Hi everyone welcome back to my channel, i'm coco, and this is coco's hair solutions. Today'S topic is going to be one i'm sure you're not going to want to miss. It is how to restore your long wig to looking like it was brand new, so stay tuned. So today we're going to cover how i managed to keep my long, wigs, looking fresh and brand new and have that wonderful wavy blow in the air, smooth silky look to them now, there's going to be some supplies that you will need. First of all, you want to have a steamer, a steamer of some sort. Now i happen to have this kind has a large reservoir. It'S a rowenta clothing steamer, it's not made for wigs, it's just made for steaming clothes, but the thing i like about it is: it has an on off trigger so that when you push on the button it will start to produce steam and when you release it, When and it'll stop and that's really important when you want to start and moving around your wig you'll also need some form of item that will hold your wig to a countertop. You need to make sure that it's nice and solid, you might have a tripod. You um, but i find that this keeps it attached to the countertop really well. You'Ll need a brush and a comb. Now a fine toothed comb is what i recommend and have not the rat tail kind, because you need both sizes and you also need to be able to hold it without getting your hands in the stream of the steam. And then i have a fine bristled. But it's all plastic it's made by conair. There you go and you can find. I got it at walmart um, but it it doesn't have the holes. You could have the holes in it if you wanted, but the thing about it that i like is that it has a real fine, bristle configuration and, and i'll tell you about that when we run into it. Of course, you're going to have to have your wigs and you'll need some kind of a head form, whether it's one of the canvas forms or whether it's a styrofoam form. You just need to have something to hold your wig on and then, of course, you've got to have something like you can use straight pins there. You go straight pins like what i've used. You can use t-pins. I have some of those and they work. The last thing that you're going to need are is going to be something like clips so clips to hold the hair up and out of your place, because we're going to section off your wig in order to make it look and to address all the areas that Have the damage and what i'm the kind of damage i'm talking about is called friction frizz and so we're gon na look at that um and it's part of what we pay for for having longer wigs longer wigs have a tendency to wear down the fabric. I mean excuse me: the fibers break down a whole lot quicker because the fibers move across your clothing across your skin and across each other, and then, of course, if you wear scarves and all of that, so what you're going to see with friction frizz is that The ends of the hair fibers are going to start to look frazzled. Let'S see, i'm going to hold that up against. Well, i guess this is going to be good enough. It starts to look frayed and straw-like, and then they tangle really easy and then, when they start, tangling you're going to have fibers, get stuck and be pulled and then you're going to end up having spring-like fibers created from stretching pulling those knots out. That'S why it's really important not to pull on your on your hair fibers when you brush brush them - and i don't know if you can see this as well, but they're starting to get frayed and then, when you run a comb room, especially a fine-tooth comb. You can tell that the comb doesn't want to go through it very well. So that's that's a sign that your wig could be using um benefit from from the steam application. So now this this application and this process works really well on longer, wigs very short, wigs, pixies they're. It'S not going to work as well, because there's not enough hair fiber. Now you can smooth around a smooth, pixie hairs that are about an inch long, and for that i have a really small small hair brush, but typically what the process that i'm using here right now is only for the longer wigs and longer toppers. So what you want to do first, is you want to place your wig on top of your little support, stand here and then comb it out? You want to make sure that you comb all the knots out make sure that they are laying flat and i've already gone through and combed through this one, so you're going to want to make sure now this is a topper. This is my um poly young, curlable topper, and it's due for a treatment um. You see this hair right here, see that that hair that wants to spring up. Let me pull that closer. You can see that it's like a spring there it is, you can see it yeah. Now i'm going to cut that off, because that has been damaged from stretching. So i'm just going to take my scissors and i'm just going to snip it off close close to the scalp or the the cap, all right. So once you have your wig all combed out, then you'll need to section it off now right here i have another one of my poly young curlable toppers that um i'm going to do, but you can see where i started on this side of the wig or The topper and i took a section about an inch and a half to two inches on the top and about an inch and a half to two inches on the uh length, and i came across the top and i clipped it and put it in here. Then i went to the next section and i pulled out another about well probably about this wide and then i twirled it up and i put a clip in it and then i went and did that all the way around the top of the topper. I used different kinds of clips. You can see. I used this kind of clip that kind of clip i used. You know clips like that. Pretty blingy clips doesn't matter what kind you use just as long as you get it up and away. So you can see. I went around here and i, and actually, as i did, clip up all these sections, i started to attach them to each other. This is where i ended, and i finished with another blingy now then, what you do is you go ahead and you make sure that all of your, your um lower hairs are combed through again because moving them around and separating them will have them tangle up again And so now i've gone ahead and i've turned on my steamer and it's warming up for me once that light stops flashing, i can go ahead and push the button to