So how are you feeling My girl'bout to get her hair braided up in the sto? The sto.? I don't know yo.. I don't know you gon na look, weird. [ Gloria ] No. [ Jess ] Man, you won't like it. (, laughs, ), [ Gloria ]. I don't think I've seen an Asian in my life with this.. You gon na be an Asian woman with some braids. [ Jess ] And some hoops. With a black man.. I'M gon na get it the worst.''. Look at her. Look at him'' [ Gloria ] Yeah, it's 2019. [ Jess ]. They don't do that anymore.! You never seen black Twitter ( laughs, ), [, Matthew, ]. You got ta explain to Gloria all the steps you doing to her head. [ Jess ]. So right now I'm just- [ Gloria ], Separating. [ Jess, ] Parting.. You don't wan na go straight back'cause. I don't want you to look like you straight out of prison. [, Matthew ], Why that's dead, look man. Hard, knock, life., [, Jess, ] No.? Oh, I feel good., (, laughs, ), (, funky, music, ), [ Gloria ], You don't like little- [, Jess ]. Oh, I got you. The edges. [ Gloria ], Oh really, [, Matthew ]. Did you tell Gloria what edges are [ Jess ]? It'S just your baby hairs! You just wave the baby, hairs. (, funky, music, ) [ Gloria ]. Oh, I like how that feels., [ Matthew, ] You're, saying that now., Oh wow., (, laughs, ), [, Matthew ]. Does it feel weird Yes. [ Matthew, ], Oh you're, getting your first layer. ( laughs, ) [ Gloria ]! Oh my god.. I'Ve never felt this feeling in my life. [ Jess ]. Am I hurting you [ Gloria ]? No, it's not that.! It'S just a different feeling., [, Matthew, ]. You need to pull that giant. Jess., (, laughs, ), [, Jess, ], No Matt.! You know what I'm afraid of The pulling my hair making me look more Asian'cause it'll go like this. [, Matthew, ], Nah ain't, nothing gon na happen to your wide screen: eyes. ( laughs in shock ). What the- [ Gloria ]? How long does it take to do a full set of those tiny braids [ Jess ], Like five hours. [ Gloria ], Damn., (, funky, music, ), [, Matthew, ]? You know what hangtime is No. [ Matthew, ] Hangtime is how long does your hair hang from the back of your head.? Oh really, I didn't know that. (, electric music, ), [, Matthew, ]. Ah, real talk, Jess., It's just me and you talking. Gloria, can't hear she thinks she gon na look like you., [, Jess ]. I think she's gon na look nice. [, Matthew, ], You don't mean that.. I absolutely do., You told me.. I pictured it. [, Matthew, ], You pictured it. I pictured it too. [ Matthew ]. What did you think taking account the size of her head. [ Jess ]? I had to think about that. (, laughs ), How many braids you want there. [, Matthew ]. What did you think when we first asked you? I wasn't even worried about the head part. I was like ``. They want me on camera'', (, laughs, ), [, Matthew, ], Yeah, it's starting to hurt now.. I feel like it triggers the tear ducts. [ Matthew, ], Yep. Jess go all up in there. Let'S see how close Jess gets to your head., It's like a good pain though.. You know what I mean Like when someone gives you an Indian burn. That'S what it feels like on my head.. Actually. Can you give me an Indian burn right now, [ Matthew, ] No. Alright. So why you burning my baby's hair, [, Jess ], Oh gosh, to secure it, so it doesn't come out.. I just put mousse on her hair though. [ Gloria ]. What do you think so far? It'S just one braid. [ Gloria ], I know. But what do you think of the braid? I got ta see a few more. See how I feel. I'm scared man.. So when we make videos like this, I really legit begin scared, because I don't want my people thinking I'm trying to offend my own people.. But I want you to experience like you know what I'm saying., ( laughs, ) [, Matthew, ] Right so after she gets braids well. First of all, she ain't gon na know how take care of that joint. I can tell you that., It's not hard.! All she got ta do is tie it up on the top with a scarf or something and then wake up take the scarf off.. If it starts looking to go frizzy, she can put some mousse on it.. Mousse will weigh it. Down. [, Matthew, ]. Now that right there that's the Asian do., What does it feel like? What is it equivalent to? It feels like- [, Matthew ] That looks like you were trying really hard to hold in a fart., ( laughs ). Sometimes it's fine, but then you get to certain parts. Ew. ( screams in pain, ), [, Matthew, ] Dang. I can see the muscle in Jessica's arm flaring., (, laughs, ), You put muscle in that braid yo.. Is it hurting babe? Can you give me your hand? [ Matthew, ] No.You ain't, squeezing