lavendel: Maltese is such an interesting language. It’s a Semitic rooted language that’s currently about 1/3 Arabic and nearly the rest Italian. This is because Malta and Sicily were colonized by Arabs during the Abbasid empire and it was turned into part of the Emirate of Sicily and then later conquered by the Normans, re-Christianized, and Latinized. So the Maltin may be a mixture of the natives (potentially Phoenician relatives?), Italians, and Arabs. And it’s a darn cute mix if I might add ‍♀️

About the language: I'm Italian, and it was funny because some words are exactly like italians' ones, and so it was a little weird because for 80% of time I can't understand what you're saying, and then in the middle of the speech I heard some words that I know.