steam. Now this this particular model has a um. Oh has a has two adjustments, one for steaming and one for turbo, so i'm not using the turbo on my wig, i'm using the the lower the lower level. So i'm gon na press that now it's ready for me to go ahead and use. So i'm going to start where i last let off. Well, it really wouldn't matter, but i'm going to start over here. So i'm going to take my wide part of the comb, the wide part, and now i'm going to use the thin part, and i am also going to lay that flat. The next thing i'm going to do is i'm going to take this product, which is a rest restorer for wigs and it's a lusterizer and conditioner, and i'm going to spray it on that lower part of this section and then i'm going to take my brush start Right about here grab my steamer okay, i'm pressing the button, and now i'm going to just move it back and down and as i go, i'm taking my brush and i'm curling it down like this. As i'm doing it, i'm going to do that again. Start up high and, as you can see, what i'm doing is i'm placing my steam steamer against the bristles so that it gets relatively close. Now this this steamer and i apologize it's not a roenta, it's an electrolux and i got it off amazon. It has this attachment, which is a brush, and it's meant for using on certain fabrics and upholsteries, and you can use it or you don't have to. I found that it kept my distance away because i did not want. I did not want my wig hair fibers to be up against this plate because that's going to get too hot for what i need. So what i'm going to do now is i'm going to check, check this and it's feeling nice and smooth and if i felt like it needed to do a little bit more, which i'm thinking it might, i might take the fine-tooth comb and, let's just do it Again, i've got the trigger on, and i'm just running that against that. Okay, that feels much nicer. That does it feels much nicer and it looks much nicer. So i'm going to move on to the next part. Now, just another section, and when you pick up that next section that still needs to be treated you're going you're going to see that it makes a big difference, doing this scheming, okay, so we're just gon na move around see. Now, if you have a wig that you're going to put any kind of curl - or that has a lot of curl in it, that's a different technique that you would want to use. So this technique that i'm showing you right now is only good on hairstyles that have a tendency to be a little bit on the straighter side. Okay, so now that we're done that whole lower row, we're going to go back to where i left off. With my clips, because that's where we're going to begin and because we put put we began over here and we laid all of our sections on top of each other, this is where we're going to unfold them and and be able to work with each section properly. So i'm going to take my clip out and i'm just going to repeat the exact same process, make sure that this is combed out without pulling on it or snagging it i'm going to spray it with this conditioner and then i'm going to okay and that's looking Really good so then, i'm just going to continue with the rest undo all of these sections and we'll fast forward through this now, depending on your wig or your topper, and how oops how it's, how it is trimmed around your face. You might want to make sure that when you do treat this area see how this is kind of layered, it's layered a little bit around my face. So what i'm going to do is i'm going to go ahead and put my treatment product on there, but i'm going to comb it in a different way when i steam it i'm going to comb it this way and come towards the front of the face. Okay, we're going to do that again, grab that one more time: yeah! Okay, because what we've got is on this particular topper. You can see where the sides are trimmed to come and caress around the neckline, and so i want to keep that same style, because taking taking and adding steam to the fibers is going to change how they lay. So this is the versa fiber one and now all it is is just it feels so smooth it's damp. It is damp, so we have to let it sit and dry completely before we wear it or do anything more to it and at this point i'm not going to comb it anymore. I want to show you too, if you do this, for your um on a wig like right here, you can see, you can see, i've got sections all pulled up. I did the top crown area. First, i pulled those up in sections. Then i did the ear tab ear place around the back of the neck or the head and around to the other ear tab. Then what i did is i sectioned off a lower part and left of the nape, because that's what i would work with um with a full wig. I would need to have uh treatment on these lower fibers and then section on my way up, because these lower sections on wigs are going to get bear the brunt or the the lion's share of all of the abuse, and so they're really going to need some Treatment by themselves, you don't want to just do the top um, but anyway, so you'd want to make sure and have all of those sectioned off, and here is another topper that i did earlier today and what it looks like this is so soft and silky. I can just run my fingers through it and it was really tangled. So if you let let the hairs fibers dry completely before you start running a brush through it or combing it and make sure your wigs are, are clean before you start doing this process wash them and then go ahead and and treat them with this, so that Pretty much takes care of how you would handle this. It'S just a little bit of it's like curling, your hair in a way but you're using steam. So you do want to be careful in handling that steam is extremely hot and be careful how you, how much curl and bend you put into your hair as you're steaming it, because if you lift it up and you've got a roll, let's say: you've got this Kind of of brush and you're you're putting steam on that you're going to have an obvious bump in that fiber when you finish it or take that steam off of there. So you want to be very, very careful, especially when you use small rolls or small, rounded brushes. So thank you so much for joining me today. I hope this was informative and that you learned something be sure to leave me any comments and subscribe um. Thank you. So much for joining me today, we'll see you next time. Bye,