my hand. Please. ( screams in pain ). It hurt that bad though Just feels tight. [, Matthew, ]. Ah, she grabbing her eyes. Yeah.. I want you to know how my sisters be feeling just for them. You know to look nice and stuff the pain they got. Ta go through just to feel nice.. How much does it hurt to get iddy bitty, braids, [, Matthew, ] Them small ones? They hurt. They hurt where you need to take aspirin.. What [ Matthew ] Take the smallest bit of hair out your head and pull it hard., Pull it really really hard.. Oh it hurts.. I was crying in the chair when I had really small braids. [ Gloria ], Alright. So at this point I'm not letting Matt look at me until I'm completely finished., I'm literally looking at a blank wall. [ Gloria ], I mean it just has to be fair.. I'M actually getting my hair twisted after you're done. [ Gloria ] Yeah.. You look like a mop., See now she's trying to go hard. Yo., [, Gloria ], Alright, so Matt waited patiently, and I was like 3 braids that he waited on right. Yep. Yeah I've been waiting for a while man.. So can I look [ Gloria ] Yeah.? Oh snap., (, laughs, ), Wow., Wow., [, Gloria ] Yeah, you like it. I don't wan na, say anything yet ,'cause. I want your natural reaction. [ Gloria ]. But do I look different from when you stopped looking Yeah? Oh yeah definitely. [ Gloria ], So it was worth the wait. It definitely looks different. [, Matthew, ]. You got your hair in the drier. Now., Don't do that.. It makes you look you practicing your martial arts.. Can you not ( laughing ) ( drum roll ), [, Matthew, ], You just got to finish up.. Can you get my hoops [ Jess ] Yeah definitely give her her hoops. ( laughs ). It just said it all., [, Matthew, ], Alright, Jess.. First, how you think, How you think you feel about what you did, I'm very confident in what I did. [ Matthew, ]. Alright, don't look yet., Look at the camera. How'd, you feel. What do you expect? I'M excited. [ Matthew, ], You're excited., My heart's racing. [, Matthew, ]; Alright, look in the mirror. Whoa. ( screams, ), (, laughs, ) Jess.! Oh my god. I can't believe this is me.. Oh my god. ( funky, music ), Oh my god, we're gon na take. So many pictures of us. - Oh my gosh., [ Matthew, ] Check your hangtime. ( screams. ), You can swing it.. If you want, you can bring it around.. I can't believe this is me.. This is a genuine 100 %, genuine reaction., (, laughs, ), [, Matthew ]. You wan na go home and show your parents Yo. My parents are gon na freak., [ Matthew, ] They're, calling you mother.. I don't know that was on the door.. Oh, it's pretty. [ GLoria ], You like it Yeah. [ Gloria ], Really That is so pretty. [ Gloria ]. Ah thank you. ( beep ) ( dog bark, ) [ Gloria ], Hey. ( laughing ) ( laughing ) Funny., Alright. So what does this feel like to you? I personally think it looks dope. Before y'all comment. My head, our channel is really based on us experiencing each other's culture, so no one's trying to be like anyone else.. I really wanted her to see what it felt like.. ( laughs, ) Yeah'cause, like all the women he grew up with only women in his house did this growing up and I've never done this. So it's completely new experience., So y'all saw she go the fake hair.. I know my hair stops like here. And you still got more than that.. You can whip your hair back and forth.. I know. ( whip ) Ouch., Oh snap, that was heavy., I'm sorry. Gosh.. To me. It means a lot that Gloria's willing to experience these things and try all these things to have fun. This week. I really wanted it to be experienced and it looked dope yo.. If you even try to smile, it feel like your head'bout to separate.. Try go like this. Why'd, you do that.. Do you ninja's think that my hair looks good And should I keep rockin' it? I don't know how long I'm gon na last with it.? How long do you bet -'Til you get beat up., (, laughs, )! That'S how long you keep it., I mean if you get beat up it's not my fault. ( gasps ), It's not., I'm sorry.! You got ta teach me how to fight.. You can't fight, You are Asian and you can't fight. What is that My nails? I thought that was like crouching tiger., But anyway ninjas. We really hope you guys enjoy this.. It'S been really fun.. That was the most fun video that we filmed probably. And shout out to Matt's sister for artistic styles.. She literally is the bomb.com and she's in Baltimore. So you guys should go check her out., Alright ninjas as always.. I got the slice.. I look real nice. Ha., Ha. Ha

