2 . I wanted this copper ginger with blonde highlights. She did a 6 like a mocha red then hopefully I get to get the copper ginger I want the next treatment.

Sarah Feldman: Weird how ashy hair is apparently in right now... I remember when I was younger and hating my ashy light brown hair, and wanting to put red in it... Now I'm starting to let more of my natural hair color grow out and I'm finding I actually like it! Turns out now it's apparently what some people are striving for anyway haha

TheTawneeVlog: I’ve always done my own hair color and cut and I’ve never had any problems. I did just recently find a stylist that I like cause she actually does what I ask her to and not what she thinks needs to be done and then runes my look. I still dye my own hair I just have someone who cuts it Loved you video

FANOLA: This information is so valuable! Thanks for breaking it down

Shania 1999: I went from a level 2 to a level 9 in one session. How my hair is still on my head and not dead is a miracle

Megan Bradley: This video was super helpful in helping me effectively communicate with my hairdresser. Thank you!!

Marie Ofstad: Hello Elle Bangs, lovely video! ^^ My natural hair color is blonde, I'm not really able to tell what tone, however I want to make it a little bit lighter. I think I have a cool skin tone (based on that my blood vessels looks blue/purplish in color), and I easily blush/have pink/red cheeks a lot of the time. So, I was wondering if you have any suggestions for what lighter blonde tone that would fit with that skin tone and also possible make the pink and redness in my skin a little bit less visible?

Lisa Rosen: Thank you so much, great advice and information! I enjoyed & appreciate what I learned from your tutorial!

Julie Kim: Thank you Ellen for the explanation! I really enjoy your videos!

40bdg: Good info, thanks! How many levels would you recommend for a contrast between highlights and lowlights to have a nice contrast but still not too harsh of a look?

Xjinette: Your video is perfect! All the answers im looking for!! Thank you so much xx

Annie B.: Oh my gosh, now I totally understand why my hair colorist said she could only neutralize some of the red by going darker!! Thank you!!

honeyyeyes: this was so helpful and informative. Thank you! That was a great explanation

Haydee M: Thanks you Sylvia for taking the time to explain it, I all your videos.! ❤️Can you make a video of how to touch up color roots with permanent color and how to refresh ends with demi or semi permanent color please

Kristyn Vang: Thank you times a million! I'm naturally a medium brown. and I get natural gold and reddish highlights. I wanted light Ash blonde balayage... My hair stylist got me to a level 9/10 (bleached 3x over two weeks) and toned it..... Still yellow/orange. I got a toner and Bam! Light Ash blonde balayage with dark roots. If course... The whole transformation took 3-4 weeks.

Becky Urrutia: I love your videos I've learned so much and grown as a stylist because your great at teaching !

Zizi Flor: Very helpful video. Helps explaining what color you want to your stylist easier. Thank you

Alycia Daniels: I LOVE all this info and you can get as technical as you want. We can all learn! I Love to DIY my hair and I'm amazed at how many really good stylists don't seem to grasp some of these things. I don't see how you can avoid screwing it up if you don't know this stuff. I always wish somebody would just say, "No. You can't use a toner on your dark blonde brassy hair." You've also made me understand when to do it myself because if I go to a salon, it will be too many steps and too much money! So thank you. :-)

MsStaceyBrooke: Fabulous explanation for non hair professionals to learn how to express the color you want to your hair colorist.

Lars Bartha: Thanks for this, great informative video and easily explained

Josie Koerner: Thanks this finally makes sense. I thought I naturally had too much red in my hair to get really blond , mine always turned yellow , even with ash toners.

Tina Mitchell: I am a level 5 or 6 md brown - brown. Thank you for explaining. I learned the colors in cosmetology school years ago. But it is a nice refresher as I am retired hardresser.

Esthela Quezada: You made this so easy to understand, thank you so much

Amy Hoop: you are amazing! Thank you so much for the teaching lesson so I know what to expect when going into a salon and wanting blonde

ari: When I had virgin hair (never dyed/bleach etc) I was about a 5/6? I went to a salon to get a blonde and it turned out about the way you have blonde here! I went from a 5/6 to 10 with tone in one session, guess I got lucky :)

Maria Pettigrew: I did a cut and bleaching for my hair about a year ago and my hair dresser said she loves my hair (because it didnt turn into that orange-y colour most brunettes get because I dont have that red pigment as strongly as others do and because it takes a lot to damage it) It made me ecstatic to say the least.

