So i'm about to do my own braids for the first time. I'Ve never done it believe it or not, and so i'm going to be filming it because you know it could come out good and you guys might want to tutorial so might as well film it someone jump right into it, because i kind of really want to Just get out the way my hair is dry i'ma blow dry. It, though, to make it easier. So, first, i'm gon na spray, my hair, with my heat, protected by the way ignore the freaking eczema. I have my arm. I know i'll get asked. I think it's on this arm too. No, it's me on this one yeah. I haven't anyways, ignore that all right, i'm gon na build you my hair. First, get that out the way i'm going to focus on parting, this front part and then have my boyfriend help me with the back because yeah i don't trust myself to do that part. I want to become a jumbo one, because i've never had jumbo box braids and two. I want this to go as fast as possible, so yeah i make them pretty big, and this is just temporary. It'S only for the weekend. So i'm about to spend hella time on this. Absolutely not so. This could be one section using edge control to help me with my parting, it's kind of tricky, but you know it's my first time so i'm being easy on myself, not really like. I wanted to be perfect, but it's okay, it's okay, i'll, never forget the first time i did my own toolbox. I spent how many hours i spent on that. Are there parts supposed to line up like? Are they supposed to line up with each other? Are they are they i'm gon na google this because yeah um how to part? Oh it pops up. That means i'm not the only person who's googled it well. Why can't i just park i'ma just part it bro cause, i just yeah. I want it to look neat. Oh okay, anyways. I remember the first time i did my own faux locs. I remember like it took me, like literally a good 14 hours, and i was finally done and then, by the time i finished, i had essentially kind of like perfected the technique. So my perfectionist ass was like okay, like i have to take them all out and just do it over and now do it with my new perfect technique and that's what i did and i spent a good like two days doing all that it was worth it. Though, honestly i really enjoyed doing my own hair, i mean this could just be one this only a big one, though. How would this lay yeah, i'm gon na just i'm gon na just do it like that. I thought that's the most simple way. If i try to do another way, i thought they'll kind of get confused and overwhelmed, and i don't want that for myself being this. My first time doing this, i'm not trying to get turned off so yeah i'll. Do it like that? Okay, cool get in here, um all right, so i did the front half and i think i did an okay job and so now i'm gon na have my boyfriend come and do the back. My hair is cut so uneven. That'S glad i cut it, but i'm gon na have him do the back yeah i'm gon na go back, i'm playing doing all that. I see it. Okay, look like down the middle that feel like down the middle. That is not like down the middle at all. How'D that feel more down the middle okay. How about this one babe! You could see yeah put your head lopsided! No, it's not! Okay! Wait! Wait! Wait this right here through the middle, that's through the middle here, i'm gon na! Do it through the middle yeah and then you just perfect it, and some of this hair needs to be on this side, because just do it all right there we go yeah, it got it like when you i did it. Okay, wait! Yeah! I got a little curve to it. Okay, that's better! That'S better! My friend! That'S straight yeah! It'S straight the other one out over here. Yeah all right tie that one up straight: okay, straight straight: i'm gon na do like two more sections, because i don't want them that freaking small, i feel like. I need some more t-shirts like little like that. So i'll probably go do that and take care of that because yeah, i don't have any it's weird, because i have clothes, but i don't have clothes, she has clothes. She don't have a lot of clothes. She actually likes. Yeah. I get that yeah, like you got clothes, i'm the same way. You got clothes that you would wear to a vent, but clothes like you just like every day every day is really a difference. Straight: okay, hey don't mess it up. It'S just got straight, i'm not! And this lines up with the other section to go right across see. I trust you okay, next one, and then we have three more okay. The way you're holding this comb is me because it's yeah it's straight when you lift that part up yeah straight now, you were scratching my ears, od. That was trying to make sure that it was right. It goes grunting down here all right, child. Okay, you take a photo show me. I could do other smaller parts. I had streets, good job, all right cool. He does lace, first of all, you're annoying. So, on this section after two see, i could section it like behind my ear like that, but those big sections would have been harder for me. I'M gon na do my first braid and then i'll film this just so you guys can see me doing this. For the first time, but then um i'll film, more like as i go on