Lindsay Scribner: This is literally the difference between appreciation and appropriation!!! A perfect example! Love this.

SaboOne Magsino: Rice after seeing herself in the mirror immediately hugs Slice' sister. That's genuine appreciation.

Crystal Bae's TV: I wish rice was in africa with us. If she walked around with those braids Africans love it . It shows people appreciate our culture but then America is a whole other story.. We love you Rice!!❤️

Nickie Nicole: As a black woman with a half Vietnamese teen, I really appreciate seeing this.

Sweet Potato: It’s sad how much she has to apologize ppl now days attack u for anything.

IreansBoobs: Yo their children are going to have so much fun experiencing both of their cultures side

VeryJoable: It suits her. And you know, experiencing each other's cultures is a great way to bond!

AzaleaKxwaii: I think this is cultural APPRECIATION

Shut The Fuck Up Whore: I'm black and see no issue with non-black people wearing braids. As long as they aren't using it to mock us or anything of that sort then it's fine. It would be different if a non-native American person dressed up as a native American for Halloween or something of that sort because that's mocking the culture, not appreciating it.

Azizi Cuddles: The amount of skill and patience it takes for these black hairstylists to get these cornrows....damn MAD RESPECT. and she looks soooo bomb. This video makes me so happy. This is 200% appreciation, not appropriation. She is not stealing cultural ideas for clout or to jump on a trend. She has is actual respect for the culture in its entirety.

NamiiCho: Pls give slice a korean kpop hairstyle with his own hair also glory be lookin fiiiiine both your parents are so cute T__T

Khushi Pandit: I'm Indian and I used to braid my hair like this occasionally. Like everyone does these hairstyles for parties nd stuff. I guess its only offensive in America. .

orangeteaxgreenjuice: my mom always made me braids like this when i lived in latin america as a kid , but when i went to the US people started seeing it as offensive ... i miss my braids so much :(

tiffany mayfield: As a black woman, I appreciate this video! Love you guys together!

Jordan Michelle: What a work of art!!! My heart goes out to the Black community because I can't imagine the time and effort this takes. Absolutely beautiful!

Bontle Selby: See this, I’m not mad at. This isn’t cultural appropriation. It’s cultural appreciation and they’re giving credit to the black community. It’s not hard to do this. The braids look good on her & this experience was dope.

Carmelita Fong: The comments are so confusing. I agree that there's a difference between cultural appropriation and appreciation and people in the comments say that as long as you appreciate black people and their culture it's fine. But how will you know the difference when you see someone on the street? It's not like a white girl wearing cornrows will wear a shirt that says I'm wearing this because I think it's beautiful and because I appreciate the culture and I am interested in it. Even the people who are appreciating black culture are being attacked because you can't tell by looking at someone.

Anastachios: This video is 2 years old. I remember when it first came out and the comment section was a lot different and a lot more wholesome back then. Now it’s super toxic :(

SunnyNutQueerios: I’m confused by the “it’s cultural appreciation as long as you give credit” ideology. You do realize people also exist outside of social media, right ? So while they can easily give credit online, someone at the grocery store or the mall isn’t going to know they gave credit on their social media accounts.. So do they need to wear a sticker on their forehead or hand out pamphlets whenever they go out for it to still count as appreciation? I’m just so confused...