Hanna Pajanen: This is the one youtube hair video that everyone who’s even thought about bleaching their hair should see!!

Vi Holiday: I'm a natural blonde, but I've been dying my hair for about six years (from yellow green to blue black with some red between ) and I'm thinking about going back to blonde, how difficult do you think this would be?

MissAdamLambert888: OMG you talked about the desired Ashy Brown hair - thank you sooo much! <3

Laura Diaz: I'm glad I was blessed to go from black to brown hair to the blonde I always wanted in one week!!! I took pictures of me doing this process so it is possible to go dark to beautiful blonde..

professionalgiraffe: Great video! My hair is a natural level 6 but I like to have my roots lightened to an ashy level 7 or 8. To avoid brassiness, do I need to bleach the hair out before applying the level 7 or 8 colour?

MsNaaviaa: I love to listen to you! Your knowledge and tips, nice language, way how you speak and appearance. Just a pleasure. Your hair and makeup are beautiful! Thank you for these videos. For people without knowledge is hard to understand that we cannot turn blond from black hair in one day without damage and how complicated all the processes are. Do you do something like online customer help? I don't know what suits me and whenever I go to hairsalon I'm not happy at all :(

꧁ marcipan ꧂: Thanks for this, Sylvia, cuz one time I ended up looking like Leeloo from The Fifth Element trying to go from dark to blonde. My hairstylist did fix it, but lesson learned.

MzzInternacional415: I'm not a stylist but i understood it all! Thank you So informative

G Mann: really well explained.. thank you so much

Robyn Mcconnell: If it wasn't for you I would not be able to do my hair at home. I follow what you say and my hair turns out beautiful every time. Thank you so much

Just videos: Best explanation I've ever found online, thank you!

Skallia Ray: i tried to go from a level 4-5 to a level 10 over night and I had to chop about 4 inches off my already short hair because of the damage. PLEASE take the advice to go slow with lightening your darker hair! you might not be able to go back to work or school with bleach blonde white hair, BUT you won't have the chop off your length over night like i did.

Martha Alavez: This is so informative and helpful. Thank you.

Mar Bel: Very well explained thank you ☺️

Simone: I naturally had VERY dark brown hair. Probably a level 9. I wanted to bring out the slight brown in my hair more so I asked for VERY subtle warm brown highlights. I ended up with red and red brown two toned highlights that have now faded to more of a chest nut brown . I believe my hairdresser used semi permanent dye. Personally I feel like my overall hair is very warm now. On my brown neutral skin tone I think it looks kind of unnatural. 2 questions: 1.can I dye my hair by myself at home to be around a level 7 2. if not and I have to get it done what do I ask for to achieve the look I want and that will look good on my skin tone

Brigitte Bardot: What do you recommend when getting a touch up, second day hair of freshly washed and conditioned? Or does this not at all influence the lifting process.

Lizz Flowers: Such a useful video! I laughed a little because I was recently in Sweden and I think that chart needs 2 or 3 more levels on the lighter side for them!

Makeup Euphoria: Very helpful info. Would love to see more videos like this. Also, love the eye shadow color you are using. Would you care to mention what it is. Or maybe do a tutorial on this look and the products u used. Thanks.

S R: Didn't know you can lift 3-4 levels in one session. I have a level 4 now and want to get to a 7, so maybe that's not so out of reach as I thought. My level 4 comes from a box dye, so I know it will be harder to get to my goal, though.

Sarah Maley Farris: What do you do to keep your hair healthy so you don't need the healing stuff? I am wanting to go lighter. I switched from Living Proof shampoo to a purple one recently bc it turned brassy. I shampoo once a week with a high quality deep conditioner. I try to keep heat styling to a minimum and use heat protectant and a UV spray. Is that enough? I just decided that I am going to try to grow my hair out past my shoulders again.