when i get to the front part of my hair, so i'm be using edge control. I know people use jam, but jam is a little too oily for me, so it doesn't work for me, so i'm going to leave some of my hairs out there, so it doesn't feel tight because i make that mistake when i do my actual ponytails. So this this feels legit, i'm using this kiss edge control the edge fixer glued okay. I don't know why i'm getting nervous, so i have braiding hair i'll put the name of it down below. So i know i need to make sections i'm going to. I mean it's hard to explain why i'm doing what i technically don't know what i'm doing. I'M really just following my heart here: um because i mean it can't be as it can't be, that complicated and i've gotten my hair done before so i know what it feels like so comb that out so it's smooth section it in three. Maybe i should watch the video i don't know. I just feel like. I learn better when i can't teach myself so try get three even pieces and i'm gon na start the braid off and then go in and add a little piece and just add it in. Like it just got, ta make sure it's like securely in. There then add another little piece. Why am i going to like i'm in pain? I'M just focused, i'm so scared. I mean it's attached. I have to tuck my real hair, though okay, okay, i'm not doing the best job at tucking, i'm not a professional, though it does not help that i got a paper cut last night, so this hair is like not feeling good against my skin, like it's hurting. My finger actually okay, so i got the hair attached to it, but i need to redo this and tuck my real hair better, but i think i have a hang of this okay. Well, i don't know all right hold on okay, my first braids finally done and honestly i didn't do a bad job. If my tongue's red is a red, i mean pizza, but i didn't do that bad of a job like it does look. Tapered, yes, but like i didn't and it feels pretty secure, i'm not gon na pull it too hard. I didn't do a bad job. Okay! Let me let me i honestly speaking while doing this one i thought do i want to do my hair like do i want to stick to this, because this is a lot, but i'm optimistic now, so i'm about to go. Do like three or four to really see. Okay. Can i do this and then we'll continue the video all right guys, so i really got in my zone and they're coming so cute, like honestly after that, first one. I practice one on this side too, to see. Okay, am i like just my right side or my left side or my right side? It'S a little different, but i mean still came out cute but after that first one i was like. Maybe i was ahead of myself thinking. I could do this, but they're coming out so cute and the more i do, the better they look like this is such i'm doing such a good job for my first time. So i'm going to do these top two and i want to show you guys what i'm doing. I wanted to develop a little technique. First, before i really get into my gig, so let me show you guys so i take. Let me get a little some scissors. So i take out my section by the way, like i'm i'm getting kind of annoyed, because my hair keeps sticking now i think my ends are frizzy, but i've been managing so first i take some of my edge control and i just put it just you know. Just at the base, no reason really just to make it look neater, so i guess that is my reason. So i put at the base, not it not looking straight hold on, i mean it looks fine, it's not perfect. Okay, i'm a little long, so the hair. I'Ve kind of mastered, sectioning them out perfectly so they're the same size. I was nervous about that like making sure they're all the same size, but i think they're they all look pretty identical. So this is about how much i've been taking out of the bundle about. Let me make sure about this much, maybe maybe like one piece less actually yeah yeah a little less so like i'm gon na, take this out yeah and that's about right. So then i separate little sections. The very first section, though, is the smallest one, because that's the first i'm gon na put in - and i just put on my lap, and so i just take out little sections like about this size. Only the first one's, like the smallest one, and i just lay them on my lap. I'Ve noticed for each braid it's about like five or six little pieces, seven between six, seven, actually yeah one more little section so that was about that was a little more than that, but let me see i could put this back so one two, three, four: five. Six, seven so seven sections, so i have been i'll comb it out a little bit to make it smooth. And then i will section my real hair as if i'm about to start a braid right so section to three and then i act like i'm about to start braiding right and immediately, i add a small piece. I wish i was a professional, so i could explain this even better, but i hope it makes sense so in between these two pieces be mindful. I don't know this like the right way to do it. This is the way i've i got. Ta start over. It'S emotion, it's emotion. This is the way i've been teaching myself how to do it. I know i posted like a little sneak peek on my story and a couple people were like: oh