Cockney Rebel: Watching this video really makes me appreciate what my girlfriend's poor mum has to go through every night, with my girl, who's got hair all the way down to her ass- (maybe even past it), and with her sister. I'VE gotta learn to do this for babygirl, ready for when she comes over from the U.S., to stay with me, and I'm definitely NOT looking forward to that part of her trip!

claudia pfeffer: This is the content that needs to be in the media...THIS content!!! Where they appreciate each others cultures

Moonesday D: I guess Rice hasn't seen Tibetans. I'm Asian American and in my culture our headdress consists a lot of different types of braids. My mom used to do our traditional braids in my hair a lot when I was young. From experience it was pretty painful. She looks really good.

Roxanne Soucy: My sister is jamaican and I have a lot of love and appreciation for the culture, but got attacked for wearing dreadlocks and being white... It's sad some people feel defensive because I did not do this to be disrespectful. Thank you for spreading the love between cultures.

𝐗𝐢𝐚𝐨𝐣𝐮𝐧 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩: I love how couples like them show cultural appreciation and learning more about each other's culture and etc

Superior Panda: I love everything about this! It's the appreciation she showed for me

Diana Munyigula: I'm from Africa and I'm shocked hair is an issue in the US. Lol! Rice you looked amazing. Do what you want and what makes you happy

teahgurl: This is not appropriation. . . It’s when culture is hijacked and NOT appreciate or given credit to the creators... This education and appreciation. I LOVE IT

CHRISTIANA: I’m not mad, this isn’t cultural appropriation this is cultural appreciation and I love em .

Stephanie Meza: I love you guys! you’re the most genuine couple out there right now. I love your girls energy, always so positive, and just living in the moment. You guys match each others vibes

Jazlynn Nicole R: I frkn absolutely love her hair style on her! She looks so frkn adorable and it brings out her facial features so beautifully yo! Absolute love!! As well, I love the fact you two experience eachothers cultures! I love watching you guys. You two are so frkn great especially together!! Sincerely, Jazlynn. P.s love you guys!

Lolop Callulu: before anyone comments about cultural appropriation, as a black woman I would like to say that these braids look wonderful on her and that she’s appreciating our culture and loving it too

Jabar Smith: This was the first video I saw on this channel. The rest is history. Hooked by subscribing and becoming an avid consumer of your entertainment! Love you guys a lot!

FreyaWarrior: It’s awesome that you guys are sharing each other’s cultures!

mkyuigi: Some people in the comments doesn't know the difference between *APPROPRIATION* and *APPRECIATION* and it shows :/

Savannah Arisugawa: This is the perfect example of cultural appreciation, I love this video and how you guys share your culture with each other

Jupiism: It’s obviously this isn’t cultural appropriation. She did her research, Got it done from a black professional and etc. She appreciates the culture.

LoveoftheDark Fiber Arts: I love that you two are experiencing each others culture so respectfully and having fun with it too. Thanks for sharing yourselves with us! Those braids look amazing on you!

Maryll Lemmens: I love how they embrace each others culture ❤️

Sunshine🌼: She looks good with cornrows!!!!! Should be a style she wears often. Personally I think that as different cultures we can try out different things from each other. We are all brothers and sisters in Gods eyes. Personally I'm African American and I love Indian culture. There jewelry and clothes are beautiful. Lets experiment but at the same time giving props to the cultures who came up with it.

cheuchicha: yall can't get mad. she gave credit to the black owned business slices sister.

shuppypuppy17: I don’t blame her for apologizing so much, the comments now a days will attack you...

《píхííєhσllσws》: OMG SHE LOOKS AMAZING THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY!! I’m black and Asian and I knew I had to subscribe

LaR!3na: She looks fireee <3 and your sister is so talented! The hands that touch your hair are so important. In Hispanic culture, we say whoever is doing your hair can put bad energy in to in if they are negative or envy you. You can tell your sister loves what she does.