Celize Chu: I swear if I had a teacher like you I would have became a stylist. So interesting

Wendi Szaiff: I really enjoy knowing the language of a hairdresser. It totally helps with educating myself in getting better at home results.

Michelle Rua: Incredibly helpful, thank you!

Jessica Gonzalez: Gosh!! Your amazing so well educated and truly a master of your craft thank you for sharing your knowledge

T i k å: It took me 1yr to go from black Indian hair to platinum ice white blonde. It was worth the wait.

alice lovlygrl1: my hair is extremely healthy and when i went in to have my hair brought from about a 5 (med dark brown) to a maroon red i knew id have to bleach and it would take a while. yet when i went in the first time she just put the color on top to make it have the almost shine of red which was exactly what i said i didnt want. the next time (about 1.5 2 weeks later bc she wanted to let my perfectly healthy hair rest) i came in she only beached part of my hair weaving in the darker and lighter colors which wasnt a problem except that she left the entire bottom of my hair (about 1-2 in underneath) alone and didnt bleach any of it so while the top was finally red the bottom was still a reddish brown which again is noy what i wanted... i have yet to go back to get my roots touched up because i dont want to end up having to do it 2x again and spending another $120 (+20 for a cut so $140) to do my hair how i wanted. i wet to her bc she was suppose to be good and relatively cheap. for a student thats a lot of money also she only used a 20 mby 30 vol even though like i said my hair is extreamly healthy and i havnt done anything besides cut it for about 2-3 years and befor that id only dyed it 3 different colors one being black to bring my hair back dark after going blond in middle school lives in east ks, went to small salon instead of doing it myself

Caena's Closet: I have thick, very dark brown hair and I go to platinum in one treatment.  I only do the roots and it takes a couple hours, but no Olaplex and it is a 10 when it's done.  Your swatches did not go near as light as my hair is, by the way.  Obviously, it would be a different story if you have long hair and it was all dark, but you didn't make that distinction.

Shell Bell: I am about a level 5 -6 and I can get to a 9 by myself at home - but I have super fine hair. I think that's why - it lifts so easily. Hairdressers never believe me and are always amazed when it happens ;)

Lucy: Thank you for another informative video. I've just put on a level 8 ash blonde on my level 7 (I think) orange hair (after bleaching) so fingers crossed it will make my hair a nice ashy blonde now.

22_Beautiful_soul22: Old video but my hair lifts super easy I had medium to dark brown and walked out with blonde like near platinum one sitting one bleach session. Minimum breaking of the hair. The person was floored

Lily Howard: THANK YOU SO MUCH! This was super helpful☺

Joanne Cosmo: Thankyou for this video Silvia! You are so smart and know exactly what you are talking about , your videos are so informative, Love your hair! You look awesome and Gorgeous as ever!!

Zainab Zainab: Love how knowledgeable you are. The best video on the subject on YouTube

Lily G: I agree mostly, but there are exceptions... My hair is fine(might help lighten more?)and a level 5 or maybe 5.5 ash... One session of bleach at salon got me very very close to level 10. I didn't want white blonde so she made sure to rinse on time. Coarse/thick hair is probably more challenging ...

Crystal Marie: Girl!!! You are getting more beautiful by the video lol but seriously of coarse I'm not one of those people who automatically view looks before brains. If on the beautiful hair and makeup world that I truly do enjoy watching and keeping up with; u are most definitely going to be one of those women just like Cindy Crawford that has the most youthful and vibrant appearance that only gets better and better. But on a more personal level u seem to be such a sweet caring beautiful person inside and out. I love ur vids thank u for all of your advice! ❤️

Natalie Gage: Hi love! I would love to see a video about how to lighten the ends of your hair... would this be the same as a balayage? I'm a platinum blonde but my ends are a bit darker from previous low lights, some of my natural is still in my hair on the ends. I've tried applying a bleach with 20 developer for 15 min to brighten but didn't do much for the dark pieces. Should I increase my volume to 30 on the dark parts to lighten them to match my roots? Would love suggestions

Morning Star: You are so informative and the way you explain things is the best!!. Thank you