i'm, braiding under and braid over. To be honest, i feel like obviously you look good so rather you're supposed to braid under over. I, i don't think it matters. I think it just depends on what you like, like there's different ways to braid there's different ways to do everything. Everyone'S gon na have their method and a lot of people think that their one method is the right way to do something. But if another method works better for you, i just don't see why. Why not do it that way if it works for you, you know what i'm saying like this is working for me. I like how it looks make sure i do that right. So i'm going to do it this way, because i mean it works for me. I quickly start the braid over because i felt like the basic use, a little more edge control to look a little more neater. But, as i was saying um, i wish i had better wording for it. So this video was more helpful, but i'm making this video not even so much as a tutorial. Just i don't know taking you guys along with me, as i try a new style, i thought it'd be fun, but i will look up some videos that could be helpful. Like i said earlier, i kind of didn't want to watch anything just because i feel like if i watch one person's technique, it will make me feel like that's the only way to do it when, like i said, there's different ways to do everything, so i didn't Want to like feel that pressure to like completely copy what i saw i just wanted to like take what i already knew about braids and just try to do it myself, because i just thought it'll be easier, a little less pressure. I guess you could say, although i do think it would have helped my watch tutorial for sure i i'd have um more knowledge of how to tuck my hair, but i've just been using edge control towards those parts, and that seems to be helping so so yeah. I think i've got that figured out, but i'm pretty sure next time around now that i have like the general emotion and overall confidence to do this. I watch a video next time just to really perfect it. I just wanted to test to see if i could do it on my own, but, like i was saying i wish i um by the way when i put like foam stuff later, i'm pretty sure the shininess from edge control will be gone, but it's okay. I don't really mind it. I could get rid of that, but, like i was saying i wish i had like um just better words on how to describe what i'm doing so. This video was more beneficial and more like a tutorial which got bright because the sun, but i'm learning this is my first time doing this, believe it or not. I'Ve only ever done like braided ponytails or like i've like cornrowed, my hair, but i've never done something like this honestly. I really do not know i'm cape. I was capable of this. It'S crazy. I wish i would have done this sooner. So i remember my aunt used to braid her hair like this, when we were younger and there would be times when that girl would not show up, and i wish i would have known how to do it myself, because i would have done it also. I'M happy to do this by myself, because originally i wanted bigger braids. I thought they would be bigger based on the sections, but it's based on how much hair you add, which i guess is kind of like logical, but i really like this size. I don't think i've ever had the size of braid before well. I have but i had like tiny braids going back in the front and then it was this size, but i've never had them like as like box braids before, and i think this size really frames. My face: well, i usually get them like smaller, like micro, but this is. This is a cuter. So if i ever get my hair done again i'll definitely get them this size. I'M pretty sure, i'm like positive, a thousand percent that if i, if i would have went to my braider, she would have been done already, because i've been doing this for about two hours now and she brings hella fast. It'Ll probably take like two and a half hours to do this, so she would have been done, but it's okay. She was booked anyways and i kind of just want to just test to see. If i can do it on my own, save some money or whatnot, and also just i don't know practice, but i think they're coming out really nice hey. Let'S do this front one. I have to make sure this one's really neat, because it's in the front ouch. Okay, so putting on some more edge control, i'm gon na brush dash control on this one just to really make sure she's neat because she's front and center now i'm going to section off my hair again honestly, like my hands, do kind of hurt, i don't see How people like braid, like multiple people's heads a day like i'm too big of a weenie, my hands, already hurt? I mean i would say like on a scale one, two, ten, it's like a six, but i still feel it in my hands for sure. But i um when people are used to birding on a daily basis, i'm pretty sure, there's ways that they um they like know how to braid to where it's still very tight and secure, but they're not putting so much pressure on their hands. That'S just my assumption. I even had brayer once that would only use the hair she provided because i guess whatever type of texture she was using was easy