Eva is pogh : "Appreciation is when someone seeks to understand and learn about another culture in an effort to broaden their perspective and connect with others cross-culturally. Appropriation on the other hand, is simply taking one aspect of a culture that is not your own and using it for your own personal interest." Here is what I found.

dEstiNy wiNston: She looks amazing. It's culture appreciation.

Baby doll tt: I love how she’s trying to learn about our culture and still act like herself. Most girls that isn’t black get a black girl hairstyle and act black.

Cassi Jay: She looks so gorgeous!! Honestly she should get these more often they look so good!

Kingdom Lyricz: I LOVE how it turned out. You look SO good!!! I really want to get my hair braided now!!!

fancydeer: This is coming from a place of love and learning. She wants to know more about a big part of her husband's culture and he wants to share it with her. ❤️

Isis Patton: Also for her future children she'll experience what her child feels and she can understand and appreciate the race of her husband and half of her child

Christina Wolfe: I love this. As a black young women I'm glad to see someone else enjoying black culture and apperiacting it. I don't see this as someone who's not black and not educated in the culture trying to make it their own. I kinda understand why he explains himself through out the video. But I also would love to see other cultures not b upset when someone appreciates our culture and doesnt take it the wrong way.

Riana Conklin: Loved this! When I was in high school my best friend was Latina and she did my hair in tiny cornrows, it was slightly painful I totally agree, but it was also so friggin cute as well, so I feel your pain having it done for the first time, but it really does look mad cute! Loved this video so much! Thank you so much for sharing, I enjoyed it so much, and it totally reminded me of my teenage years lol, you guys have great content, and I really look forward to watching your videos ❤❤

Marria Logan: watching your content makes me feel better even.if I've had a shitty day and that's all that matters you guys doing a good job

Alyssa Lizette: “You’ve never seen black Twitter?” Ohhhh noooooo

Mel Mel :: The reason why cultural appropriation is a problem in America is because when people from different cultures wear things from their cultures ( such as braids and clothing from Asian cultures ) they are unprofessional, weird, and we experience a lot of ignorance from white people. But when white people wear the same things it is cool and fun and trendy. In other countries wearing braids may not be that big of a deal because black people don’t get discriminated because of it. This video IS NOT upsetting as a black women because she is being respectful and they explain that they know the problem with non black people wearing braids. They also mentioned how their whole channel is about getting to know each other’s cultures. This video is not problematic but really wholesome as slice is showing rice what black women have to do because of their natural hair. ❤️❤️

Tay JMN: She doesn't need to apologize. People from Africa don't mind it at all.

Mal Tal: If she’d gone and made this video without her bf, everyone would be losing their minds . I mean they are already but whatever people are always goin to find reasons to bitch and moan to feel superior .

Baby Bunny: Okei, Rice looks absolutely beautiful with those braids- like- she was already gorgeous, and these just make her that much more beautiful- And Slice's sister did an absolutely amazing job!

Shizukanexen: Ya'll are beautiful~ I loved experiencing this with you!

Luna Kitana: I love this channel this is how you share and APPRECIATE CULTURE.!!

Destiny Martin: Love y’all because y’all always Express yourself ❣️don’t listen to nobody rice, you look amazing

luv: i love their energy so much omg

Kenneth Watts: LOVED IT!! THE BEST OF EVERYTHING TO YOU BOTH!! KEEP UP THE LEARNING & LOVING❣❣

melanin queen: I so appreciate him when he said " I don't want my people to think I'm offending them " nooo baby that's your wife you guys are suppose to learn each other and grow together.show her and experience her as well! Especially for those future babies! You guys are soulmates man y'all got this. You are doing what people are too illiterate or scared to do.