on her hand. So i'm pretty sure people who do this like every single day. They find ways to like make it work. But it's definitely very tedious and yeah. I understand why braiders charge what they charge because absolutely like this is not. This is not um easy. So if i was doing braids onto people, i would i would charge a lot too. I mean when i got really really good. I understand oh, that one's coming out cute. I understand why braiders have their prices. I mean i was understood, though not so much like the work part i mean, i i get it now that i'm doing it myself. It'S just the time it's really time-consuming. You got to get paid for your time, but now that i'm like doing it myself, my okay like this is it takes time and strains your hands. I get it okay, so now i'm just adding pieces to it and to help tuck my hair, as you can see, i'm doing like this little twisty motion, i'm not sure how effective that is. It seems like it's working though, so i'm just doing it as i practice i'll get better tucking. My hair, and you guys see the little twist motion i just did. I think that helps. Oh, this makes me wonder like how do braiders tuck people's hair like when they want braids certain color, but their hair is like a completely different color. Now that's like talent, because how do you even do that as far as like a little pieces that still stick out that aren't perfect um everyone does things different some people i mean i am going to dip the hair in boiling water because i know that makes It look all sealed and whatnot a part of me. It'S like i really like the braids on this side. I wish i knew or i wish i was better at braiding i mean i kind of taught myself how to cornrow my hair well a couple weeks ago. So i've gotten better at that i mean you just have to do things repetitively to get better at it, but like i uh it would look so cute if i braided it, and it was just to the side, because i really like this side look but it'll Look cute on the other side too, but yeah i'm doing a pretty good job. For my first time doing this and i'm really proud of myself and with each braid i get more excited. So i'm like one i'm almost done and two it looks really good. So i have like two more sections on this side: um and then we'll do this side and then i'll be done. So my all right guys, i'm fine, don't my braids so now foam time wait ellis, does cookies spray them. No, she puts foam. Then sprays right. Yeah she puts foam and then sprays the braids, so i'm gon na do that, and this took me five hours, guys that guy dipped them too. You know people redeem me tell me. Oh, don't forget to dip like girl, i got my hair braided. I know the process that that's the number one thing i am gon na do is dip them down. You can't get braids to not dip them wow. These actually look so neat, not me, being a braider, not you being a braider, not you being a braider like what okay can we call grandma? Now they still aren't ready. Don'T worry, the phone will dry. Okay, guys, i'm almost done. Let'S lay the edges. This is the issues unless let's go to phoenix and bother alexis what let's go to phoenix and bought our alexis hey. I was gon na tell you tommy's coming uh september 24th. So if you even want to come, oh liz wait: are we still going to disney world? Although i meant to tell you we canceled because they changed they, they moved our flight and you know like everything's going up. Huh alyssa was invited to disney world. Oh, my god she didn't know. I definitely i absolutely told her. Oh, i didn't invite her, but i told her. No one talked about disney world even might go to sleep too early. No, we don't. You have to go to sleep at 8 o'clock, you're parked up close to 12. wow. These look so neat. So now i'm going to spray my sheen spray is that what cookie uses yeah wow? Let'S look at the back yeah. The back looks okay for me, not being this being able to see it like i like it. If i want to, i could put them up. Wait for my phone to dry wow, my buddy buddy hold up. Wait. I see a flaw. Oh that's! My edges. I'M gon na say girl. I know i took my hair wow guys i snapped, i'm gon na go dip. It really quick and then say bye to you guys all right guys, so i'm putting on some blush in one now. Let me get rid of this oil. So i could post my boomerang on instagram to show you guys i already just buy my braids like i really did a good job. Like no cap. You can't even discredit me bro, so i um i did some water. I know the the ends would turn curly, but i'm not mad at that they're only bad. I just hate when i have to dip my braids, or this is my first time doing it. So i hate i just hate different braids in general, because then wetness begin on your back and it's annoying as hell, but it's cool just got my towel wow! Okay, where am i boomerang ready? Do i need lip liner time to post a boomerang for the girls and show them my okay hold on yeah babe, i'm taking a boomerang in two minutes. I got ta finish off my video wow arnold reader wow. I'M really happy with how this came out. arnellarmon: I told you guys I’d be posting today sorry I’m late lol

Johnnese P: I died when he said “did you grease your scalp” and “your head is lopsided”

franscesca lewars: Arnell is so easy to watch nothing feels forced on her channel content always feels soothing and genuine .... Just always able to enjoy her presence

Esther Baby: I can’t believe you did these yourself… and it was your FIRST time you slayed this!!!!

Lonee Bazemore: I literally had my hubby help me take down my sew in 2 days ago. I’ve taught him well over the past 17 year of marriage. I didn’t even have to give instructions. I just called him for help and he did it in 15 minutes. Then took the braids down. Team work lol. I’m 37 and enjoy your videos. ♒️ gang gang

Brianna Alleyne: I love how he was concerned about your scalp is moisturized. I love that Arnell watches her own sister.

Justtaylorthings: Wow, your hair turned out so beautiful.

Alexis Jones: “But your head is lopsided” I HOLLERED!

Kristen Gwaltney: I loved that you were able to give yourself grace. Like reminding yourself that it was your first time and it's okay if they aren't perfect. A skill I'm trying to learn!

Courtney Nel: When she said “I’m really just following my heart here.” About doing her hair, I felt that.

zandre: For a non-braider, those are actually perfect. Your grip is really good. Great job

Talia Flynt: Is there anything Arnell can't do, LOVE EM

imightbe: I tried to do small knotless on myself for my first braiding attempt on my self and let’s just say that wasn’t the smartest decision because I made my sister spend all that time parting just to put it in a slick back after two failed braids and zero patience ‍♀️

Taylor Rose: They came out so cute❤️ Braiding your own hair can be difficult but it’s so worth it and you get to save money

Inka: For the WEEEEKEND?!!! Arnell!! Girl! Please tell me somebody else on here was shook when she said this

Barbie Doll: i just love how she tries things for her 1st time and makes it look like shes being doing it for years

Villa V.: “Did you grease ya scalp” like damn

Morgan Folston: They look so good. I cant even believe this was your first time doing it! a tip for tucking your hair you can put gel on the tips of your hair whenever you are about to braid the tips of your hair.( if that makes since) LOVE your videos girll.

Ronnie TV: OMG! You literally did the same thing I didI was so nervous..but I was also like “I’m a hairstylist, how hard could this be” lol it took me a few times on that first one because I kept making it to thick at the root…but I FINALLY GOT DOWN (PROUD MOMENT) I’m just glad I’m not alone in learning how to do these☺️

Frugal Michy: You did an amazing job. Just FYI when you part your hair, it’s best to use “the brick pattern” that way it looks fuller. I can’t braid my own hair for shit. I used to but stopped years ago so now I have to relearn it.

Here For the TEA!: They look really really good!!!! You did a good job. Just a tip next time you part your hair use the “brick method” just so the hair looks more full in the back :)

Kiana L: Trust in Arnell to give us that boost in confidence to do it on our own

Kendra G: Your braids look so good! You did great!

Demeah Thomas: watching this helped me knotless braid my hair for the first time omg!

NH: Good job mama! This inspires me. I’ve been doing cornrows since I was 8 years old. I’ve been doing single braids not too long after that I’m completely self taught. While I don’t braid often on others anymore (quit hair for corporate) I still do my own hair but I still haven’t gotten knotless and feed in braids down pact.