Tamia Aaliyah: She slayyyyed those braids, & I genuinely enjoyed this video parents reactions and all. I loved thiiiis omg y’all are too freakin cute

BBi 2.0: Now THIS is appreciation

M P: I just discovered your channel. Your hair looks awesome! I'm Korean and married to a Black man. I sometimes braid my hair in box braids and have only gotten complements. There's nothing wrong in appreciating another's cultural style so long as you do it respectfully and give credit to the culture. You guys are such a cute couple! Question, how did you take the extensions out? Did you have to cut your own hair?

Jumpman0926: “I’m not gonna go all the way back we don’t want you to look like you straight out of prison”

Gina Ciccone: finally getting the recognition you guys deserve. so happy for you too!

Maygun Greer: I honestly have to say this is completely awesome and I think it looked amazing on you and your sister dose a truly awesome job and it shouldn’t matter what people think if you enjoy it own it both of you honestly I think you should try micro braids or thinner box braids if you want a crazy hair experience take two!!! And y’all are awesome and keep learning and loving everything everyday

Merari Franco: After watching this vid, I just had to subscribe. Y’all are such a vibe together . Wishing y’all the best! ❤️

Sharette Hasan: Love it!! Many blessings

Zoya Ayana: This is appreciation imo. She went to a black salon, promoted the business (all of you taking this as an opportunity to rag on how Black people respond to this though, go book an appointment, give Slice's sister her coin and come back in the comments promoting her business instead - simple solution lmao). The issue comes from when she's on the road and people can't tell if she gave the Black community credit and get skeptical - and tbh, nothing is wrong with that initial reaction when it (appropriation) happens every 5 seconds....

Xantiny: Y'all can't lie, she look good in those braids.

Jami Copeland: IT LOOKS SO GOOD!!!

VELMA WILSON: You guys are SO cute together! Slice and Dice on the haters.✌

Midnight: The style and everything is so pretty! I'm glad she's enjoying the style

Christal Cabrera: I love how you guys embrace each others culture rice is good in the hood now.

Kwailan Whiteman: she is gonna have black kids in some way, this is a good experience for her, so she can connect her children to their deserved heritage. i love it

Pennywise Lives: i know they're engaged and everything but why does he make so many racially charged asian jokes. like asian people are still a marginalized group in America, and she seems kinda hurt at them too. saying ching chong or widescreen eyes isn't funny. idk just something i noticed in this video.

Margarita Maria Church: Beautiful Amazing cuplé❤️. Well done. God Bless the loving Families

Khadija: This is one of the few cases of cultural appreciation I have seen and honestly it is heartwarming. She did her research and got it done by an black artist. I hope u rock more african hairstyles in the future

Miyu hime: Why people have to hate everything? She looks amazing!

Felicity Jhnae: It’s not offensive, I think it’s great people explore other cultures; why not

golden nxtae: She looks very beautiful with them i dont see why yall have to make big deal out of everything‍♀️‍♀️

Samriddhi Soperna: Do people really expect someone to not partake in their partner's culture at all? Just came from another video which had an interracial couple (black guy and white girl) and the comments were bashing the girl for wearing box braids.

Moana Moka: Beautiful, you rock it nicely,Rice.

VC Jones: She looks really cute with the braids. I do wonder how long she actually kept them in. :-)

Emily Arriaga: Beautiful to see 2 cultures meld together.

fizz: one thing slice n rice are gonna do is appreciate each other’s culture ‼️

Yagua Z: The old South east Asian Buddhas rocked their hair like that.

Melony Garcia: I think Glory looks great! I am Mexican and my aunt knows how to braid my hair, but I feel like nowadays I can't....but I absolutely love then and feel confident.

Octavia Armstrong: Im not offended, I'm glad that your exposing her to our culture. Good job bro

henessy3022: I LOVE THIS... she has the perfect look and style to pull this look off... I have dreads and I expected a lot of pushback, but I actually get more compliments than anything... She's naturally beautiful... His sister hooked that up CLEAN

Myriah Conlin: That wipe right into the eye! Love it, seriously gorgeous.

Gina Jean: Y’all seriously crack me up

Shantall Salamanca: I love her hair !!! She looks beautiful I’ve always wanted to get my hair braided like this too but also do not want to offend anyone. I love this video
